at 26:10 - 26:19 thank you. I am learning from you at all with my 48 years. I started reparing ps4 three years ago like a hobby. 3 are gone. the rest 40+ are working due to your help. Thank you from Germany !
Thank you so much Andrew, my ps4 fat gave the brod today. i watched your video, took apart the power supply. cleaned all the contacts with IPA and used a hair dryer on all the solders. PS4 came back to life afterwards. You are the champ!
Excellent video. The side by side comparison of symptoms is brilliant since they behave fairly similarly. That part of your video told me I had a PS issue so I kept watching to see how to pull it out and troubleshoot it. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the transformer and found it in the exact same state as the one in your video... slightly raised from the board, both wires pulled off the pins. I'm an electronics tech so I'll be taking these parts to work tomorrow to use our soldering bench to try to make the same repair you did. I'll report back with the results.
those PSU's can be dangerous, the caps hold enough energy to seriously burn or blow a chunk off the tip of your finger, ask me how i know lmao. i had the pattern of the pins burned into my finger for a couple weeks, and that was AFTER i (thought) i discharged them fully with a screw driver, cant imagine how bad it would have been at full power...
When the visual inspection turned out good and there's nothing bad-looking, the first thing to do is to check the fuse for continuity. Easy to replace and quite often the reason why you have a completely dead system. Oh, and on the Slim it's also probably a good choice to check if the power button board is actually connected. I had a Slim where it wasn't. And I was the first one to open it up. System acts completely dead (I didn't check if I could start it with a controller), I opened it up, took the PSU apart, checked everything I could think of with my multimeter, swapped over another PSU, still nothing. Was annoyed that I had to take it apart (the PS4 slim has way too many screws), turned it around and saw that somehow that stupid ribbon cable from the power button board had come lose. Plugged it back in, PS4 works perfectly.
Guys, if you cleaned your PS4 and have a problem getting the PS4 to turn on or it turns on then off, you may have put the power supply back in wrong. Make sure the two long metal pieces are straight and not bent to where it reaches the power brick. Not placing it back in correctly also may make it hard to put the other plastic back on and difficult to put the screws back in the PS4. Went through this myself. Hopes that's the case and you too can save your money.
Had one come in once, where one of those prongs was bent against the other and they both were in the same hole in psu. All I needed to do was bend it back straight and the machine came alive.
Tysm!! when that happened to me it scared the living crap out of me bc the power supply failed once before but it doesn't seem to be the case and now my ps4 is working fine.
Champion, i had the same issue on a ADP-240CR but it was the marginally smaller transformer next to the 2 big main caps. my guess the console took a tumble? as it actually broke the transformer in half on the bottom on one side of the 3 poles that attach to the board. 1 single core wire broke away from one of the poles, shorted out and took out the Q5 mosfet and the fuse together. replaced those and all working sweet again.
Anthony Boccardo i have the same transformer with half disconbected. I wanted to repair but not sure which wires go where. Any good images i can maybe compare or do you have a part source?
Hello, excellent video. I am trying to repair the ADP-240CR source for ps4, I don't know the differences between the one you repair in the video and the one I am trying to repair. It would have the schematic of the ADP-240CR. They are very similar but I need the schematic. In my case, the source does not turn on or bridge pins 1 and 3 of the connector. Thank you
Mine is no doubt a sibling of the gal on the right. I have a 1215a, and have sent it in twice. This will be the third. I keep getting the same system back, even after explaing that i build computers for a living, and know that the repair is not your everyday hard drive or software swap. What has me completely stumped is that mine will 80% of the time repeat the blue flick to dead, and depending on the amount of time from last unsuccessful attempt to full boot the system will operate longer. Overheating somewhere initially was the suspect, but was ruled out when the blue flick evolved and can shutdown the system within 2 minutes even after days of sitting disconnected. But the damn thing decided to totally mindf..K me yesterday.I got the blue flick, dead, but got a full boot after 4 to 5 back to back replug attempts! Now the strange part is that its still running now! Matter of fact, im using it to post this message. Im totally stumped, and starting to think my system has become aware!!!! Just joking, what would you do with this strain of the blue flick?
Great videos.last night I picked up a faulty ps4 that has been dropped. It powers up for about 5 seconds, no fan but shuts off with a click noise. I'm going to take a look inside the psu later but a y thoughts for now?
Hi Andrew, Thanks so much for your videos! I'm blown away by the way you can fix hardware issues as good as in factories. I currently have a BLOD issue which first seems to be a motherboard issue (2sc blue light, hard drive noise, fan start working, then I can "switch off" the console (i know it thanks to the beep) and switch it on again). However, I tested the power supply with a multimeter and the main output (where the two long spikes plug), deliver 2V instead of 12V. Did you get the same voltage during your tests? Many thanks again!
No it should show 12v but only very briefly on a 2 second BLOD - if it powers off after a couple of seconds depending on your multimeter it may not refresh quickly enough to show the short spike which could explain why you're only seeing 2v. By all means though try a different PSU if you have one to hand but I think yours will be an APU issue. Cheers.
Mine was more like on the right. Now it's completely done.No light & no sound at all.Went to the game shop earlier dude was saying it could be the motherboard & quoted $150 to repair.Ridiculous.Without even bother dismantling & checking.Any idea what's wrong with my ps4?
Hi, mate! First of all, you are brilliant! Definitely you know how to repair. I'm from Serbia and I really need some advice from you. What can this be: I need to press couple of times power button to turn my ps4 on. When it's turned on, the blue light blinks (BLOD), no image on tv. What can this be? Is this the PSU or something else? Thank you!
Awesome video Paul. I thought my problem was BLOD but it's not. We had a electrical household power surge the TV went and the PS4. I thought it was the power supply and bought one on Amazon a ADP-240CR 4 pin. Replaced the old with the new no light a slight beep and nothing after. So I'm not sure what else it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
When are you going to get a remote microphone my friend ?? I am Fascinated by your videos as I am learning how to repair game machines, but to hear you is real tough.
Hi great video, I'm going to subscribe. My Ps4 clicks twice as well with 2 of the LEDs lit of the board. I took out the power supply and the heat shield is discolored as if the power supply got very hot at some point. It also smells like it had been hot. So I'll by a new one, hope I don't waist my cash!
Good day Andrew Paul :) I know what you said in the beginning of the video, but i just wanted to ask anyway > My ps4 has that clicking sound and then it switches off, Should i replace the power supply? Thanks *)
Hey Andrew! Thanks for that video. It helped me get top where I'm now : stuck on another issue. I just changed a 2.7ohms resistor that was dead, but something else seems to be too... Do you have the tech manual, by any chance?
+Andrew Paul any idea? a friend of mine told me those power supplies work with 110v and 220v? Ever heard of that? Is it 110v in the uk? (i can't recall)
Hi Andrew, Your video is excellent! Thank you very much for this. My PS4 is behaving like the one on right but it's completely my from a series of wired behaviour. First it didn't reboot after updates, but I could turn it on and off manually. Then it didn't turn on at all but if unplug the main and wait 30 seconds it did and now it's behaving like the one on the right. I tried to give it a little shake and few bumps it worked for a bit and then nothing. This let me think something mechanical was faulty I.e some wire that when off or something. I hope Ned the psu but from a visual inspection all seems fine. What are your thought? How can I properly test the PSU. I have some electronics experience so I know my way around multimeters and soldering iron. Can it be the DNP015 ic in this case too? Many thanks
Hello Andrew Paul, I am from Argentina and I have a problem with a PS4 ADP-240AR source where I turn on the console, it is raising the system for a few seconds, it automatically turns off by clicking on the source. With my multimeter check the arrival of 220v, 5v. The capacitors, the smallest gives 300v and the largest 307v, the fuse has continuity, the resistors too. However I do not have 12v, will it be because of the DNP012A chip? Thank you for your videos and training us, I await your response and can help you in whatever you need.
i really can not imagine how this could happen, nice tut, i was just about to ask regarding the soldering iron, but got my answer. but i need the tip of the screw driver, can you get me a link, thanx
+Raed “3absiso” Abbasi Ah! It's a Security Torx (T9) bit to remove those screws. A kit like this one should do nicely: www.amazon.co.uk/Ifixit-26-Bit-Driver-Kit/dp/B00876T3CA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1444465254&sr=8-6&keywords=t9+security+torx The screwdriver itself is a Bosch IXO IV 3.6v Lith-ion screwdriver and it's a super little piece of kit. That can be found (a lot cheaper than I bought it for a few years back!) here: www.tooled-up.com/product/bosch-ixo-iv-3.6v-cordless-screwdriver-with-integral-lithium-ion-battery/194643/?Referrer=googleproductlisting&gclid=CjwKEAjw7uKwBRDUlJvRo-z6rgMSJACbmSBhA3L_IC39jXt3yOGjTZ38utYJah-rUPsOapvWf1gDfRoCSnzw_wcB A nice little set of Security Torx bits for this driver (including the T9 you'll require) can be found here: www.amazon.co.uk/50mmx2-5mm-Shank-Magnetic-Security-Screwdriver/dp/B00W18SF6U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1444465254&sr=8-5&keywords=t9+security+torx Hope these help :)
+Andrew Paul thanx, i have the Makita screw driver, i just need the pits, let us see how i can bring them back here :) i do not think Amazon can ship here
Hi Andrew great video. I have followed your steps and one of my psu is broken. the other one works and what i have noticed is when apply weight on the console upside down it works but as soon as released the weight console switches off... does it mean reballing of apu or something different i need to look at?Thanks
+Maciej Pytlik It depends where you're having to push it but if it's towards the centre on the left hand side as you have it upside down then yes most likely a reball would be required. Cheers.
What's caused the PS failure at the first place? Did the user do something wrong that caused it? Or is this an existing problem with the power supply! My son's PS4 just 2 weeks (brand new), had the same problem (BLOD). So disappointed!!!!!
+Daniel Graves (DTG8825) Hi mate - it's a Jovy isolder 40 and it is truly fantastic. I got it from here: bgareworkstation.co.uk/jovy-isolder-40?search=isolder I had to get the shovel tip from the states here: advancedreworks.com/solder-iron-tips-jovy-isolder-40-jv-tp5.html Also, many thanks for the feedback! :-)
woow that was great..Have also got aprob with my power supply and i think this was caused by burgs my ps4 does not turn on and no lights at all. have tried watching videos on youtube but it seems my prob is different coz i got no light at all.. I guess am gonna try to open it and see whether i can spot any prob in the power supply.
+Khali Gamer Seems like I am fucked then :/ The repair guy will tell me tomorrow if it can be repaired or not. I hope its just some minor problem that can be fixed. I don't even understand the problem with it. It worked fine...i unplugged it from power after playing....and after 4 days it doesn't turn on at all!! It's frustrating as hell!
I've had PS4 and Ps4 Slims come in lately that are completely dead. APU reflow, new PSU or anything else I have tried has worked. Wondering what you're thoughts are on this problem? Have you seen it? Fixed it? Know what causes it? Cheers
thank You ! ihave my PS4 dont run at all , I m testing the power supply module and find 12v output is not present, also find this transformer You worked seems overheated. tell me something, the four thick pins of my transformer all have continuity, and the three of the other side have continuity only the 1st and 3rd, but not the center, is this normal or need to take out this transformer to test it? also ask you how much voltaje should be present at this transformer?
Andrew Paul In my case It is not completely dead, it continues to beep and sometimes the blue light comes out .. In a nutshell it is exactly the same as the left side ps4 in the video.
@@AndrewPaul hello brother can you help me please my ps4 just beeps once and won't start also there's no blue light eject button beeps 3 time what's wrong with it
Sometimes my PS4 behaves like the one on the left, but other times I am able to power on normally. All menu functions/internet browsing/downloads work at this point. However, when loading games, the ps4 display immediately turns off. The PS4 is still powered on with a white light, just no display. I am thinking this is also a PSU issue, as the increased power demand to the graphics card crashes it. Thoughts?
I have the same power supply. Ps4 starts normal, but if i turn it off and try to start again, it shows the blue light, cklicks and goes off. After that i cant start the ps4 until i unplug the power cable, wait a time and put it back in. After that the ps4 starts normal. Do you have an idea? Psu looks good, no faulty places on first look
My ps4 has the same sympton, but it's not a transformer. Can it be the DNP015 IC? There was a roach right there! I've removed and tested the zener diodes and they're ok... I'm pretty sure is the PSU.
Hi Andrew, my ps4 for a couple of months now has been turning off after an hours use or so. Been advised by sony that its a psu issue, as my socket on the back of my console is damaged. The psu also gets very hot whilst im using it, so ive opened it up to have a look to see whats going on but i have no clue lol! Im going to get a new one online, just wondered if you had any advice? Also, do you fix consoles for a fee? Thanks!
+hollsterround I'd just get a new one ordered mate for what they cost. I offer a limited number of repair slots per month via eBay for UK/EU based consoles for mail-in. Cheers.
My PS4 slim was off, just a beep when trying to connect, no video, no cooler spinning, no going into safe mode, I did not accept disks. Nothing worked. So I put the motherboard of ps4 in the heated oven at 200 degrees for 15 minutes, and now it responds, accepts and ejects the disk, synchronizes the control via bluetooth but does not give video and blue light pulsates. I have read in some places that may have relation with the PSU ... Have you ever picked up a case where the console pulsates blue, but does not give video and does not enter safe mode?
Hello! My ps4 has the same issue like the right ps4 in your video were when I turn it on, blue light comes on for a split second, heard two clicks then shuts off so I knew it was a power supply issue and bought a new power supply but I was wondering why my ps4 still does the two clicks and shuts off after replacing it with the new one? Can it be just the new power supply that I bought is also defective or maybe something's wrong with the motherboard?
In my case, the ps4 does not turn on, I tested and there is 5v, when I bridge the 5v and the standby does not turn on the 12v and it does not activate the relay, where do you recommend me to start checking?
God damn dude great video. Followed you along with a model cuh 1215a. Gave it a look and saw that a bug had caused a short between a wire and a Zener diode labeled ZD102. Pretty much where I stopped since I'm not tech savvy enough to go about replacing those.
After I changed thermal pads and paste, my ps4 won't turn on. Also I sprayed power supply and big bunny dust came out. First I press power button beep no lights and nothing, then I press power button beep and blue light for sec. Fan won't start up so I guess it might be power supply!
Hi Andrew, I have a ps4 CUH-1001a and turns on and off in a second. I did hear two clicks on the power supply unit ans turns off and no DC, power and eject button doesnt work and I hve to unplug it 2-3 times and works back again. What should it be?
I have a 1116A wich do the same as yours, in my case is the psu, but i don't know whats the problem becouse the psu looks ok, but if i test that psu in another ps4 does the same.
Just curious, since transformer lives upside down and just hangs off of pins which are friction fit only, why didn't you apply epoxy to pins to hold them in place, or put any adhesive or tape under transformer to hold it to pcb, and thus keep this problem from re-occuring?
+john browne Hi there, it isn't - it is linked to those pins via two leads soldered onto them. It was these leads giving way which enabled the transformer to become dislodged when it was impacted. It is a tight fit otherwise so isn't really required. Cheers.
+Andrew Paul The only thing holding the transformer to the pcb is the pins, which are press/friction fit only. An impact caused the pins to slide out of transformer, which pulled solderer wires loose. A dab of adhesive or double sided tape under the transformer would take some weight off the pins, and maintain a "factory" look if that is important.
hello andrew, thx for your videos. you can see that your doing it with love :D i got a question to you. i bought a ps4 with the excact same behavior. so i opend the psu and it was the same error as in the video. i fixed that to cables and the ps4 run again. obviously it was a drop damage, because the mechanic of the drive were also messed up. so i begann to fix the drive. i could start the ps4 5 times to test the drive and suddenly the transformer error came again. the ps4 shutdown with in 0,5 secound and you here the double click. i opend the transformer, but the previouse faulty part is still in place. could it be, that the part that i fixed is completly dead now?
+Kaan T First thing mate is to double-check the connections on your faulty tranformer. I'd remove the part again and ensure you have good connectivity across the joints with a multimeter. If this repair fixed your issue and it's gone quickly again then likelihood is that the issue will be connected. Good luck!
I have a ps4 model number cuh-1215a with a broken psu, I haven't been able to find a replacement model number adp-200er psu for my ps4, but from this video I found that I could possibly repair the psu in my console. I have found a burned spot on the board and was wondering if you could help me figure out how to fix it if it can be fixed.
+Khali Gamer never got it fixed, I am just keeping an eye out for a replacement power supply. I have no idea how to identify the individual components on the board, so I don't know where to start looking for ways to fix the one I have.
ooh i got no hope too. coz these models have no powersupplies out yet. Where is your ps4 made from? just asking. mine is made in china and i only used it for 1month. i think these models have got that apowersupply problems in common.
i have the console you are repairing now but i think it stays on longer like the one on the left (at beginning of video) I need to cheek again to be sure but i do think i will need help locating the actual fault, also do you where those gloves so you dont short circuit the motherboard. Thank you for advise.
+JC Gamer The gloves are to protect from flux residues and other solder-related chemicals etc - it's all rather nasty stuff and you don't want it on your skin if you can avoid it. :-)
+Andrew Paul thank you i tested my ps4 and it does what the left one in your video does. so how do i fix it i dont have tools to take thing's off the motherboard like the APU. If there are other ways to fix it without taking part's off it and putting it back on any advice would be great. Thanks
yes this is the one idk why I couldn't find it before but thanks I still can't get my ps4 to work i have come to an understanding that it needs a reball
You got really good videos. My problem is similar but it isn't the psu. When I turn the ps4 on the blue light shines one time, the fan starts and then the psu sounds like the psu in the video (klick) and the ps4 go off. When I now push the power button the ps4 shut really off. Do you now what the problem could be?
Good evening I have the same problem as your left ps4, it turns on and then turns off 2 seconds after. I opened it but I am not the transformer wires that are desoldered. So do you think that it also comes from the trasformer too? The ADP-240CR power supply model
Andrew, I have a ps4 that I've been wanting to fix for about 6 months now but I don't wanna mess nothing up. The unit doesn't power on at all and I'm thinking it's the ceramic fuse needs to be replaced. I have pictures if you need to see the unit. thanks in advance
+Shannette Marshall Hi Shannette - can I see these pictures please? If you upload them to imgur.com/ and post the URLs for the images into a reply here I'll be able to take a look. Do you know what happened to the system which resulted in the no power scenario? Many thanks.
+Shannette Marshall Hi Shannette, Indeed it looks as though that fuse is missing - do you know how this might have happened as they're pretty hardy things so if it's blown out then we'd need to get to the bottom as to why that was. Where are you based? Cheers, Andy.
+Andrew Paul Hi Andy thanks for the reply. He took the fuse out because he used a meter ( I don't know what they're called ) to check the circuits and the connection to the fuse wasn't giving out any signs of life
Great vid, I have a similar problem. BLoD - PS4 turns on but no input to TV, light pulses constantly and fan/disk drive both work. Won't boot into safe mode it just goes off after I've held the power button for about 10 seconds. I've tried all the easy things like re seating the HDD and leaving it off and unplugged for a few days. Any ideas? Is it worth me trying to take the PSU apart and having a look around like in this vid or would you say it's likely to be something different? Thanks.
It's very likely to be different - it's a general error condition and can be caused by literally anything. Sometimes it's APU related but anything else and it's really not worth chasing for what they're worth these days. See here: th-cam.com/video/0T2-iCBhkuQ/w-d-xo.html
Andrew Paul - just an update. I replaced the PSU no luck. Went on to take it all apart and I can't see anything wrong with the motherboard in terms of scorching etc. Checked the CR2032 battery and that's fine as well. Had the PS4 about 2 weeks (second hand) so I am pretty annoyed that it's now useless. Question though: if I buy a brand new one now will I be able to reuse the hard drive in the new PS4 if the models are the same? My worry would be is if the hard drive is causing the problem could it brick the new PS4? Thanks very much.
My console beeps 3 times and has the blod every time I turn it on and it will stay with pulsing blod until I hold the power for 8 secs or so. Any ideas on what can be causing this?
Don't worry about them - it's under warranty for 12 months anyway so any issues belong to Sony :) Keep it well ventilated and free of dust and you'll be fine.
@@AndrewPaul Hey paul, im kinda im a sticky situation. I've added washers and it hasn't done anything. My problem is that while dissembling the console I accidentally pulled the connector attached to the motherboard. I soldered it back on and then that's when it gave me the blod. It will turn on them instantly turn right back off. Could it be because of that power connector that wasn't soldered correctly or the apu. Ive added 3 washers on each side with no results.
i have a PS4 that first Runned, but if i Put in my HDD then i had only Blackscreen now the Console has Half Minute COnstand Blue light, not Blinking and Shuts down
please can you help me I applied the noise fix to my PS4 but while doing so I snapped off the connection which is brown black and white please show me a way to fix this
Hello sir I need help.... I have ps4 pro power supply....not power on, I find out two components are defective, 1. STD3N62K3 N MOSFET 2. One of SMD Zener diode (zener diode location number on PCB (ZD39) Problem is I can not find any value of this zener diode, if you know something about that value of zener diode or if you recommend something equal please help, Appreciated. Thank you very much Cheers 🍻 from Denmark 🇩🇰
Hey my ps4 turns on for a sec and turns off I don’t hear a click and I can’t turn it back on until I unplug it and plug it back up then I can power it back up but then turns back off
Hi Andrew, I have a ps4 which is doing the exact same thing. I have tried a known good psu on it and the problem still exists? The ps4 blue light flashes for just a second and clicks off, then none of the buttons will respond until you remove and reinsert the power cable. Can you point me in the right direction of where to check next? Thanks in advance! :)
Sounds like you have a short somewhere on the motherboard. Visual inspection would be the first port of call so see if there's anything obviously amiss.
thanks for the reply, i have had a look at the board and cant see anything obvious.... I am fairly new to this but dont like to be defeated lol. I know you haven't got it in front of you but any idea where to start?
As you say without it being in front of me it's not really possible to say - just check you're getting the necessary voltages into the motherboard (12v, 5v) and that the fuses on the motherboard are all intact.
+Christopher Easler That's impossible to say I'm afraid - sometimes a reflow will last 12 months+ and other times it lasts hours. If done well they can be very reliable repairs but I always reball machines and never reflow them. Really it all depends on the condition of the board / chip and your usage environment etc. Cheers.
My PS4 will not connect to the tv and will keep blinking blue and if II apply pressure to where the power supply is located it will turn on and i'll be able to play games and run other apps but it will only be on for like an hour or 2 what is wrong with mine is that a power supply issue? Please help I do not want to waste money and it still doesn't work thanks!
hello Andrew Paul I get the the same as the one on the right but if I check voltage on ps4 power supply I get 12 volts with a slow drop to nothing could this be something else besides powers supply
+jesse hill hi Jesse, that's normal behaviour for a BLOD - if you can power cycle the machine without unplugging and plugging it back in then you've most probably got an APU fault.
Cesar Sosa Ah I see where you're going now - you're not after voltages you're after compatibility - the 240AR is a 5-pin PSU and is not compatible with the CUH-11xx consoles. The CR is a 4-pin PSU and is, so you'll need the ADP-240CR for your console. There is also an ADP-240ER for the CUH-12xx series consoles. Cheers.
at 26:10 - 26:19 thank you. I am learning from you at all with my 48 years. I started reparing ps4 three years ago like a hobby. 3 are gone. the rest 40+ are working due to your help. Thank you from Germany !

+Timothy Collier Hi mate - many thanks. I'm sure you'll fix it when you get it all reattached. Good luck! :-)
+Timothy Collier -- A year later, how'd it go, Timothy? Well, I hope!
those PSU's can be dangerous, the caps hold enough energy to seriously burn or blow a chunk off the tip of your finger, ask me how i know lmao. i had the pattern of the pins burned into my finger for a couple weeks, and that was AFTER i (thought) i discharged them fully with a screw driver, cant imagine how bad it would have been at full power...
You should leave it to the pros bro.
Good tip reminder! Alot of people think it's all fun and games working on these stuff and they don't want to pay.
Guys, if you cleaned your PS4 and have a problem getting the PS4 to turn on or it turns on then off, you may have put the power supply back in
wrong. Make sure the two long metal pieces are straight and not bent to where it reaches the power brick. Not placing it back in correctly also
may make it hard to put the other plastic back on and difficult to put the screws back in the PS4. Went through this myself. Hopes that's the
case and you too can save your money.
Right on thats exactly what I figured out on a power supply I just worked on!! Love repairs and getting stuff fixed 😁 you rock dude
Thanks. You helped me identify the problem. Replaced the power module and it works fine... Thanks a lot...
Sir call me 9789992828
That's what I'm about to do cause that's the only problem it could be
Champion, i had the same issue on a ADP-240CR but it was the marginally smaller transformer next to the 2 big main caps. my guess the console took a tumble? as it actually broke the transformer in half on the bottom on one side of the 3 poles that attach to the board.
Lol. Nearly a thousand channel views? I think you smashed that record. Keep up the good work.
Many thanks :-)
Hello, excellent video. I am trying to repair the ADP-240CR source for ps4, I don't know the differences between the one you repair in the video and the one I am trying to repair. It would have the schematic of the ADP-240CR. They are very similar but I need the schematic. In my case, the source does not turn on or bridge pins 1 and 3 of the connector. Thank you
you my sir are a beast, fair play too you, give up the good work.
had this issue a centipede climbed into the back of my ps4 into power supply....removed it cleaned ps4 and its working perfectly up to today :)
Very helpful. Now I know my PS4 has a PSU problem. Will try and replace it now. Thanks!
You're welcome.
hey did it worked for u? :)
Great videos.last night I picked up a faulty ps4 that has been dropped. It powers up for about 5 seconds, no fan but shuts off with a click noise. I'm going to take a look inside the psu later but a y thoughts for now?
Hi Andrew,
Thanks so much for your videos!
Cheers.
Nice one Andrew. It would be nice if they were all that direct.
Thank you!
Great episode. Could you tell me what the value of C24 and the one diagonally above it is?
Thanks sir, you help me identify my problem, you're the man!
Thanks
Cpu is dead
Very interesting .Thanks a lot .Happy Xmas
This was an excellent video mate. Very helpful
Glad you liked it
@@AndrewPaul Hey man sorry to ask but where do you think I could find ps4 controller batteries ??
Bro, excelente video. Can tour tel me the voltages of the transformator. I tino mine its broken and i can't find a replacement
I have a PS4 doing the thing on the left, weird part is that I've replaced the motherboard with a working one, and it's still the same issue.
This is a nice video. My Ps4 also have this problem. Where can I buy the Transformer? Can you give me a model name? Thank you!
You are doing great keep up with the video and good work
thanks a million! same thing happened to my ps4 yesterday! I know the problem! thanks!
+julien poux Hi mate, sadly not - they're tucked up in Sony / Delta's vaults ha ha! What's the machine now doing?
+Andrew Paul well... same thing, although the resistor seems to survive.
I'll upload a video to explain, i guess.
+Andrew Paul any idea?
a friend of mine told me those power supplies work with 110v and 220v?
Ever heard of that?
Is it 110v in the uk? (i can't recall)
Hi Andrew,
Your video is excellent!
Many thanks
Hi. Need some info please. A mosfet 24n60m2 is there an alternative to it and where would I find one and in what. Thank you. Stay safe
+Raed “3absiso” Abbasi hi mate, which screw driver is it you're needing?
+Andrew Paul the one u used to put back the PSU small screws, i can not find it anywhere
+Andrew Paul the one u used to put back the PSU small screws at 24:20 , i can not find it anywhere
+Raed “3absiso” Abbasi Ah! It's a Security Torx (T9) bit to remove those screws. A kit like this one should do nicely:
www.amazon.co.uk/Ifixit-26-Bit-Driver-Kit/dp/B00876T3CA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1444465254&sr=8-6&keywords=t9+security+torx
The screwdriver itself is a Bosch IXO IV 3.6v Lith-ion screwdriver and it's a super little piece of kit. That can be found (a lot cheaper than I bought it for a few years back!) here:
www.tooled-up.com/product/bosch-ixo-iv-3.6v-cordless-screwdriver-with-integral-lithium-ion-battery/194643/?Referrer=googleproductlisting&gclid=CjwKEAjw7uKwBRDUlJvRo-z6rgMSJACbmSBhA3L_IC39jXt3yOGjTZ38utYJah-rUPsOapvWf1gDfRoCSnzw_wcB
A nice little set of Security Torx bits for this driver (including the T9 you'll require) can be found here:
www.amazon.co.uk/50mmx2-5mm-Shank-Magnetic-Security-Screwdriver/dp/B00W18SF6U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1444465254&sr=8-5&keywords=t9+security+torx
Hope these help :)
+Andrew Paul thanx, i have the Makita screw driver, i just need the pits, let us see how i can bring them back here :) i do not think Amazon can ship here
Nicely done sir,I am learning big lessons from u,thank u for this video
Yep my ps4 is having psu issues. So easy to repair. Got china on the phone and got a brand new psu on the way for $17
Hi Andrew great video.
+Jenny Nguyen I think it was dropped which caused the transformer to jump. Still going strong this machine :)
always helpful, another great video
Your videos are a great help. Can you send me a link to where you bought that soldering iron? I need one like that. Thanks man.
+Daniel Graves (DTG8825) Hi mate - it's a Jovy isolder 40 and it is truly fantastic. I got it from here:
bgareworkstation.co.uk/jovy-isolder-40?search=isolder
I had to get the shovel tip from the states here:
advancedreworks.com/solder-iron-tips-jovy-isolder-40-jv-tp5.html
Also, many thanks for the feedback! :-)
Awesome! Thanks buddy. Keep the vids coming.
I’m from thailand thanks so much For VDO i like it
woow that was great..Have also got aprob with my power supply and i think this was caused by burgs my ps4 does not turn on and no lights at all. have tried watching videos on youtube but it seems my prob is different coz i got no light at all.. I guess am gonna try to open it and see whether i can spot any prob in the power supply.
i have the same problem. I have given it for repair. did you find a solution ? Did your ps4 start working again?
+Shikhar Mehta not really I was told there are no power supplies for my model yet.
+Shikhar Mehta the same thing happened to mine.. how old is it?
+Khali Gamer It was 3 months old. Bought it from overseas so warranty doesn't apply.
I've had PS4 and Ps4 Slims come in lately that are completely dead. APU reflow, new PSU or anything else I have tried has worked. Wondering what you're thoughts are on this problem?
Have you seen it? Fixed it? Know what causes it? Cheers
Thanks for sharing bro very well rounded video thanks
You are the best man
thank You ! ihave my PS4 dont run at all , I m testing the power supply module and find 12v output is not present, also find this transformer You worked seems overheated. tell me something, the four thick pins of my transformer all have continuity, and the three of the other side have continuity only the 1st and 3rd, but not the center, is this normal or need to take out this transformer to test it? also ask you how much voltaje should be present at this transformer?
My ps4 is 7 years old and had the same symptoms of the right ps4, and yes, a new psu fixed it
Great to hear!
Hi my friend, good video, Ps4 does exactly what you show on the left side .. That's power supply?
If it powers off and then acts completely dead until power is reapplied then it's 90% of the time a PSU-related issue.
Andrew Paul In my case It is not completely dead, it continues to beep and sometimes the blue light comes out .. In a nutshell it is exactly the same as the left side ps4 in the video.
That's likely to be an APU issue.
Andrew Paul reballing fixed this?
@@AndrewPaul hello brother can you help me please my ps4 just beeps once and won't start also there's no blue light eject button beeps 3 time what's wrong with it
the one you repaired is on the right?
Great video!!!
+freakpunker it's possible - the DNP015 is a watchdog IC for the entire supply so if this is stuffed then you may end up with issues.
Cheers.
Thanks so your video im modding visual and repair Ps3 and Ps4 maybe i cant looking photos my work and modification
My 1206 would turn on will check hard drive and shut off. I ran it on ATX supply and it was working. I have bad power supply right?
Very good man
God damn dude great video. Followed you along with a model cuh 1215a. Gave it a look and saw that a bug had caused a short between a wire and a Zener diode labeled ZD102. Pretty much where I stopped since I'm not tech savvy enough to go about replacing those.
Jordan Henderson and gabriel
After I changed thermal pads and paste, my ps4 won't turn on. Also I sprayed power supply and big bunny dust came out. First I press power button beep no lights and nothing, then I press power button beep and blue light for sec. Fan won't start up so I guess it might be power supply!
Know the value of the zener diode ZD32 component, thank you very much!
A dab of adhesive or double sided tape under the transformer would take some weight off the pins, and maintain a "factory" look if that is important.
hello andrew,
thx for your videos. you can see that your doing it with love :D
i got a question to you. i bought a ps4 with the excact same behavior. so i opend the psu and it was the same error as in the video. i fixed that to cables and the ps4 run again. obviously it was a drop damage, because the mechanic of the drive were also messed up. so i begann to fix the drive. i could start the ps4 5 times to test the drive and suddenly the transformer error came again. the ps4 shutdown with in 0,5 secound and you here the double click. i opend the transformer, but the previouse faulty part is still in place. could it be, that the part that i fixed is completly dead now?
+Kaan T First thing mate is to double-check the connections on your faulty tranformer. I'd remove the part again and ensure you have good connectivity across the joints with a multimeter. If this repair fixed your issue and it's gone quickly again then likelihood is that the issue will be connected. Good luck!
I have a ps4 model number cuh-1215a with a broken psu, I haven't been able to find a replacement model number adp-200er psu for my ps4, but from this video I found that I could possibly repair the psu in my console. I have found a burned spot on the board and was wondering if you could help me figure out how to fix it if it can be fixed.
here is a picture of the damaged spot.

@william have got the same model and the same problem. i would like to know whether u fixed it and how. please help
+William Hendrick Sure enough I have the same problem except the burn on my power supply is not as severe as yours.
i have the console you are repairing now but i think it stays on longer like the one on the left (at beginning of video) I need to cheek again to be sure but i do think i will need help locating the actual fault, also do you where those gloves so you dont short circuit the motherboard.
Can't you do a video for ADP-160CR? :)
Ps4 slim power supply got smoked while im playing but i opened it i dont see any burn marks or explode components?? Hope for ur reply thanks..
+HJHMusik 95% of the time an APU Reball will fix that.
Good evening I have the same problem as your left ps4, it turns on and then turns off 2 seconds after. I opened it but I am not the transformer wires that are desoldered. So do you think that it also comes from the trasformer too? The ADP-240CR power supply model
Any idea where I can get this specific part, mines busted needs replaced.
7:55 that moment
use your eyeballs :D
This is what mine is doing except mine makes three clicks instead of two. I wonder if it's the same thing
It's possible.
Andrew, I have a ps4 that I've been wanting to fix for about 6 months now but I don't wanna mess nothing up. The unit doesn't power on at all and I'm thinking it's the ceramic fuse needs to be replaced. I have pictures if you need to see the unit. thanks in advance
my son wanted to know. he just added on circles ( Google+ ).
+Shannette Marshall Hi Shannette - can I see these pictures please? If you upload them to imgur.com/ and post the URLs for the images into a reply here I'll be able to take a look. Do you know what happened to the system which resulted in the no power scenario? Many thanks.
+Andrew Paul Hi he just added some pictures of it and tagged your name. Check your Google+
+Shannette Marshall Hi Shannette,
Indeed it looks as though that fuse is missing - do you know how this might have happened as they're pretty hardy things so if it's blown out then we'd need to get to the bottom as to why that was.
Hey I'm getting ps4 next week, and I'm afraid of buying because of problems like these can you tell me a way to prevent ps4 problems?
Don't worry about them - it's under warranty for 12 months anyway so any issues belong to Sony :)
Keep it well ventilated and free of dust and you'll be fine.
+Andrew Paul I don't understand how stand gets in your ps4? and also where are the fans to keep ventilated?
+Srate stand is dust sorry lol
Has he made a video on repairing the one to the left?
Sure have:

@@AndrewPaul Hey paul, im kinda im a sticky situation. I've added washers and it hasn't done anything. My problem is that while dissembling the console I accidentally pulled the connector attached to the motherboard. I soldered it back on and then that's when it gave me the blod. It will turn on them instantly turn right back off. Could it be because of that power connector that wasn't soldered correctly or the apu. Ive added 3 washers on each side with no results.
i have a the same problem as the one on the left can you help me with it?
i have a PS4 that first Runned, but if i Put in my HDD then i had only Blackscreen now the Console has Half Minute COnstand Blue light, not Blinking and Shuts down

Is the power supply suppossed to constantly beep when turned off or in sleep mode still pluged
Definitely not!
please can you help me I applied the noise fix to my PS4 but while doing so I snapped off the connection which is brown black and white please show me a way to fix this
Hello sir
I need help....
I have ps4 pro power supply....not power on,

Appreciated.
Thank you very much

Hey my ps4 turns on for a sec and turns off I don’t hear a click and I can’t turn it back on until I unplug it and plug it back up then I can power it back up but then turns back off
My PS4 has the same problem on the left not the right about the power supply. How do I fix the left
PS4?
+J-Abaya APU reball only I'm afraid - that's going to need professional attention.
This is off subject but if I were to get a reflow on a ps4, how long would It normally last?
+Christopher Easler That's impossible to say I'm afraid - sometimes a reflow will last 12 months+ and other times it lasts hours. If done well they can be very reliable repairs but I always reball machines and never reflow them. Really it all depends on the condition of the board / chip and your usage environment etc. Cheers.
+Andrew Paul ahh OK. what about reballing?
My PS4 will not connect to the tv and will keep blinking blue and if II apply pressure to where the power supply is located it will turn on and i'll be able to play games and run other apps but it will only be on for like an hour or 2 what is wrong with mine is that a power supply issue? Please help I do not want to waste money and it still doesn't work thanks!
how did you learn how to do all this stuff?
Many years of self-teaching. Reading, watching videos and plain old getting hold of scrap boards and practising over and over.
Hi,
I need Block Diagram/Schematic Diagram for the power supply, any idea where I could find one?
+OMOLADE AFOLABI they'll be tightly locked away in Sony's vault - no schematics have leaked yet as far as I'm aware.
hello Andrew Paul I get the the same as the one on the right but if I check voltage on ps4 power supply I get 12 volts with a slow drop to nothing could this be something else besides powers supply
+jesse hill hi Jesse, that's normal behaviour for a BLOD - if you can power cycle the machine without unplugging and plugging it back in then you've most probably got an APU fault.
Aren't these consoles still under warranty? Why people bother reballing, repairing them?
+worroSfOretsevraH The Sony warranty is only valid for 12 months so the oldest units are now 12 months out of warranty (2 years old).
+Andrew Paul can the 240AR power supply work on 240V cuh-1115A ps4 console please reply
+Andrew Paul thanks and what about 240CR power supplies on CUH-1115A 240v
Cesar Sosa No it's not.
Cheers.
