Have somewhat been following the redo on this sofa. You are a Master Craftsman at what you do. That sofa is a piece of art in itself. It is gorgeous and that fabric is so elegant with those muted colors and design. I have never seen upholstery fabric that thick. I have King Hickory Double Camelback sofa and love seat with sloped arms from the 1980"s. I refuse to get rid of it. Well made, sturdy, fits our sizes. Past time for a new upholstery job. Wish I could have you do it. Worth every penny to have it done correctly. Not sure I want to take it on, but just might try the Queen Anne chair that goes with it.
Do people like this even exist anymore? My sofa is less than a year old and the cushion under the arm has worn away. The sofa still looks amazing, so I don't need to reupholster the entire thing. I've been watching videos to see if I could figure out how to fix it..and I found this. It's nice to see some custom work. I watched every minute of this video. I remember a time when men were craftsman. I'm sure there are still men who can make things like this..not any of the ones I know that I asked how to fix my sofa arm though. Nice work sir!

I've been in the industry for almost 40yrs learning from the best my mom and dad back when i was 18yrs old at some point they pass away and I open my own upholstery business in honor of them at the age of 23yrs old then hardwork pays off i got married and had 4 beautiful childrens with the help of my wife my 3 children finish their college degree and the youngest still in school god gave me the best job of the world i know it's kind a messy to work on an upholstery but it also an art for us upholsteror. I don't know enough about compressors to give recommendations. You see in my videos I have a 40 year old Duo-Fast stapler that I prefer using but staples have been sometimes hard to find. I resorted to using the BEA which has a larger staple than I prefer but they pull out much easier (without snapping in two) when adjustments are needed. Pneumatic staplers are a must, especially for your tiny hands. Thanks for tuning in.

The cutting tool is used in the heating and air conditioning trade for notching sheet metal in duct work. My son gave the tool to me when he changed his line of work. I have no idea where he purchased it but I would assume one can be found at stores that sell tools for the construction trades.

The "notchers" are actually a tool for cutting sheet metal in furnace and air-conditioning duct work. My son gave them to me when he got out of the trade. Very handy in a number of upholstery applications.
The (very worn) brown gun is a Duo-fast I purchased over 35 years ago. It shoots the "old style" 3300 series staple. I don't know any of the specs. Last time I tried to get "O" rings from Duo-fast they told me the gun was obsolete. I'm guessing there were some new no-fire safety features that fell into play... This gun also works fine at a much higher PSI. It has served me well.
Hi there, can you tell me if you were to put arm panels on a chair covered with a finer weave (like a solid faux wool) would you still use finishing nails? Previously it was upholstered with panel nails… im having a hard time finding any (I’m in Canada) and a lot of places are out of stock
I'm not sure what they're called. "Christmas tree fasteners" ? (no reflection of Xmas) Plastic caps with stems lined with thin "branches"/flaps that slide in but grab coming out. You'll need to drill holes in the frame. Used a great deal in automotive applications. Good luck. "Buck"

For the "cardboard" you doubled up in the arms, If I was going to do a search for that what would I call it?
The face panels were cut from a waterproof panel board I purchase from an automotive upholstery supply company. They come in black or natural color.
At 1min 11secs, I can see a cream coloured fabric on the seating part. What is this material called?
The fabric in question is a light-weight denim commonly referred to as "deck cloth".
