어느 해 였던가 숭산스님이 시카고 지역 미국인 불자들을 상대로 시카고 불타사에서 법문을 하실때 였었습니다. 관음 젠 스쿨 메일링 리스트에 올라있는 사람들에게 미리 연락하면 미국인 불자들이 참석하게 되는데... 법문을 하시는 숭산스님은 제일 위쪽 단상에 앉으셨고 바로 밑에 무량스님이 앉아 계셨습니다.숭산스님이 법문을 하시는 중에 .'모기'란 영어 단어가 금방 생각나지 않아 무량스님에게 물으니 무량스님이 즉시 MOSQUITO 라고 금방 알려 드렸던 기억이 납니다. 혹시 무량스님 가까이 계시면서 제 글을 읽으신 분이 계시면 무량스님깨 엣날 추억을 한번 여쭈어 보십시요. 숭산스님은 시카고에 오실때마다 뵈었지만 무량스님은 그 때가 처음이고 마지막이었습니다. 물론 캘리포니아에서 절을 지으신 소식은 들었고 초창기에 자그맣게나 몇번 시주한 적도 있습니다.. 스님 성불하십시요.

I greatly admire Sunim’s incredible hard work building Korean Temple in the desert. Rare gentle soul of the purest hearted Sunim from Western country. All my thoughts and prayer be with you Sunim. Wish your good health and being enlightened. 성불하십시오.

마운틴 스피릿 절을 혼자 힘으로 지으셨는데 굉장히 고되고 힘 드셨을것입니다. 굉장히 마르셨네요. 스님 뵙고자 마운틴 스피릿 태고사에 갔었는데 하와이에 있는 절로 가셨다고 해서 뵙지 못해서 참 서운했었습니다. 스님 건강하십시요.

그의 말은 평범하지만 그의 행적은 비범하다. 그의 맑고 투명하고 깨끗하고 신실한 삶이야말로 진정한 정화를 준다. 그가 설혹 환속하여 세속의 사랑을 얻었다고 할지라도 이 역시 그의 진지한 성찰과 진정한 마음에서 비롯된 것이라고 믿음을 주는 분이다.

What is the colour Blue ? Blue, red etc are not real, it’s just called what we can see in our physical eyes. It’s only a conception which made by men.
