This was, easily, one of the best lectures on Freemasonry of which I have had the privilege of hearing. Tremendous, fair handed, and open discussion about the history of the fraternity and development of the degrees. Well done!

My grandfather was a 32nd degree mason. He lived in the Dallas TX area. He was a long-time employee of John E. Mitchell Company in Dallas. He's responsible for creating the prototype of the popular iced drink machine, called a "slushie" machine, as part of his work with John E. Mitchell Company. I always admired him for his exceptional character and kindness. Through his association with freemasonry he introduced my grandmother to the masons and she became a member of the Eastern Star.

Almost every 32nd degree I know is a university teacher who specializes in some fascinating particular study like translsting ancient Sanskrit and many are Middle Class not billionaires. It’s only correlated with political leadership because the type of person that would want to improve their community is likely to be a lodge member and those same people are also likely to want to get involved in government. I come from several generations of masons (the most current history from mid 1900’s: Zion Lodge #1 in Detroit, MI: Grandfather, father, uncle, brother in law, and brother all past masters, grandmother, mother, sister and self-Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls… you get the idea!). AND yes, Most were also in the Scottish Rite…
Sad to say they all treated it as their religion (I left it to follow Christ!), and they were all secret racist, and my father an abusive tyrant … it doesn’t matter how much you do to help others if you don’t do it with the right intentions! Certainly I knew some very nice Masons, but none of them saw Jesus as their savior! It was “good works”, lots of secrets, and many living double lives…
The lecture was interesting but I was amazed at things I know (that I don’t think are secret-?!) that weren’t mentioned!! Did he not know, or not allowed to say?? That surprised me!! We all need Christ or our lives are never whole… Read the word!!
I understand what your saying, though I went to a friend's Eastern Star meeting when they were having an open meeting for the newly elected people. I found it delightful really. But what I really wanted to tell you is that Jews, Muslims, Hindus all get into heaven. Heaven is not just Christian. The Lord cares a whole lot more of how we treat each other, than people praising him at the top of their voice.

These are Jesus's words to Nicodemus, A high ranking Jewish Elder, Jesus says you are condemned if you don't believe in him.
Condemned = condamned. The damned don't go to Heaven.

Here is an idea about Symbolism and Masonry....early masons could not read. Symbols imparted knowledge when coupled with the appropriate oration regarding their specific meaning/use. If you can't read but can recognize images and can hear the stories associated with those images then it is a form of learning.

My experience with freemason's is through my grandparents .My grandfather & grandmother were both Navy veterans. My grandfather was a Shriner, we'd go to the circus every year and he'd drive a mini car with other men wearing the funny hats at the circus. We'd go to the lodge on weekends and eat, us kids would sing karaoke, Etc. My grandparents would take us to church every Sunday, but I'm not sure if they were religious they never talked about their beliefs. My grandparents would take us to Disney magic Kingdom every year, they loved us very much. So from a perspective of growing up around this, i still find it problematic to be involved in a secret society "brotherhood". If my grandfather was still alive i would have many questions for him.
So, he was a good & faithful Christian & family man. So, why would you question him? Because, someone on the internet said something bad about Masons?

People often say that because we do things "behind closed doors" there must be something sinister going on. Do they say that about board meetings that companies have? Do they say that when the faithful go to confession? Of course not. When at a meeting, we often hear requests for charity, often from people who really are clutching at straws... having tried everywhere else. This sort of request would be embarrassing if it were widely known...so only the Brethren get to hear about it and then do something about it. That's one reason for meeting in private.

Bill Armstrong owned 'Bill's Burgers', and he hired me to cook, which meant washing dishes, scrubbing floors, polishing windows, sweeping the lot, and cooking. He had a big ring, like a high school ring. He said he recieved the ring when he achieved the final degree of freemasonry. He recalled sobbing after the experience, like a revelation had occurred. He said it was the best thing he ever did. I remember him as a father figure, a great man.

The fact that this guy doesnt even mention Alchemy, Gnosticism, Or the relationship such gnostic teachings have with the church(which explains very easily why the church would take issue with Freemasonry) leads me to believe he is either ignorant of the prevalence of both Alchem ical and Gnostic teachings within Freemasonry, or he is intentionally obfuscating this. Either way, by the end of this lecture I am unfortunately left where I hoped I wouldnt be: right where I started. Sadly, this lecture was just what I suspected: A rather incomplete, cursory, safe, disney-fide history of freemasonry, and anyone with a working knowledge of even just the gnostic teachings incorporated into the symbolism and such can see that.
The Church? Do you mean that organisation that organised the bloody crusades, the inquisition (where millions of people died because they were not christian), The Church that put someone in jail for claiming the sun is the middle of the solarsystem and not earth, who killed more than 300 children in Ireland and who denies child abuse? @@indridcold2872 Considering the two institutions now overlap in terms of membership, I'd say they're set to share in eachothers level of "good" or "bad". Considering the connections that freemasonry has to the Jesuits, I'm not so sure freemasonry is all that great either, although I will wholeheartedly agree that the Catholic church is a travesty, corrupt, and criminal, and I struggle to find a period since its inception where such characteristics were not present.

I'm Aussie but carry around an American dollar note given to me by my friends father who could only tell me that when he reached a certain level as a Freemason, he found out it was not "God" who they worship and he disavowed them and gave me the dollar as warning and his daughter, my friend, a Masonic "bible" of sorts which he wrote inside the cover "Trust No One" and never said another word. He was definitely severely "affected" by who it was revealed their "Lord" was. LUCIFER/Horus.

@@ikm64 I'm not going in to the semantics of the whole thing...I'd end up writing a book. Secret is simply sort of synonym for privacy. Suffice it to say, if you do not want some people to know something, there will be a reason. People like you assume that the reason we keep "secrets" is one of a nefarious nature. It is not. We ask me to keep certain innocent things secret, merely as a symbol for their integrity. the actual contents of the "secrets" are the sign, grip and word of the Degree being worked.. that's all. So if a man cannot keep those things secret.. when sworn in the presence of what he considers the supreme being to be..what would his word be worth?

However historically he lapsed in that it was obvious , being an American, that he was not familiar with European history and the Jacobites...which would go a long way to explain the development of FM in France, the Revolution and then its subsequent influence on French Rite. My maternal family name is Masson, which is a spelling variant for mason. The first recorded name of Mason (Maison, Masson, etc.) in England is from 1100 AD. Mason is a derivative of the French word meaning stone worker. They immigrated to England after the 1066 Norman conquering of the Anglo-Saxons. I have no idea if any of my distant ancestors were Freemasons but my Mother was part of the local Eastern Star and my Dad was a Freemason in the local chapter. Back in the '60s it was just a small town social/service club and then disappeared when the Lions and Lioness groups became established in the '70s.
I remember a Christmas party at the lodge when I was a little kid and we kids were able to wander around the building. We found that they had a literal human skeleton in a closet at the lodge. What a hoot! Dad never mentioned what they did with that in their ceremonies.
