    In this video we show you how to upholster a tub chair or bucket seat. We show you how to make a template of the tub chair to plan our where the seams are going to go. With a chair with such a curved back, you can't just use one piece of fabric for the back so you will need to sew in seams - which we show you how to plan, template and cut on to your new fabric.

      why do you protect the weds with hessian? would other types of fabric work?

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      AH hi there! I use hessian as it’s strong and stops the foam from collapsing through the webs. But you could use other fabrics.

    So how do I cut new foam for this shape? Mine is a bit different, it has wooden accents for the front of the arm rests that connects to a strip just below the seat section (believe it's from either the 70s or 80s with the color of the terry/velvet it's upholstered with) I really don't want to leave the old stuff on since I have allergies and the dust in it isn't good for me since I can't clean it out. Should I use the old sections to trace directly on the new or onto cardboard or drafting paper to make a template for the new foam? Thank you! Really appreciate this because I've been dying to fix this chair of mine for a year now but felt intimidated by the shape

      Hi Helen - thank you so much for your kind comment and for watching! Yes I definitely would do a tutorial if I get a piece in to reupholster. I have previously made a video reupholstering a Parker Knoll but it was one of their more simpler style chairs.

    These tutorials are the best - thanks Neil - I've learnt so much! Currently trying to reupholster a similarly shaped chair, but I'm redoing the inside back foam, as it was full of hay. Is this a job for 1" soft white foam? It's got zigzag springs/hessian under that. And would you cut the foam to match the seams on the fabric, or does it not matter too much? Thanks for any help!

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Katie! Thank you so much for watching and for your support, it means a lot! I usually use 1” white when it’s going to have cushions on the the inside back but if it’s an upholstered back, which yours sounds like it is, I’d probably go 2” white but that’s my preference. Yes cut the foam where the seams are going to go if you can’t get away without cutting the foam. Hope this helps 😊👍🏻

    Thanks for the awesome videos! I had a question about what kind of fabric that's used over the hessian on the back of this chair, before putting on the exterior fabric? thanks in advance! Keep the great tutorials coming for us DIYers across the pond!

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Renee! Sorry for the delay in responding. I’m slightly confused about your question as I didn’t use hessian on this particular chair 🤔 do you mean the lining fabric on the outside back? If so, that fabric was just a lining fabric that was already on the chair but you can use any fabric for this if the chair doesn’t have it already. I tend to use leftover fabric that I won’t be using elsewhere for mine. I hope that’s what you meant - if not let me know 😊 thank you for watching my videos from over the pond - it’s really appreciated!!

    Hi! Great job! Tell me, what is the name of the black material that you use to cover the seat? And on the frame under the upper curved plywood slat of the backrest, a narrow curved plywood or wooden slat is lined along the contour for attaching a metal tape with teeth?

    • @faceliftinteriors
      @faceliftinteriors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! Thank you for watching! The black fabric is called black platform lining fabric. I’m not sure what the second part of your question was? 🤔

    • @user-sd8rf7xb3g
      @user-sd8rf7xb3g 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@faceliftinteriors Thanks for the answer! Unfortunately, my English is not very good.))) Therefore, the second part of the question will sound like this: to which base is the Ply Grip attached from behind: from plywood or wood? Is it possible to give any link to the sale on the Internet: "The black fabric is called black platform lining fabric" - I want to find such a fabric. No problem, if my questions again cause difficulties, I still thank you for the answer.
