I love these rise and fall stories of old stores and chains. If you wanted to do a straight history video, I would love to see one on Pizza Hut! They were the place to be in the 1980s and 1990s, and then they just lost a lot in popularity. I'm not sure why. Their pizza seems to be... different in the past decade or so.
The Circuit City in Columbus, IN was one of the last stores to close. Less than a year later the space reopened as a Best Buy which is still open today. So yes my local Circuit City space was transformed into a Best Buy store.
I worked there for a very short period in the early 2000s. They were pretty unfair to their employees. Nobody worked on commission, but they still tracked sales numbers and if you didn't produce, regardless of department or flow of customers, your hours were reduced. Best buy always undercut any sale we would make as well.
Circuit city did the same like Blockbusters. Had a chance to buy the competition and end up getting beat by that competitor. Netflix took Blockbusters out and Bestbuy took them out lol.
Netflix lost me as a customer when it got to the point that all of the DVD's I kept wanting to rent were just never available even though they never de-listed them. At one point I had over 100 in Que waiting to see if they'd ever get them. They kept pushing their streaming videos which I am not a fan of and never will be. Now Netflix has gotten so WOKE that I am glad I chose to get them out of my life! The strange part is I can find most of the DVD's I wanted to rent on eBay and other on-line sites for even less than what Netflix charged me to rent them! Just waiting for Netflix's demise,
Because our local Best Buy was more of a sick joke than a store I enjoyed shopping in. I liked Circuit City. I could generally always find what I wanted there and get help with any questions. Best Buy may have won the battle but to me the customers lost out completely! The last time I was in a Best Buy store I was looking at a DVD player. I could NOT get anyone to help me. It turns out that there was a young floor manager that was dressed a little skimpier than I would have thought proper for her title and all the males were crowding around her like dogs with a bitch (female dog) in heat! I finally walked out in disgust vowing to NEVER darken the doors of that place again, drove over to Sears and found the exact same DVD I was looking at and at a better price! Best Buy is far overrated for what it actually is.

This is where I got my DVD recorder and some of my CDs from them.
Nice, I always wanted to get a DVD recorder but never ended up getting one.
@@WhatstheStory123 It was exactly like a VCR except you made it on DVD. I loved it until my wife got mad at me and threw it into the trash.
That sounds cool I wouldn't mind having one of those now days even....oh no haha 🤣
📹📹
Go to 8:00 for Circuit City's extinction!
I loved the stores that had the headphones for you to hear the albums before you purchased them. Even played the games like Walmart used to let you.
I love your videos
Thank you I really appreciate it!!

I worked for Circuit City for a couple of years in NJ during the late 90’s.
Nice that's cool back in their peak years!
@@WhatstheStory123 it was so busy!
Many former Circuit city employees tell me the layoffs got rid of the best employees since they were high sellers and the most expensive.
Will you do Montgomery Ward next please 👍📲
It's definitely on the list!

Bought my Compaq there in 1995 with the infamous pentium 3 processor 😂
No more Circuit City, no more Payless,
no more GameStop.

You want me to enjoy? The whole world is going out of business. Where should I go to make a living again?
I’ll never forget getting my DS lite and Pokémon Pearl from Circuit City 🥹
