The ceiling light, although looks fancy, gets in the way when looking for scratches/swirls/marring
I know some with monthly passes that go through twice a day at times. crazy.
Single point light source like a COB light is best for the camera and showing these imperfections. Same reason we use an inspection light vs a shop light to see swirls imperfections. Multiple lights will spread out over the panel making it look more even hiding the imperfections.
Thank you for including DIY Detail Gold Standard Polish in your comparison. For future reference, on a 5 inch pad one spray is all you need, 2 makes the polish residue harder to remove, and actually reduces the cut slightly.
I love how you explain exactly what people do to their beautiful cars by going through automatic car washes!! I believe most normal people don’t even realize what they’re doing to their paint they just see it as being clean and shiny as they go through that sandpaper booth!!
Not everyone is as fanatical as car enthusiasts. To them, it is just a mode of transportation. The more money they have, the more luxurious and exclusive the car will be. Deep pockets, yes. The knowledge to take care of that big ticket purchase, no. That is why Apex Detailing is in business. 👍🏻👍🏻

I had a friend mentioned for fun compare the SDS sheets of 3D One and DIY Gold Standard. Hint. The ingredients are the exactly the same. I was surprised. Word for word on every page.
@@wescat2 the ingredients might be the same, however the formulation may vary which would change the results of the products.
I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of compounds have ingredient overlap, proportions being the secret sauce. I'm happy to see DIY do well though, since the convenience of the spray counts for a lot with me.

Beautiful test and all the polishes did well and finished down. I use DIY as my go to because it is so versatile and it finishes down impressively. I did use the Koch Chemie today because I am trying to finish up the bottle. I keep my polisher on 31/2 too when working on black paint. Thank you for the video.

Thanks for ALL your great tips and free professional advice. As a service tech in the low voltage world, I get how valuable these little tid bits of hard gained experience are. Amazing how just ONE little avoided mistake makes you feel when you KNOW there was no way you would have just guessed and got it right.
I still reach for the 3D One most of the time. My second go to is Gold Standard especially with their wool pad. Probably gonna give Oberk Sole a shot soon. Great video Brian

I can't believe you have actually recommended automatic car washes for your car once in a while, I love my car and I will never put it through a car wash,
I currently use Sole so I am glad that you have it featured here! Really like how you kept the areas consistent with pad/passes for testing. For future videos, if you can also add in an IPA wipe that would be awesome.

I do like Diy GS polish for a final polish with a rupes white pad after something heavier like 3D ACA 500 with the DIY detail purple wool foam cutting pad on a 15mm DA.. but for a quick one step my go to is Oberk Sole with the DIY detail yellow pad.. strange.... yep... but a phenomenal combination 😁👌🤯
That's why I go to the touchless wash. I'd go with the gold standard.

Very frustrating trying to avoid damage living in the northeast..it's not just a paint issue but a undercarriage issue..there's so much salt on the road you would think their made of French fries...touchless car wash hardly does anything.in fact when I did it car looked worse...I usually just go to self serve and do a good rinse .especially underneath.
I do too at times...pump in 3 dollars worth of quarters and rinse like crazy.
Nice I had the opportunity to use sole on a one step it came out pretty sweet.
Great video. I’ve been using the gold standard polish combined with their pads. I was using 3D one before. ( also very good). Love the spray feature of the gold standard.
It works and leaves plenty of clear for the next time.
Thanks for the review, I’m definitely staying away from tunnel washes, my new 2023 Black Kia has been in about 5 tunnel washes since July 2023 when I got it. So swirl marks are at a minimum. I’ve discovered ceramic coating and it works, I’ll add a few more layers of coverage so the touch less wash will help keep the winter weather off my car.
typically the only fresh water used in a tunnel wash is the rinse, the rest is recycled - another great video!

Great comparison! I live in Canada, due to our climate there is no other option In the winter, but im lucky enough to have a touchless wash near me wich still beats my coating but better than swirls i guess
I am living in Ontario, what I do is I will take my car to coin-op car wash and only use the RINSE setting, wash off all the dirt and salt as much as possible, then go home to finish the job with either DIY rinseless wash or P&S Absolute. I would say my car is cleaner and shine than 95% of cars out there!

I’d rather not wash it than to get scratches. A quick power wash is my go to in the winter.
Great video Brian, always learning from you. I cringe when i see people lined up at those car washes with spinning brushes. They think it is "safe" but to each their own, i care about my paint, lol. I think Oberk Sole is slightly better then DIY but it is so close

I have a friend that buy's the monthly pass at a local car wash probably goes 6 x;s a month in his late model Mercedes, I cringe when he posts a picture :)

These options are less oily to wipe off. As polishes evolve....some get left behind.
I have learned to never doubt Yvan LaCroix, it does not pay . Too close to call between GS and Sole. They are all great polishes, and another pass or two were needed anyway.

Having personally used 4 out of the 5 products, Gold Standard is the best. Its consistency across all paint types, versatility with different pads, and useability (efficiency) really sets it apart. Also knowing it does not contain heavy hydrocarbon solvents, it will not mask or swell the surface like others, giving a more prepared surface, ready to receive any coating or protection. Almost makes the panel wipe step unnecessary (but you always should).
Oberk Sole I think looks the best

For years here in Europe we love Nasiol products, and specially their yellow wool.lamps pad.
Now i see Nasiol is available in US market. Please...try their wool pad and you will remember me.!!!!
( I am not sure if you love their foam.pads, they are unique in their performance and durability,but they came only on 6inch version)
Their compounds are very high quality, we also us them A LOT but they need experienced users to find how they work, maybe with your experience have many things to say.

A little easier on the finish...but the harsh chemicals used are a concern.
Yvan from DIY Detail took his ceramic coated car through 60 odd car washes and it was still beading
I always like your videos, I learn something every time. On the polisher you had a blue pad but above the blue pad was a red pad. Was this the backing plate or an interface pad? If it was an interface pad what was the reason? Also where can you get the pad? Thank you

we only do what is in the customers interest.....or budget.
I know you can't always test all the compunds but what's you impression of the turtle wax one and done? Would you still recommend it, I've seen your videos on that from couple years back.

I guess I'm just not much of an Auto detailer. I drive my cars (don't collect them)... and after 5-15 years of driving a car.... the paint is no longer brand new / perfect.... it happens. I COULD choose to simply have my car completely repainted if it was really bothering me. But it honestly doesn't.
I don't understand why touchless [automated] car washes are so hard to find in the US? Canadian here...they are fairly common, at least in the big cities (which is really the only place there's any population here). I went on a road trip through probably 10+ US states last year and finding a touchless wash is like a needle in a haystack, even in major cities. I found one or two here and there but it was tough. Asking people/places about them was making me look like I was from Mars or something 🤣 I had to do a coin-op wand wash followed with waterless wash products for most washes I did, since there was no way I was going through an automated wash with brushes/cloths!
I would say the DIY did the best. Just curious Brian would you stay with the same pad and polish to remove the deeper scratches or switch to a different pad and more aggressive product?
The pad does most of the heavy lifting. If I needed more cut, I would reach for the next step up, the 50/50 pad.
Bought a brand new car and started hand washing it to make sure I kept the paint as nice as possible since I was starting from new. Let my gf drive my car after 4 months of ownership and she took it in to a car wash. After seeing the damage done lets just say she didnt recieve the reaction she thought she would 😂
The convenience stands........ However, the high alkali/enzyme cleaners combined with the filtered water that contains residual dirt and grit and then them thar brushes...................... Like plastic Brillo Pads..................

The thing is though, even if one doesn't go to the auto wash and washes his or her car on its own, even if done carefully and properly, scratches like that will still occur in time.
Also, for daily drivers, if you don't inflict scratches on your clear coat, debris and random things flying and bouncing around the road and in between vehicles will scratch it in time as well.
For a daily driver, there is no such thing as perfect paint nor should you strive for it. Because very likely, after you do your first contact wash, you'll get a bunch of micro scratches.
However....this damage is not just topical and easy to remove....it can run deep. meaning it can only be corrected once before the clear is too thin to manipulate again.
As a detailer I always tell people you are better to leave the car dirty than to go though a car wash. With all that protection remember the car is really clean under all that dirt and the paint is protected so don’t worry.

yup, and if you just cant stand looking at it anymore, find a touchless car wash. they dont clean great, but they dont damage the paint.
What about touchless only automatic carwashes.
Is that an Orbital or DA polisher? If it is a DA it looks like a very short throw. I see small DA action when you turn off the polisher. I think I answered my own question, maybe the 8mm version. Just curious. I prefer an orbital but you have to be carful on the edges. I also prefer fine wool pads for this type of job. Maybe that's just me. Old School kind of guy.
I try not to use the automatic car wash here in the pocono’s. I know it bad for the paint but I have to to get all the salt off the cars. I only do it maybe once a month and then I go threw and bc3 them all over again
Cool comparison. I like the Sole. Did you use the blue Lake Country pad because the clearcoat was on the hard side?

Medium clear....but some of the marks ran deep.
Besides their cutting and finishing were they all easy to get off? Looked like you were working a little harder to get the Koch Chemie off.
KC dries out just a bit quicker than the rest.
The scratches are actually from a hand wash not an automatic one, also by the way most automatic car washes are safe for you car, yes even the soft touch ones
the question is how do you clean your car properly?
Just found your channel and love it so far. Quick question. When paint correcting and or polishing do you prefer dual action or the flex in this video?
I normally choose the rotary first off camera...then the 21mm Da.
Car wash are going to be used by most and key is finding a facility that maintains their equipment and cleans it often.
The wraps and brushes should have a continuous mist above them and should be pressure washed twice a day....but that does not happen in tunnel washes in my area.
Do you always one step polish using a DA or do you sometimes break out the rotary to polish on 3-4 speed? DIY preaches to polish using a rotary on slow (1) settings. Curious on your thoughts on that technique?
On hard, stubborn, I break out the rotary....absolutely.

German paint is typically on the harder side so a heavier cutting pad is normally required for that level of defects
After some time, you can have the pad chosen as the car pulls in the parking lot. But not always the case. Sometimes, the clear is outsourced and is a different hardness.
@@apexdetail85 The ones built in Germany are a different breed. The paint is better and so is fit and finish in my personal experience.
I was surprised by the lack of 3D One in this test. What's made you're once favorite fall off of the map here?
These are a bit less oily for wipeoff. Polishes keep evolving and some get left behind.
What polisher are you using?

No fillers...that is why I personally choose them.

There are absolutely no fillers in these...but you can.
does ceramic coating keep this from happening ?
Unfortunately...no. Coatings can still scratch under those conditions. Even PPF takes quite a bit of abuse.

Equal to a firm handshake....if that makes sense.
Same cut and finish poweer....much less oiliness to wipe off.
If you have a dark-colored car, don't go through the auto wash car washes. Hand wash or hire a pro

Whats up with the beehive lighting?tunnel washes are death.
The lighting is good for PPF application and coatings.....sucks for paint correction. We only put them up in two bays.
