I think shelf life of peanut butter varies wildly, depending on factors like temperature, amount of ambient light, & the type/brand it is. I've eaten 3 year old peanut butter with no troubles, & also had 9 month old that smelled rancid. Good Luck Folks 🍀
Soaking and washing fresh greens and fruit in a vinegar water solution works well to remove wax and contaminants from "fresh" fruits and vegies from to grocery store and from your garden. There are instructions available for making your own vinegar available. I think it would be great if this channel would provide one of these. Just a suggestion.
I buy lentils for cheap and sprout them, or any other seeds that make edible sprouts. My chickens also like them. Just rice and beans will not be acceptable for too many meals. The digestive system needs veges.
@@readyornot316 actually, lentils are called "pulses". ( A type of bean or pea.) Some people can eat them, some not. I can't so my chickens get them! Sometimes, sprouting changes the carbohydrates into b vitamins and they become much more digestible.( Works with grains, too.)
Great video. Can I suggest fruit and veggie powders. They can be added to things for extra good ess and even in dried milk for a really nutritious milkshake. My buddies and I share a basic dehydrated and we buy a box or two of berries fruits etc dry and blend and mylar and then we share what we have made. It makes it so much more frugal. Or we take turns if we see a good deal x
I really want a hobby greenhouse but the better ones are so cost prohibitive. Budget options just rust sooner and need replacing or repairs. Here’s to building with a dream (wood and PVC).
You can buy a few cans of freeze dried fruit , veggies and meats. I have blueberries, strawberries , eggs and chicken breast. You can make some healthier meals this way.
Love the fact I know wild veg that can be eaten here, selfish maybe, but don’t talk about it to much as the more people know, the less for my family. Most people where I live have no idea, sad really. Thanks JR

Any idea how to keep large amounts of water in good condition for long time? Clean potable water is the most important thing to surviving Any ideas about home made filters?
I wash out large plastic apple juice bottles after we finish one, and refill with (chlorinated) tap water. It doesn't take very long and it's free, because we would buy the apple juice anyway.
Two things to be aware of regarding unpasteurized honey: Raw honey is more likely to crystallize and it is more likely to cause allergic reactions in people who have pollen allergies. Also, the standard warning: NO honey (whether raw or pasteurized) should be fed to infants under 1 year old because honey naturally has tiny amounts of botulism bacteria in it that their underdeveloped immune systems can't fight off.
I buy quinoa. It’s not the best tasting. I mix it with other foods and my chickens eat some too. It is more costly but it doesn’t weigh much. I love honey and use daily. There are so many different types of honey. Orange blossom, creamed, white honey, local Honey, honey mixed with turmeric, Manuka honey. All yummy. I tend to purchase only freeze dried items that I can’t purchase otherwise. That would be many types of fruit and some vegetables.
Around 2008, I had a link to a build your own vacuum sealed, nutritionally balanced meals based on ethnicities, and I've been searching for that link or my print outs for them 😢

My petromax fire kettle boils 1.5 litres of water in 3 minutes with nothing but twigs or waste paper for fuel .
Great video ...

Make sure to rinse quinoa several times to rinse off the bitter saponins. Then it has a lovely nutty flavour.
Thanks for commenting!
I bought peanut butter powder off Amazon, and it makes delicious peanut butter. I was very pleasantly surprised
So did I
I am eating peanut butter from 7 years ago and it is perfectly fine. Tastes good and nice and creamy.
Oh good, thank you for telling us- I was worried that all of mine was going to be rancid! It's a couple of years old...
I opened one just past the best buy date it had an off odor

Mine went rancid..tasted gross 🤮🤮
I've frozen peanut butter and it's just fine when I take it out of the freezer.
Not food related, but buy some finger nail and toe nail clippers.
Extra glasses for that fine print too.
And elastic hair bands for women with long hair- super important for outdoors.
and a can opener
Shoe laces!
One with nail file preferably. Helps to clean under nails too.
Quinoa can be flavored in many different ways, just like rice. I buy the $9, four lb bag from Sam’s.

Of course we should have these good foods, as much a variety as possible. But it wouldn't hurt to have a bottle of multivitamins.
We have multivitamins in our storage. They are easy to rotate and will be very needed if things go wonky
Used cast iron skillets for all your cooking

Lentils are a grain as well, not a veg but agree they are great for variety and easier on the digestive system

A another good video, JR! Thank you & God bless you.
Sam's club has big bags of freeze-dried strawberries for fairly cheap. I don't think it's a permanent item so I bought a few.
Thank you! Always appreciate the information you have.
Thank you Pat!

Because I’m poor and lazy, gonna mainly stick with rice and beans, but I love the honey and peanut butter idea. Good video as always JR.

Before SHTF, experiment with different recipes and spices for your beans and rice because food boredom is real!!!
If you want to sprout or grow seeds, don't store them with an oxygen absorber. I'm pretty sure they need oxygen as they are living.
Good on you JR for this video.
Thank you Rodney!
I put nuts in food saver bags date then and freeze them to prevent them going rancid.

Yahoo JR! I'm going to get a couple of your packs and then use the mountain house for barter😅👍. I grow kale and put it in almost every dinner
Thank you Bill!

Chia, too....huge fiber content by weight
We added 2 beehives mainly for pollination, but WOW did we get a lot of honey. Also beeswax which I am using to make salves and candles.
Water might be scarce. Takes a lot to cook beans and rice.

You must try real Tupelo honey. Lots of fakes out there. Absolutely the best!
Rinsing quinoa well before cooking removes the bitterness.
