Some people forget that Arnold made a mess of Californias budget and roads by changing registration fees. The VLF reverted to 0.65 percent where it has stayed ever since. In so doing, the state incurred a $6 billion structural imbalance that Gov. Brown inherited. Roads went to hell, and have yet to recover.
Not accurate.....Arnold put EVERYTHING up for vote....the people voted for not increasing the budgets.....Jerry went against the people and raised the sales tax....He said it was temporary until the budget was balanced. Did he ever bring it back down? No he didnt..... and Arnold had the budget problems created by Gray Davis. The people voted on special elections all during his time as Gov....and voted against anything to do with paying off stuff...He did what the people wanted. Brown did what he wanted. total failure and money wasted everywhere. Thank Brown and Newsome for all the problems this state has now.
Thanks for the updates Mike. Some commenters don't appreciate the no-VW content and tangents but i certainly enjoy the varied content. 8:54 those terrible vents! They are what caused the body-rot I had to contend with when I purchased my '68. The first mod I did to the car was delete that vent so no more water could leak into the trunk and down into the sills and heater channels.
Both beautiful cars. Anytime you have cars you have trouble. But isn't that the fun? To figure it out and have fun. Thanks for taking us along for the ride Mike
Good times 🎉 the place you have now seems ideal. Plenty of space, quiet, large yard, shop building. Maybe a bit hot in the summer. Close to Vw shops. I live in California as well and understand the frustration. I think it’s still a great place. Things might change who knows. I think a cal look bug with the 68 would be cool 🎉
may flip pretty soon here many people are pretty fed up. And all the content around here for youtube is really good. I would need to change it up if I moved.
Id be careful keeping that bike close to the cars or anything flammable. I've had one of those cells from a battery pack vent off before, it's like an acetylene torch and real hard to extinguish. As far as cost of living goes with moving, I'm supporting a family of 4, a mortgage, 5 cats, 3 chickens, 5 vehicles, and a 120 year old home and saving on ~6k a month in Central PA 10mins from a metropolitan area. PA isn't the most expensive, but it's also not the cheapest. In perspective I've lived for a few months in Vandenberg CA, Tacoma WA, Rapid City SD, Long Island NY, Albuquerque NM ,and North East MD. New Mexico had its drawbacks but the cost of living was way lower than what I'm dealing with here in PA. I'm only back here because my mother's getting old. The small details will make all the difference, you've really got to sit down and do the math to know for sure. Example: CA requires all vehicles be registered and paid on annually, regardless of whether or not it's running.. stuff like that is an unheard of thing in most of not all other US states. I have faith you can accomplish a move IF you do all your research. 300k isn't a lot, but the rate 300k can disappear in CA is quicker than most of the US. Right now a big hurdle is finding a house and property in or close to your target area. Good buys sell so quick. Anyway brother, I wish you luck in the final decision. A lot of us guys salute you old school CA holdouts, we know it's rough. That state is gorgeous, but at the same time a massive pain in the ass for people like us.
Every 5 years or so we get a arsonist up highway 39 and surrounding area California is just ridiculous! My mom & I used to go out to each in Rancho (steer n stein) we could both get a steak diner for $20 now one plate is more. In n out 4 meals $20 now we can’t even get 4 burgers for that. Be careful in the rain people drive like idiots I’d love to see a class 11!
Just wondering If the compression is good on the engine in the 61 bug. Can't you just check the crank and cam and if the clearance is good, install new bearings and reseal. And check the fuel pump for internal leak. That might not cost too much. I have a 1600 single port engine in one of my cars, and it's okay on power, no race car but runs well and is dependable. Plus, it would be good video content. Anyway, take care.
yea we are going to do that too. either way....I am putting together the 40hp too. Then we can tear down this one and see why it failed. I think the rings went south Oil ring. failure my guess.
Consider a rebuild/restoration by way of individual donations. Example. You need rubber for windows. Send the information and the individual can purchase it and have it sent to you. No money out of your pocket. Mention the individual as a thank you.
That would be cool. We are also doing some small jobs on local peoples cars. Bay window front windshield section and another nose job. I am not sure how they will pan out view wise. then I will do others if it works out.
I bought a shed from somebody and they painted the inside with metal nonmetal paint and they did it when it was just above freezing and it won’t stop gassing off. The smell is awful even after six months. What should I do to fix it? I’ve already been heating it up inside up to 80 to 90° for days on end, but it still smells. The paint is still soft.
Yea I have considered that. but the laws here are pretty brutal for out of state commercial trucks. I think a lot of officers dont like the government either so they may not enforce them but it is a big risk. One of my buddies has all his similar trucks registered in AZ....cant get CA plates anymore so he did what he has to do..
A huge expense in Florida that seems to be completely out of control & unsustainable is Home Insurance. Never had a claim in over 25 years. The past 3 years it has increased by over $1000 every year. It’s not sustainable!! Everything has become too expensive.
I have heard that. especially within 50 mile of the coast. Hurricanes. all blame climate change. I am not sure what the REAL issue is or are they calling it political
Oh yea.....Was that the month that it rained almost every day. I recall a few months it rained and never stopped for at least a month back around then.....Was painting houses and we had no work. TERRIBLE....but necessary.
Borrow a couple hundred against your zillion dollar estate - buy a nice 7 mo. A year summer spot in OK or Tenn. or SC & buy classic car projects all summer - drag 'em back & make bank. 7 mo. There / 5 mo. In Cali during the cold. She will like the change in venue.
used parts build. I dont know if the rings were changed. I rewatched the video. This was suppose to be a backup engine. They were bad I am sure. Long story what happened to the engine to begin with.

Mike, I love your videos. Let’s get back to the Volkswagens though. You’re a wealth of knowledge.

I usually charge them under my carport after the review. Yea they can just catch fire. Especially the lithium non lifepo ones.
@@Mikefngarage those are just "decorative" lol film props!
Your Cal Bug idea sounds great Mike.
Thanks 👍only thing is WHEELS $$$$$ maybe I will be lucky enough to find some at a swap...
The $5,000 used car available today, was the $500 car available 25 years ago. That's how weak the dollar is. Just my opinion.
the money printer went wild in the last 4 years. Yup. also from the housing crisis in 2008.
Every 5 years or so we get a arsonist up highway 39 and surrounding area

I’d love to see a class 11!
Love to see some Ghia videos!
There was also a stair step vehicle registration increase in the gas tax law.
AZ shhhhhh

Would love to buy your caddy.
definitely selling it. just want to sort out the injection pump issue.
Im Available Sundays and Mondays....
Why does the truck have to be registered in CA? Register it in another state & drive it how you want.

No one in America, can live off the interest of 1M in a savings account these days. That’s how weak the dollar is.
yea need more than 5 million. Mutual funds can do good for growth but the income is where the problem is right now.
