So many people see this and can't figure out where to start. I started prepping before YK2 because I had a 3 yr old daughter and didn't want her to suffer. So I started with $20 and bought rice and beans. Then I added more can veggies. My grandmother gifted her pressure canner and hundreds of jars and showed me how to can. My father tripled the size of his garden that summer and we canned, pickled, dehydrated, etc... Y2K ended up as a non-event, but I was pretty self sufficient by then. I still prep after all this time, and have used my preps for different events. My husband was laid off for several months and we didn't need to buy food. Hurricanes and local tornados have left us without electricity for up to 2 weeks, but we have solar panels, a generator, and oil lamps. So all the preps are comparable to insurance. They're there when you need them. And it all started with $20 spent on rice and beans.

The age old phrase of "better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it is so true! A lot of people think that you have to be rich to Prep is a lie. Start with basic things like storing water with certain chemicals to keep to store it for long term, rice, beans peanut butter and corn & regular flour to make tons of bread, and other eatable items and of course can foods.

Only the super wealthy, relevant government officials, former and current military, and some preppers would last a reasonable amount of time.

Speaking of Europe which is actually a huge livable Continent with 45 nations. Russia alone is a ginormous nation which occupies nearly half of Europe with a relatively small population. Nearly half of mainland Asia, from Siberia to Far-East Asia also is inside Russia.
By the way, the "land grab" is more of the same in Asia-Pacific region where European Colonizers such as Britain and Russia have already Colonized half of Asia, stretching from Australia/New Zealand, to Siberia/Far-East, all in Asia-Pacific region.
Russia occupied vast resource rich Siberia to Far East ever since 17th & 18th century, while Anglo British, sailing halfway around the world from jolly old England, took over giant resourceful landmass of Australia & New Zealand in 18th & 19th century; all in Asia-Pacific, while Native people of Asia-Pacific region are left with and quarreling over a few tiny islands in South China Sea while Anglo Australia/New Zealand have already claimed big chunks of nearby Antarctica.

Having the generator outside, makes you vulnerable, because anyone that wants to do you harm, can reach it and control your living situation. Better is to have a backup system that can be stored inside with power reserve (solar power station) that kicks in when the generator stops. The fact that you need to leave your bunker to fill up makes the whole family a target.

There is a problem with that, though. I know of an entire family here in Australia who died due to a generator running in their basement (which we call a 'cellar' in Australia). Carbon monoxide poisoning. All issues with relying on electricity too much has its drawbacks. So you are the reason I would not able to get any because you bought them up. I replied I had these for over three years The reason you didn't have any is because you did not plan for hard times , now she and her family are canning Raisin chickens And planning for hard times. I agree that these peppers are taking a chance on losing their privacy, safety, and security by going on these documentaries and doing these show and tell.
But, in previous episodes, several participants had lost points for security in that they were highly or overly prepared but had neighbors who were not. These peppers were encouraged to teach their neighbors to be just as prepared or to be more prepared so that when tshtf, the neighbors will not come raiding and looting. Following advice, the previous preppers started facilitating classes, seminars, and workshops for neighbors and other community members to attend.
I hope it is true that if many more people became Doomsday preppers, we will be safe.

People in Texas know of this with the wonderful wind turbines freezing up a couple of years ago. Even here, in Michigan, we just had a million people without power for days from the ice storm, and now another 300k without power from snow storm last Friday. Population issues? I don't see that happening. But I do see financial crisis. I do see political division. I do see a Great Depression. There is ALWAYS something to improve, something to upgrade, something to learn and practice. Like life, preparing isn't a sprint, it is a marathon. These situations are a snapshot in time. Who knows, 3 months later, he could have had a basic battery/solar setup in place, relegating the genny to a backup to the backup (i.e. city power > solar power > generator backup)
