This is a thank you comment. About 7 or 8 years ago I started hiking in my home state of NH. When I wasn't hiking I was looking up videos of where to go and what to do next. When I came across your videos is when I first really heard about backpacking. That sparked an interest in me and I never looked back. You helped me fall so in love with backpacking that this year I thru hiked the Appalachian Trail, an experience that changed me life. Had it not been for your videos I may never have had that opportunity. Love you Sintax
My favorite moments are the extended breaks with detailed commentary - knowing full well you are behind schedule. Sintax always puts his viewers first!
I love how you still post really long videos. A lot of TH-camrs really try and make them short but I watch TH-cam instead of films and TV, (for the most part), so I don't mind the long ones.
I really enjoyed this video as I have all your videos. I love the fall scenery. I don’t mind the clips of hiking thru town - makes it different and interesting! Seems like perfect hiking temps. I don’t mind fall and winter hiking - rarely mind the temps - only the mud.I am only a day hiker but I rarely go a day without a short hike on nearby trails. I have time for this - I’m retired. Keep sharing your hikes with all of us.
P38, yeah baby! I have, however, discovered that it does not work as well on some of the newer cans. The cans seem to have a smaller lip area for the openers to pivot on. They do still work better than my pocket knife (or a saw). My Dad gave me my first P38 can opener in the early 70's and I still have and use it. I really have to check out that trail. It looks awesome. My old butt would need at least 4 days and 5 would be better. Glad that you are sharing your trip with us.
Great to see you back on the trail, but that is a lot miles for 3 days. Great editing in to the first night transition. I have never found Gore-tex to be any problem drying. It usually depends on the type of socks I'm using. And you did not overshoot or miss any trails when you didn't have any electronics. Great video again!
It's fun watching this again after I just finished this loop for the first time. I went counterclockwise to tackle the dams first. Switched to some crocs for each crossing and kept my shoes from being drenched and muddy.
Hi Sintax I generally don't like long videos but you always have great presentations so I took the opportunity to watch on my 60" TV. What a show thanks for your work. Take Care
I love watching the videos of your trips, it may be extra weight but I always carry a leather man tool as well as a topo and compass of the area I am traveling through.
Just back from my trip to London and Paris. I arrived quite late in Music City the eve of the 11th, and woke up at 1:45 AM the morn of the 13th (hello jet lag) to a new Syntax 77 Video, That was a pleasant surprise to have your long trek to watch in the Am hours. Thanks for the shout out. My daughter and I had a good trip, and we did some hiking. Nothing like you did of course, but we logged in 8.5 miles in Paris, doing the Catacombs and the Pere Lachaise Cemetery in the same day. That was enough for a Senior Citizen like I. I am glad you enjoyed the Chili. It's tine to send you some more. I really enjoyed the Fall foliage on your hike. We also got a lot of that on our walk through Pere LaChaise. I'd been there before, but this time we did see the grave of Jim Morrison, as well as that of Chopan, Oscar Wilde, Sarah Bernhardt and more. Glad you hung in there and completed your hike. It's always good when your travel plans work out, for the most part, though there are always some surprises as your Chair Rock camp site was occupied, and we had a very late Eurostar from Paris to London due to a bomb scare at the train station, Still, your hikes and travels are good for the soul and always educational. Until next time. Thanks for entertaining me through my early morning hours.
Did the wife sign off on the use of "WE" in "grabbed the wrong can of beans etc"?🙃 Btw, that P-38 is much easier to manipulate w/o the keys in the way. We used them in the Army for everything, primarily to cut tops out of soda cans for spitters. Never goes dull and opens everything and is quite the multi-tool.
Another great video. I would have totally taken the short cur on the last day. Kudos to you for sticking to your plan and hiking the entire 50. I hope you get a chance to return and see Cat Mountain.
Always like seeing your adventures. Especially when you are visiting areas I know well. Some neat stuff not far from there. I used part of the CL50 for the last day of my 75miler from Placid to Cranberry Lake.
Great vids. Love the channel. One tip when moving off trail is to identify the direction you want to go (by pointing with the app up) and by using a compass (either magnetic or with your phone) set an azimuth in the direction you want to go then regularly check that you are moving in the desired direction. Or just keep an eye on the tracker. I like having backups when navigating.
Did 40 miles of this trail during peak foliage too but someone in my groups quilt got soaked and it was snowing so we had to bail out. Still a great trip
Congrats on completing the CL50! I love catching your videos when you make it up to the Adirondacks since they are my special place to go. The CL50 has turned into quite a sensation in recent years, especially during the pandemic. It used to be the 5 Ponds area didn't see too many visitors but that has really changed. Fortunately everyone wants to hit the 50 and that is only a small portion of what the 5 Ponds area offers and those other places is where you are going to find me. I was really hoping you would make the side trip up Cat Mtn for the spectacular views. Seeing the Olmstead Pond lean-to brought back some great memories for me as it was my first Adirondack backpacking trip 30+ years ago when we bushwacked off the back of Cat Mtn. I am glad you took your time and enjoyed at least some of the beauty there but I sure was wishing you were going to add an extra day to your trip and really enjoy the area instead of hiking at night. Love your videos and love your reference to earlier misadventures, at least you weren't chasing weiners this time! BTW, lately it seems like those fighter jets are out every time I go up there and it does kind of spoil the tranquility even if it doesn't last all day. Keep up the great videos! Jeff
Absolutely b line with a GPS. I did this trail very close to the newly created reroute to avoid the then 4-6 mile road walk. That area you first started on looks a LOT better than when we walked through that part as it was basically a bushwhack and the trail was freshly created.
Hiked this with a couple of friends in early October as well. Cat Mountain as well as High Falls are definitely worth the sides trips if you ever return. The guide book says that run down shack with the abandoned stove was an old hunting camp.
Thanks, Chris. I'll have to go back and do it again sometime in the summer with longer days and maybe even do 4 days instead of three. Seems likes there's a lot more to see out there.
You are my first TH-cam subscription years ago when I discovered this medium. Still appreciate all your videos. Stellar job Sean! What happened to Trail Slipper? Family obligations keep him of the trail?
Late summer we aught take a couple viewers on a section of the Superior up past Duluth, or the Northcountry Scenic up the UP. Yooper Fall Lake of the Clouds to Pictured Rocks or ontenogon.. somewhere.
nice vid as always! did think it was kinda ironic at the beginning when you were going over your ultralight base weight etc and then you clip this humongous 5 lb key collection to your pack :)
Those fighters are likely working within the Tupper west MOA (military operating area) 6,000’-17,999’. Also the Cranberry MOA is 500’-5,999’ Likely given the sound they were active in the Tupper MOA. Several MOA in that area and used regularly. Hope that helps.
I had probably 100 can openers from mre's. They used to give them out when the kitchen was running behind, I stocked up big time, we would get the MRE then just go off base and eat and bank the MRE's!
@@abyssiniahenry128 You are right. Though I never meant the same P-38 or P-51 listed in the video, We used to get boxed lunches from the mess hall and in those boxes were regular bottle opener/can ripper tool, that is how I amassed so many bottle openers that I strung them on old shoe laces.
Hi - I think you made Ed up your K vs C rations. K rations are the super dense cornflake sawdust bars that break your teeth and suck every last bit of moisture out of your mouth. C rats are the cans some of which are quite good and you use the P38 or larger P51 (aka John Waynes) to open. I’m way to young to have been around in WWII, but sadly we were still being fed them during training in the 80’s.
Good times. Just for concern, adding water to your soup from the lake or pond would require sufficient full on boil of your whole pot of soup. We don’t wanna lose you.
P38 Lightning P51 Mustang I’m not sure. You might put the p38 opener on a cord for you neck or something you will soon find out on your keys is asking for a mess and makes it hard to use. Seemed like a nice trip even though you had to push in the night. Have fun be safe.

My wife and I started backpacking in June of this year, we live in knoxville and have not missed a weekend in the smokies since the end of May, would totally enjoy your company if you wanted to plan a trip! We are going for every backcountry site and trail and have alot to do!
I was curious about that too since I've never seen Sintax77 use Heet before, always carried denatured alcohol in a marked crushed up water bottle. Thought maybe he just used the bottle from Heet as his alcohol container. He may have mentioned using Heet way back in the day when he was perfecting his cat can stoves and best fuels etc. though. Interesting.
I did it last September and got my patch, you also get your name on the finishers list on the website. Was a fun trail and did it in two night even with blowing out a flat tire on the six and a half hour drive there and having to change the flat and find a pace to get a new tire lol With the potable aqua tabs I got some for winter when I don't want to worry about my filter freezing. I see they say not for prolonged use and doesn't remove cysts. I guess you haven't experienced any adverse affects?
Sounds like a good trip, despite the flat tire, of course. No, I haven't had issues. I'm really only using them about once a month, occasionally 2 weeks apart at the most, so I'm not worried about it. The lack of cyptosporidiam protection is a little less than ideal, but at least it covered Giardia with all that beaver activity on this trip.
I finally got a chance to watch the last 25 minutes of your video. 👍 I have been using heet in my alcohol stove for several years now. It works good! I should be back doing some live streams again next week. Let me know if you would like to be on one someday.

@sintax77 can you do an updated gear list for fall/ winter for hammock set up, as well as top and under quilts and backpack, rain tarp, what other gear you use? also I just bought a dutchware netless hammock with a bunch of the accessories, but wanna know what under quilt and top quilt to buy, I'm thinking hammock gear for them but can you review the economy line off stuff whats the difference between the more expensive one

P51 Mustang P38 Lightning ... two of the best planes from WW2. Good to see ya man. That's a beautiful lake and trail.

Hey Sintax. That Heat is actually almost all methanol. Toxic if too much is absorbed through the skin. Worse for you than denatured alcohol.

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but 30% rain doesn’t mean there’s a 30% chance of rain. It means 30% of the forecasted area WILL see rain.
Except in the Adirondacks where any chance of rain is 100% chance of rain
