Excellent, Loved the technique of using the tweezers to encourage the ball to sit while in the gale of the hot air when you were on the apu re-ball 1:07:33 and 1:08:09. I always learn something. 👍. The garbage dump and repair community thanks you for persistence. Really enjoyed it thanks for sharing.
Very well done. I had my fair share of struggles with reballing. I found each reballing I have done there is always significant to little variations. Have to adjust as you go along. Practice makes perfect. I have had failures and sucesss. Perhaps consider to get a holder for the hotair handle or build one. I could feel your pain holding the hotair handle over that chip for so long. I really appreciate the hardwork and thankyou for sharing.
A very good difficult job on this PS4.....and a very difficult job and with a lot of patience in editing this very long video....but I can say that it was one of the few long videos that I watched with great pleasure until the end.. .from the 1st to the last second...thanks a lot for the excellent video.
When I think that at the beginning of the video, I thought reballing the ram IC ship was already too difficult for me... DAMN! You're too strong, congrats on the repair! I have a ps4 someone sold me with "no video" issue, and I found out that it was actually a BLOD with a missing RAM IC on the motherboard. Definitely got scammed... So, I really hope I won't have to reball the APU when putting a new RAM ship!
I’ve liked and subscribed to your channel. I have device repair shop. I do playstation repair. But I’ve watched your an hour long video just to see what i did everyday. Love it. Keep it going. Keep pumping more video!
NICELY DONE! ball join while reballing is a must have lesson. I use preheat plate to do small chip like southbridge but seems your hot air way is slightly more controllable, plus burning finger though. What's the BIG nozzle model you use when top heating the APU?
Good job and very well explained. Just a tips, I use kaptor or aluminum tape on the apu and memories so they don't receive direct heat, and don't leave the hot air gun on the apu for too long just like you left it, I circle it around the apu and pass over it a few times. Thanks for the video.
When I saw the length of this video I thought: Is this the 24 Hours of Le Mans for console repairmen? OK ... I won't be on the podium (that's your place and please get on the center step) but I made it all the way to the finish line. All the best.
I would have liked to see how long you stress tested this. BGA reballs can last for 2 hours or 2 days. It needs to be stress tested or it’s technically not entirely fixed. Still you did some great work on this console. Good job overall!
Would making a note of the diode figures of the Chips pads "Whilst Re-balling" be any use to verify, Lets say some other suspect chip from another Unit, ergo perhaps saving time and or even saving a good chip from being discarded.. APU 👁👍
Diode reading notes are always helpful. It can be time consuming. I will make notes on some items but I usually just try to keep a working PCB around to make comparisons to.
Recently discovered your channel and have been binge watching. Love your laid back, methodical approach to repairs. Question for yah. In this video, I noticed you have the same hot air station as me. Where did you find the BGA nozzles for it?? I've scoured AliExpress but haven't seen anything that is specifically for the Quick 861dw. Thanks for sharing your content!
If you are referring to the large BGA nozzle, I bought that from eBay and modified it. The listing said it was for an 850 which is another Chinese hot air station I believe. It had a screw clamp type of mount. I found that if I cut off the clamp, what remained would fit snug into the barrel of my Quick 861DW. Here is the listing: www.ebay.com/itm/383174960680
You can take a look at some of the small Adonstar microscopes with the built in display. That's what I started with. They are somewhat limited as to what you can get under them as the stand gets in the way.
Hello, thanks for the video. Where can I buy the header you used for the Quick 861dw? Can you post the link of the product? What is your disassembly temperature and airflow while disassembling and installing?
If I remember correctly, this console had physical damage. It was slightly crushed. A RAM IC was physically damaged and the APU solder balls were damaged.
Well done but for content it's one thing the ficability on repair cost with the time spend I can never see it making business sense if it does please explain
It's definitely not worth the time to repair from a financial stand point. I am a hobbyist. I get enjoyment from repairing these consoles. I also learn a lot by repairing them. It's not a business, it's a hobby. I enjoy the challenge.
Another wonderful video, i have a PS4 CUH-1116A, the motherboard is dead, no beeps, no lights, i have an identical working board, i connected the 5v connector from the ps4 power supply and it beeps and attempts to turn on, i cross-checked resistance and voltages on the dead board and they all seem to be same as the working board but it won't beep or attempt to turn on, please can you suggest what i should check next? the cmos cell was dead so i replaced that too
Great. I have everything except the heater. Do you think it would be possible to unsolder the processor without preheating? And one more thing - where did you place the temperature sensor on the board or under it? But I guess it doesn't matter.
