Some nice people have pointed out that my fire placement was far from ideal as It was on top of Lichen which I didn't realize takes forever to grow back. So in hindsight, I should have picked a more suitable and less impactful spot to have a fire :/ My intentions were good but my execution was far from it. Thanks to everyone who's informed me, I definitely want to do the right thing and I'm always learning so I do appreciate it :D
Ok so sometime you have to do the lesser of two evils, and sometimes it is a flip of a coin.. Is there a shortage of Lichen, not from the videos I have been watching from Canada. I personally think it shows you were thinking of nature and she has a way of rebounding no matter what we do.. Down here in Louisiana we dumped thousands of gallons of oil in the gulf of Mexico " BP Oilspill" and while the immediate damage was devastating, mother nature has rebounded and we are eating fish, shrimp and enjoying our waterways again just a few years later..
No one should be angry with someone trying to do the right thing and getting it wrong. The most important thing is Xander clearly has preservation at the front of his mind when in the bush. Love your videos man.
hey xander im in the hospital for cancer treament right now and im binging your channel, ur keeping me going man i hope im able to do this one day either with you or someone like you, hope you keep posting more just watched the 2 hour video on lost lakes channel. anyways if you see this thanks for the effort u put into this!

Absolutely beautiful spot. I hope everyone appreciates how much work and effort goes into each of your videos, from camera placements to the editing time. As always, top notch!
So many people choose not to go out when it’s cold. I’ve found that the more you embrace it, the more manageable and enjoyable it is. Plus the right clothing helps. Fleece lined hiking pants and a wind resistant jacket are the play for me.
I’ve been going through a really hard time in my life lately, and it just so happens that I’ve discovered your channel Xander. It’s really easy for me to just unwind and release my mind into the Canadian wilderness with you. These videos are so calming, and wonderful for the soul. Thank you
I always love the drone shots when they move upwards and you can see the horizon. It really gives a great sense of isolation and an adventurous feeling of millions of acres of wilderness untouched by man. Just something I find really awe inspiring. Please keep making videos Xander!
I couldn't agree more. The weather might not be the nicest but just invest in some warm clothes, find a great spot and keep that fire going. My brother Bryan and i are doing "one last trip" this coming weekend. We got this. Do up some PB&J pancakes and just add some fruit and nuts. Lots of energy and easy to make.
I can’t get over the amount of time you take to set up the walking shots. You hike and then find a spot to set up the camera and then you go back and walk towards or away from the camera for the shot and then you get the camera and then hike and do it again for the next shot. Incredible that you put that much effort and shows how much you care about your audience. Amazing work!
"I've said it again and again, this is a hit" Everytime you upload, I'm simply mesmerized by the beauty of nature. I can't wait to see you hiking in the winter again. And the timelapse of the sky.. wow, I could watch it for hours on end.
Nothing more soothing than watching Xander traversing his way over the Canadian wilderness, eating his sublime nosh, and enjoying all of this in the comfort of my cozy couch. Life is about the journey and not the destination…
Thank you Xander! I was nervous because i am defending my Masters Thesis tomorrow. Your video came just in time and calmed me down so now i can sleep and dream about Outdoor Adventures :)

Hi Xander, I’m sure there are many of us that are Thankful that you are willing to leave the comfort of your home to go out and enjoy the beauty of nature and then to share it with us. The area you chose this time was so pretty. The wind you had, we had today here in St. Paul Minnesota…plus some snow flurries that were on and off. So much for a good hair day. Was nice to enjoy two Good Mornings from you…they make me smile. It is nice to see you write a journal. I’m sure it is mainly to help you recall some things for when you put your videos together. Again Thank You for sharing another good video. Stay safe. 😊
Thank you for making these videos Xander, they're absolutely beautiful and i find them extremely relaxing and i actually learn alot about camping at the same time. Thank you!!
Hey, I'm clearly late to the party. Lately, I've been lamenting the daily grind, and just kind of burnt-out on caretaking -- I work a job where I take care of a lot of people, and I have a husband and 3 kids at home. I just want some time where I'm only responsible for me. I love nature and have done many camping trips when I was a teen (since kids, only to campgrounds). My husband suggested that I take on a solo camping trip. Let me tell you, this video drove me to tears. The beauty. The simplicity. The nature. I am smart enough not to go TOO interior for a first try after 20+ years of flush toilets, but this is my goal. You made it look gorgeous. I can tell that you come well-prepared. Thanks too for the plug on home dehydrating -- seems like a game changer and worth the investment since our family is ready for a few less-posh camping spots as the kids are getting older. Not sure where you're from, but much love from Ontario, Canada. Thanks for igniting a spark that's always been there, but now burns a little hotter and brighter.
Green with envy ;) Living in the most densly populated country in Europe, there are no spots like these. Wild camping and fires are prohibited, so you make me very happy with your videos.
You don’t need to go that far for beautiful spots in nature and wild camping, from top of my head Sweden, the Czech Republic, Estonia or Albania. Those are beautiful countries and you can enjoy the freedom and peaceful surroundings if you are not behaving badly to the nature.
Xander hope you’re well today brother you bring me peace every night and help my anxiety before I sleep, you’re doing the world a service with your content
How does this guy not have more subscribers. The filming, editing, and narration are all extremely well done! Thanks for the video, can't wait for more in the future.👌
I have crippling anxiety. Bad enough that just going to the grocery store is an exhausting achievement. But your videos allow me to relax a little bit. Even If I can never bring myself to go on any adventures, it's nice to experience these beautiful places through you! Keep up the amazing work! :)

I've seen so many camping channels where a dude just picks a random spot, sets up a fancy tent, shows off some cutlery while cooking food, eats and straight goes to sleep. It's like they were there just for the sake of making a video and not actually for the experience itself. With you however, it's more than content creating. It's soothingly obvious that you're there for a personal, deep experience. And the way you put together your videos perfectly captures that intention.
your videos are awesome man. you're out in the middle of nowhere cooking better meals with a campfire than I can at home. Inspiring me to get out there myself.
Your videos are superb man. The ease with how you manage to put up the tent, gather and chop wood, set-up, cook, not be scared of being alone in the middle of nowehere, etc etc is phenomenal! Not to mention you do everything with quality, the cooking is creative and the food seems mouth watering. I usually have trouble sleeping alone in tents (with the fear of the unknown I guess) but you breeze it through. Kudos to you man, keep it going.
What a find! Great video. Great one frying pan recipe my family love to have camping is: fry up some chopped onion till soft, add boiled potatoes and brown the onions and potatoes, add corned beef, heat through, push the mixture to the outside to make a big well, crack two eggs into the hole, cook until the whites are cooked keeping the yokes runny, sprinkle liberally with Worcestershire sauce and ground black pepper. Eat from the pan. After a days walking it really hits the spot. Super rich, super filling, absolutely delicious. If you’re feeling really decadent add some grated cheddar!
Xander your channel has definitely become one of my favorites! I have never camped in the winter but you have inspired me to give it a shot! (I just need a better tent and sleeping bag) Seasonal depression hits me hard...and I am the same as you when it comes to being happiest outdoors in nature. Wish me luck!!!
Hi Xander, this video really lifted my spirits today. I have a recipe for you: Vegetable Curry (this dish is very much a blank slate). Sautee onions, garlic, and a finely chopped pepper in (coconut) oil. Add curry paste when onions are translucent. Add 1 can of coconut milk (shaken and well mixed) to deglaze. Add vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes, kale, or radishes (even though any vegetables will taste good). Add some tofu or fire roasted chicken. Simmer until vegetables are done. Serve over rice. Hope you enjoy this is an all time favorite of mine. Love you videos from Chicago
I came to enjoy the expereience of nature while being in a city, and I'm amazed at how quality the main character and production are. So honest and open and exhilierating. If I could change one thing it would be more time spent at dinner in front of the crackling fire. Not much of an ASMR guy but gdamn is that healing to watch... Really motivating me to make some changes... Thank you so much for reminding me of what's outside of my box. All the best
Living off the grid and the land like this is an invaluable and underrated skill due to all the industrialization we now enjoy in the 21st Century. Great video.
I just want to say that your videos are amazing! You're getting me into camping and hiking and everything in between. I can't wait to start getting things together to experience nature and go on adventures of my own just like you :) Thanks for being you!
Dear Xander, you are quickly becoming one of my favorite youtube outdoors people, I love your attitude towards nature and despite your faux pas regarding the lichen, you show terrific regard for the beauty and wonder of your surroundings. I look forward to watching more of your adventures. Take care and be safe. Love from Nova Scotia!
Your message hits home. The hardest part is to get out the door. The fun & experience is always fantastic once you get back home & reflect. Love the content 👍🇦🇺
Just got serious and invested in the A7iii today. It was a huge financial investment for me but you are living proof that investing in yourself is the best kind of investment. Appreciate you bro!
It makes me wonder how far out away from city you had to go to not hear jets flying over, trucks downshifting, and peoples' voices. That was a balm for the soul! Thank you!😊😂
I found your channel a few months ago via TH-cam algorithm. I watched an early episode I think and then life happened as it does. More recently I've been able to watch several more. I've watched all the others. Robinette, Posa, Stroud, you name it. I've always been particularly fond of Les and I still am. However your channel is my favorite. I appreciate you and I'm glad you're sharing these with us. 👍
Something me and my friend made one time while camping that I enjoyed was taking a loaf of garlic bread and adding pizza toppings to it so pepperoni, pizza sauce, muchrooms, cheese and whatever else you want. Definitely recommend but maybe an entire loaf might be a bit much for one person.
This video is excellent! Its great seeing a survivalist using everything they can to ensure they can withstand the extreme conditions outside, without disrupting nature. Fantastic job!
Love these videos, my 4 year old daughter is a massive fan every time we walk through the woods she's out searching for birchbark. Keep doing what you're doing XB you inspire a lot of people..
Go to places where very few people have gone...touch the trees n rocks that most likely no person has ever touched. It is a blessing. When you get to be the ripe old age when you have grandkids, that's when the strange creatures and monsters make their appearances in your stories...lol! Keep it coming, brother!
I agree, absolutely a gorgeous hide out. Like your dehydrated meal, what an great idea. Truly enjoying your videos. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
I chanced upon your channel 2 weeks ago and I am so so so glad I did. I've been watching a video or 2 daily ever since and they bring me so much peace amidst the stress I'm gg through in life. I cannot say thank you enough!
....I love your videos so much! It's just insane how hyped I am to learn all these "bushcraft-things"! Some days ago I started my first ever fire with a fire starter kit! Best thing is that my 2,5 year old son was with me and he had a lot of fun! My mission is clear now - I'll bring my boy out in the nature as often as possible (just for some hours because of his age)! You are so inspiring and I'm so thankful for that! Maybe my son and I will have our first overnight experience out in the nature soon :) Greetings from Cologne, Germany!
Congrats ! My Friend! You brought this experience to full life for me. I could imagine the smells, and the sounds. Thank you for your efforts, Much Love from Canada.
These drone shots are so unbelievable awesome 😍no sign of human beings, roads, houses, anything... Just wild beautiful nature. This is soooo wonderful 😍😍I love your videos so much 😍😍
Absolutely love your content! Watching all the way from New Zealand. I’ve watched all your videos and am hanging out for more!! Watching someone going on adventures hits differently when they’re passionate about what they do! Thanks heaps!! Kev
Your right it can be hard to get motivated in the cooler temps but as your clearly show when you find a good location its always so worthwhile, thanks for sharing
I just found this channel a week ago and have watched like 20 of your vids. Canada seems like such a beautiful place and I’m glad you have put so much effort into capturing that beauty! Keep it up!
I know this is an old video but I hope you see this Xander... Food idea.. Hobo Pie... It's basically just a burger patty plus veg and such wrapped up in aluminum foil and cooked in the fire for a while. You can really add anything to it you like. My personal fav is Burger, Potatos (breakfast potatos size chunks) carrots, celery, onions, salt and pepper, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, BBQ sauce and ketchup... all wrapped and stuffed into the coals for about 10-15min before flipping and letting go for another 10-15mi or until everything is tender, it really depends on how roaring the coals are / kept... We made these in my Boy Scout troop on almost every camp out. Super simple, super filling, and clean up is dummy easy!
HI from northern Ontario! 🤙🏼 for breakfast you can cut a hole in the middle of your toast, in a pan fry your egg in the middle of the toast, add bacon red peppers and Tabasco sauce! YUM (I usually add fried diced potatoes)
What a beautiful spot, Just love the way you fast forward when chopping/ breaking the wood how awesome is that... As far as a meal prep for dinner have you done.. steak strips and veggies in a bag.. no dishes, baking paper on top of foil place your meat and veggies on top then fold the edges up.. maybe half hour on the fire.. then eat from the bag ... delicious 😋 Anyways enjoy your camping 🏕 and stay safe out there👍🕊❤ Forgot to mention add salt and your favorite spices, I used Morroccan seasoning 😋 and a little olive oil...
Breakfast idea. My wife calls it cowboy Breakfast. It's toast (we use Texas toast) with a hole cut in it. Throw that in a hot pan and throw an egg in the hole. Cook to your liking. Add baked beans and tomato slices. One of my favorites.
Just discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago, and you’re now one of my favourite outdoor/camping channels here on TH-cam, Xander! And I only have 3 faves! 😂😂 I've been binge-watching your videos while waiting for the new ones. I'm an outdoor person too but I'm stuck at home because of the pandemic. Thanks for bringing us to beautiful places, and sharing your camping meals. Keep being awesome and stay safe! 💚
Nice find; gorgeous lake! Re campfire location, and Leave No Trace Ethics, the rocks are the better choice for a fire. The blackness will wash away after a couple good rains whereas the lichen will die and so will the soil microbes beneath it. There will be a ground scar at that spot for years. Now after seeing your supper, I'm going to eat the entire contents of my fridge. Nice work.
@@XanderBudnick most people don't even think or care about these things. It's nice to see you do and you share them with your audience. It's clear you've put a lot of effort into gaining skills and you've grown a ton. Keep up the good work!
Dinner idea: easy stir fry! Precut veggies (broccoli, onions, bell peppers, etc) and meat (steak, chicken, or pork) and toss into a bag with marinade (soy sauce, fish sauce, vinegar, etc). Bring the whole bag along and all you need to do is stir fry and make some rice if you want!
Great vid man. Love the different meals you cook, the food segments are always up among my favorite because it just adds to the coziness and ambience of being out in the wild and cooking on a fire.
You get extra bonus points for using corn tortillas! So much added flavor. S.A.D. = Seasonal Affective Disorder is a real thing. Sunlight is the best remedy for sure.
i almost always prepare the same meal when you upload its like a tradition and so basic... boil up some fusilli, drain it and then mix in a tin of some chunky soup. Beef and vegetable is usually my go-to.. its such a cosy and easy meal and as i say, always for your uploads!
Easy chicken sandwich: Season chicken with salt, pepper, gralic powder, bit of paprika and let sit for a few mins , use a nice loaf of bread like baguette, fav sauce such as bbq, tomato, carrots (shaved are nice but normal also works) and cheese of choice: aged cheddar, parmesan or brie are good. Another recipe with chicken: Season chicken how u like, cook and then pour pasta sauce _olive or ricotta from barilla are nice), add some cheese like mozzarella or parmesan and cover with lid, enjoy.
I really enjoy your channel. Here is a breakfast idea that I really like that you reminded me off while toasting bread. Fried bread! Pretty much any brand of frozen bread dough will do. Just make sure that whatever you plan to use that you let it rise (probably in a zip lock bag in your hanging food bag the night before.) Pat a couple pieces out much like a hamburger but much larger in diameter....keep it relatively thin though, not more than 1/2'. Just fry it to your liking in the skillet and add butter, jam, and or apple butter....whatever toping you like. Excellent and easy. If it is doughie in the middle, just make them thinner. Enjoy! Country Rhodes Adventures.

Goodluck you've got this
Yaa nature is everything bez everyone Connected with each other
Vitamin D. 5000 IUs a day. Don’t skip it.
Love that star time-lapse. Maybe a little easier to get those this time of year when it's darker earlier. Loved those meals too. Nice vid! - Alex
I think in Canada it's always quite easy to get those. They don't have that much light pollution.
That first bit about staying home and watching waaaaaaaay too much TH-cam hit hard XD.
Your videos are awesome man, keep up the good work!
Gustavo did a great job on this “solo” trip lol great video and fantastic editing as always! I look forward to your next long trip!
I agree! This was such a cool video ! Thanks so much for sharing!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Goodluck ✌
I really am wanting the Sony A6000. I know no where near the level of the A7iii but heck yeah man.
@@marnixvanderlinden6116 thank you!
@@Tmv21395 I was looking at the A6000 but I figured I might aswell just commit to the A7 to avoid having to upgrade in the next couple of years.
It makes me wonder how far out away from city you had to go to not hear jets flying over, trucks downshifting, and peoples' voices. That was a balm for the soul! Thank you!😊😂
Xander you are living my dream, I always wish to go camping in the wild but I'm not able to. Keep up this amazing work. thank you :)
Some great helicopter flying by Gustavo at 2:15!
Nice video Bro 🙂👍
Beautiful places. It's good that this nature is still around us.
Happy hikes 🙌
Muchrooms…lol
@@ophello I just noticed that haha its staying
I love the drone shots really sets the mood makes you feel like your there I'm so glad I live in this beautiful country.
Always a happy day when Xander uploads! Thank you man, please know your videos are inspiring!
*a lot
Go to places where very few people have gone...touch the trees n rocks that most likely no person has ever touched. It is a blessing. When you get to be the ripe old age when you have grandkids, that's when the strange creatures and monsters make their appearances in your stories...lol!
Keep it coming, brother!
Such a solid mindset Mr Xander Bander, and solid video as usual!
I agree, absolutely a gorgeous hide out. Like your dehydrated meal, what an great idea.
Truly enjoying your videos. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Xander i just love your Content Mate
Youre doing great, thank you for sharing this nice content with us 😁✌🏼
The nature is the biggest beauty ❤
Maybe my son and I will have our first overnight experience out in the nature soon :)
Greetings from Cologne, Germany!
Amazing my friend! thanks for sharing best of luck :D
Congrats ! My Friend! You brought this experience to full life for me. I could imagine the smells, and the sounds. Thank you for your efforts, Much Love from Canada.
Xander never fails to make good videos
my night routine includes watching his videos and sleep
These drone shots are so unbelievable awesome 😍no sign of human beings, roads, houses, anything... Just wild beautiful nature. This is soooo wonderful 😍😍I love your videos so much 😍😍
The amount of work that goes into these videos is just epic!
Absolutely love your content! Watching all the way from New Zealand. I’ve watched all your videos and am hanging out for more!! Watching someone going on adventures hits differently when they’re passionate about what they do! Thanks heaps!! Kev
What were you reading on the tent?
I highly recommend you Thoreau if you haven't read him yet, he really suits your videos ✌🏻✨
Do you know what music is that ?
So few people actually recover happy to see you happy and thriving plus your videos keep me off network television
Where is Gustavo?
Love your videos and context, Xander. Soothing yet very informative and interesting. This one, in particular, was lovely. Keep doing you!
Keep it up!
Literally binge watched your channel. I have the biggest urge to go camping. Just being out in nature seems like the best thing
Awesome of you to acknowledge seasonal affective disorder without making it a big thing. Truly made my day. Thank you!
What a beautiful spot,
Just love the way you fast forward when chopping/ breaking the wood how awesome is that...
As far as a meal prep for dinner have you done.. steak strips and veggies in a bag.. no dishes, baking paper on top of foil place your meat and veggies on top then fold the edges up.. maybe half hour on the fire.. then eat from the bag ... delicious 😋
Anyways enjoy your camping 🏕 and stay safe out there👍🕊❤
Forgot to mention add salt and your favorite spices, I used Morroccan seasoning 😋 and a little olive oil...
You are the Bob Ross of camping videos. So meditative to watch. I’m glad you’re enjoying some new gear!
Man the view and the music 2:55 made me breathe so calm I felt peaceful .
Thank you for this journey 😗💓
Breakfast idea. My wife calls it cowboy Breakfast. It's toast (we use Texas toast) with a hole cut in it. Throw that in a hot pan and throw an egg in the hole. Cook to your liking. Add baked beans and tomato slices. One of my favorites.
How do you get the hole in the toast hmm😅
Nice work.
Good to know. I was told in the past to not burn of the rocks and to burn on the moss.
@@XanderBudnick most people don't even think or care about these things. It's nice to see you do and you share them with your audience. It's clear you've put a lot of effort into gaining skills and you've grown a ton. Keep up the good work!
@@WTFwuzdat I appreciate that ☺️
Dinner idea: easy stir fry!
This video changed everything for me and showed me how much you can do if you just go do it so thanks for sharing it!
Great vid man. Love the different meals you cook, the food segments are always up among my favorite because it just adds to the coziness and ambience of being out in the wild and cooking on a fire.
What a beautiful lake. Thanks for sharing it with us! Glad you and Gustavo could shake the blues.
dont ever stop producing these great videos. I have learn so much from you Xander.
Your editing skills have improved exponentially señor!!!
Excellent job!! Thank you!!!
been down for the past couple of days but then I came across this vid... now ready to head out and recharge my soul through nature!!
You get extra bonus points for using corn tortillas! So much added flavor.
S.A.D. = Seasonal Affective Disorder is a real thing. Sunlight is the best remedy for sure.
Absolutely inspirational. I'm consuming your videos one after the other. Simply beautiful and so down to earth. Thanks and keep it up.
Unbelievably relaxing to watch after a shitty day. Please keep these coming
i almost always prepare the same meal when you upload its like a tradition and so basic... boil up some fusilli, drain it and then mix in a tin of some chunky soup. Beef and vegetable is usually my go-to.. its such a cosy and easy meal and as i say, always for your uploads!
Beautiful spot! Thanks for the video! Gustavo keeps impressing with the videography! 👍
Such great encouragement and inspiration to hike and camp in the off season, thank you!
First time viewer. Had me locked in with a perfect intro. This is the kind of content I aspire to create. Good stuff my guy 🤙
Top notch content
Great to see you out and about my friend! Loved the cooked meals. Can't wait for more!
Enjoy!
