“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred Poker Tournaments. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every Poker Tournament.”

Actually, I put in your quote, and I couldn't find anywhere that says the way you said it. The quote that I wrote is almost exactly the way Sun Tzu says it but I just added in the Poker idea, but thanks for sharing.

Calling 4bets oop w J6o must be some deep game theory derived strategy. I don't think I'll ever posess the intellectual capacity to fully understand it.

Vanessa Rousso is much more intelligent than at first glance. And if I'm being honest, it primarily has to do with how she looks. She's beautiful! Which is NOT my default stance on women as a whole. However, she is EXCEPTIONALLY intelligent! Some men are threatened by a smart woman, I couldn't stand to be with JUST a pretty face. ;) Although on the flip side, even if she were some not so "stylish" MALE pro, I'd probably have the same initial thought, but always reserved for change of that thought. The mind has to be flexible and open, especially if you're to be a winning poker player long term! Thanks for the info Vanessa! :)

She is a good player which is why she never ever wins, good players can be bluffed easily because they tend to overthink the game too much and fold good hands or are bluffed easily in situations they feel is not worth the risk, u see u have to play poker in a way that is aggressive yet simple all the while understanding the money goes around and around if u let it, poker is not that hard to understand or master but what is difficult is to know when ur good hands will have bad luck which results in losses but overall is good in a sense ur odds will win next time or so you think? My advice is to not play in the casino 1/2 cash until u have 5000 bankroll, then u won't get bluffed and can make moves and mistakes yet not feel the swing in a bad run, if ur playing for more than 5% of ur net worth u will never play poker the way the game is meant to be played!

game theory is over rated when applied to poker. I have a BS in engineering and a MS in math. Mr. Nash and his predecessors such as von Neumann were geniuses, and made fantastic advances in the field.

gk10002000 the application of game theory in poker is over rated because you have a few qualifications and some people made great contributions in the field? Or just three random statements strung together with a vague undertones of bragging and a conclusion with no premise?

While it's possible that she does understand and apply these concepts well, she certainly doesn't explain them nearly as effectively as a Galfond or Haxton. She even misspeaks a couple times. "Limps 80% of the time and raises 1% of the time: a four to one ratio." No, you mean raises 20% of the time. And why not just use VPIP/PFR to actually describe a TAG and LAG with relevant numbers.

Great, if you have your tournament entries and living costs paid for by Pokerstars, of course anyone can be successful.
She is just regurgitating a load of facts about game theory she got out a textbook. Anyone can regurgitate facts. It's guys like durrrr, Haxton, Bonomo, Ivey, Galfond who can actually apply this stuff to real games at the highest stakes and absolutely crush the game for huge amounts of money.

raise/limp she says 1%/80% but then says 1/4 is the ratio. siiiigh. maybe she meant 20%/80%. She is using all the big words and it may sound nice in a marketing brochure, but trying to explain any of the math of game theory is not going to work on most people. It is in general not a prolific field of math. It has many applications in theory. In reality, well, in poker not so much. Is this guy a known limper or a raiser or a calling station? How much is the bet, how much is in the pot, and how many outs do I have. Simple summary of OUTS: On the flop, each out is worth about 4%. So you have an open ended straight draw, which is 8 outs. You have about 8 x 4% or 32 % chance of hitting the straight on the turn, or about 1/3 of the time. So in general you want to play only if you have 3 or 4 players in there: 4 x 1/3 = 4/3 would be your expected value. On the turn, each out is worth about 2%. So again if you still did not hit your straight, you now have 8 x 2% or 16% chance or 1/6 of hitting your straight on the river. Overall the total chance of hitting your straight if you stay to the river is the sum - the intersection of the probabilities or 1/3 + 1/6 - 1/3x1/6. 8/18 or .444 or 44%When two events, A and B, are non-mutually exclusive, the probability that A or B will occur is: P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B)

I'm pretty sure that the 4% per out on the flop is the percentage to make your hand by the river (not the turn).

I doubt she understands what she's talking about, probably just parrot-phrasing something from a book that she has no clue about. Or if she does understand it, I doubt she has any idea of how to actually apply it to playing winning poker.
