Music theory is so cool because for the most part it functions retroactively. Most good songwriters dont need to use theory when they right, theory just explains why the music sounds good the way it was written
Always like music and personal freestyling but never understood the beat counts and just did my own thing. To have a coach like you around when i was in a rap group would have been precious. Thank you for teaching evn old heads like myself about timing in different ways to make a flow!!
I’ve always been curious about Logics rhythm. Specifically the background beat for the song Hommicide. It’s been rattling my brain for ages, and I’ve just come across your page where you study this type of thing. Algorithms work in strange ways. Solid work, brother!

New millennium cyanide christ is a song you have to check out for weird phrasing of vocals. Meshuggahs chaosphere album is a goldmine for it and even though it's definitely not for everyone it's worth checking out
When talking about time signatures There is no twelfth note, the subdivision is an 8th note so youre rapping 7/8 over 4/4. Not 7/12 (only exists as an irrational time signature) its a really cool polyrhythm though made all the more difficult by starting on the offbeat of the 2. Very impressive :)
As a jazz instrumentalist who started rapping around age 9 I have been using time on time flows like this for awhile. I teach music, so I have taught this to my students (Elementary, Middle School), but I never came across someone speaking my langusge! 👑

I swear this man's rap skills was over people's heads and going under appreiated, and instead of dumbing it down, he decided he would elevate the whole community
As a drummer, this is why i believe a drummer is not a time keeper but time keeping is for every musician. Rap itself is Rhythm and Poetry but many dont study the rhythm This is why Eminem is the best rapper. He merges his accurate time with broken up syllables and creates the most beautiful rhymes.
The evolution of rap is seriously like no other. Started in ran down building in poor communities with people talking over beats without much thought, and now it’s a fucking science. People saying that use to say this shit isn’t music I hope recognize what it truly is. The most evolved state of language ever really

This is cool...for academic purposes, but as a 35 yr vet in rapping, and about 17 as a producer..I've never seen anybody utilize these structures intentionally. These time signatures pop up in moments, or sometimes for entire verses, but never deliberately, that I know of. As many rappers as now currently exist, I'm sure somebody is writing in this fashion, and I've heard Rakim talk about purposely writing in different rhyme structures, but not different cadences or time signatures. When it does occur, it's generally totally organic, with the rapper not even aware of what they are musically accomplishing, or having the musical vocabulary to explain such things. I say this only so folks don't get the idea that rappers are generally thinking in these terms when writing rhymes, because they almost NEVER are, with all due admiration and respect for the O/P...
Yeah but imagine a new subgenre of musically gifted rappers that do odd stuff like this Would be cool. Like 70s prog but in rap form. The king crimson equivalent of hiphop
This guy has a good formula compared to other TH-cam shorts/tiltok artists trynna plug their music. Breaking down the rhythmic pattern is truly interesting and engaging
Can you do videos analyzing certain rappers flows? Like Big Boi I would love to see how his is mapped out like this. Forgive me if you have already though
I love the off tempos in 4/4 counts it’s a lot easier to count the what ppl may think hell even slow counts are hard to stay consistent then fast ones, you’ll get caught up in the 7 count triplets just lose your place in the music and now your a whole step behind.
Something i've noticed is that a lot of these more "Odd" or "Niche" flows you post would be really annoying if it stayed consistent through the whole song, but is really nice when done for a few bars. At least, to me.
