Thanks for this. Followed your instructions and got a 22-plate Yaris with a completely flat battery up and running. The car is used most days but only very short distances so that's probably the cause. I used a Ring Automotive UltraBoost 1500A instead of a Noco since that's what a local Argos had in stock. It is overkill for this car (500A model would probably work) but we have a diesel with a larger engine, so it's useful for that. The Ring works similarly to the Noco with a polarity check and single button press to use. It also has a boost button for an extra bump but I didn’t require it. On connecting and boosting from the jump pack, the Yaris took a good minute to sort itself out before it was happy to drive off. Lots of low battery, brake errors, and “not ready to turn on” messages before being able to start normally. It used just over 30% of the charge on the jump pack so I expect it charged the 12v battery a bit.
Thanks for this very informative video. Wanted to buy a NocoBoost a while back but did not as I could see the leads are too short to ground it where Toyota recommends you on the left side of the engine. However seeing that you grounded it to the strut tower bolt and nothing happened.THANK YOU for this post. I won't be stranded again as I was and had to call roadside assistance to jump start
Thank you, sir. I am a new driver and the Yaris is my first car. I am still learning about cars, and your video has helped me a lot. Keep making these videos, who knows what other bad surprises are coming my way!
Thanks for showing how to use this thing. Just got one for 60 quid after watching this. Brilliant gadget and essential for any Yaris hybrid user! Seems durable, super safe and it’s worth carrying as a powerful flashlight and powerbank. Reduces 12v anxiety for a user of a car that is otherwise perfect!
Thanks Paul. Today I bought a Topdon BT200 battery tester and It gets rave reviews. However, in order to use it I need to know all the technical features of the battery which I can only do If I take off the back seat and then undo some nuts to remove it in order to note all the technical data written on the battery. After reading loads of adverse comment about the Yaris 12v battery issue, it seems that many thousands of Yaris cars were fitted with a particular battery that was manufactured in Turkey. I believe that a process of battery replacement under warranty is now under way, but getting individual Toyota franchises to admit that there maybe an issue is difficult.
I had the same problem on my 73 reg yaris and the AA man recommended their solar panel charger which plugs into the Eob socket. I'll let you know how I get on with this trickle charger once delivered from amazon.
Because the Yaris does not have to be driven to charge the 12 volt battery, any ideas how long it would need to be switched on for to fully recharge from flat once it has been switched on with a power pack. Thanks.
I thoroughly endorse the NOCO. I have the GB40 which is probably a bit of overkill, as the GB20 is more than up to the task. They really are as simple to use as you showed. In fact, the hardest part is getting the fuse box plastic cover off but I'm now an expert having had to do it a few times. I'd also recommend the optional hard case from NOCO which adds further protection.
What a carry on! Never have this hassle with my Honda civic 03 petrol 1.6. I have helped a mate with modern Toyota Auris with constant flat battery issues just because he only does short daily trips! They don't tell you that in showroom! Man on the moon and all that but I'll never be put over a barrel making me drive a hybrid daily for miles just to keep the battery happy! Absolutely ridiculous. 😱🤬
Nice one Paul, hopefully I'll never need it, but I'm off on my holiday soon for a couple of weeks & this has been playing on my mind a little even tho the lady at toyota said it'd be fine after two week none use.......Chinese for tea 😂
Thank you for this great little informative video ! I was wondering if the Noco GB50 (1500A) could be safely used instead of the GB20 ? my dealer only has the GB50 in stock. Thank you !
Yes you can! All your doing is supplying a 12 volt supply to boot a few relays and a computer into life It’s not that you’re starting an engine and need it for raw amps
@@paul_nwsxs Thank you very very much Paul, I'll get the GB50 from the dealer. 🙏 I like your TH-cam channel very much and hope you'll keep make more and more videos !

Your better charging the battery directly off the battery, there’s a video on the channel where I show how to make a loom for charging off a trickle charger, it’s not designed to charge off the terminal in the fuse box , I’m about to post a video about this 12 volt issue as my battery has just started to fail today after 21 months and 38777 miles But if you check 12 volt battery playlist all my testing and solutions are in there
Said to dealer I am tossing up top of the line Yaris for features, or cheapest petrol (we can still get petrol here) for longer life of 12 volt battery. He said all I need do for either car is disconnect battery before go away and car will always go when I come back after long trip (I am thinking 6 months). Is that true?
Hi Paul, i have a 2023 yaris hybrid design, do you think i should buy a Noco 20 booster charger or buy a better battery, and if so which one? i understand Yuasa batteries are good! many thanks Kevin. I do about 100 miles a weekbut with colder weather coming i want to be prepared!
I carry one just as a safety measure just in case I’ve used mine on other people’s vehicles I do about 500 miles a week so I don’t expect to have issues with my own car My dad only does about 100 miles a week and the only time he’s had any problems is when he was ill and not able to drive But I’ve rigged up a charging port in his car to leave it on a trickle charge if he thinks he’s not going to use his car for a long time period
@@paul_nwsxs funny how even the Toyota dealership said they know it’s an issue. And there are thousands of people complaining about the new batteries. They made the battery smaller. I should be able to not drive it everyday without worrying.
Is it bad for the battery if I jumpstart it regurarly? I mean once every 1 or 2 weeks. There are days when I don't use my car, or if I use I don't go too far, so the possibility that it goes flat is high.
Ps told dealer to day put to test see if goes flat after few days in only week old Yaris told him if does don't bother putting crap Toyota battery on it they been solved i find out if does go flat call RAC out tell him why y tell me solved

Or only a booster starter.

I assume it’s the same for the Prius also as they have pretty much the same system

Thanks for this! Nothing but issues with 2022 Yaris because of the terrible battery.
It’s nothing to do with the battery
You need to understand what happens to batteries and their chemistry make up when they are not used constantly

Any particular brand of screenwash you prefer using on your cars Paul? I’ve noticed some work better than others
I’m using carplan screen wash
I’ve tried others but
Carplan is a good price and has worked well for me for many years
Is it safe to connect black cable (ground) to the strut tower bolt instead of the left side of the engine as Toyota recommends?
Yes you are okay to use the strut bolts
I notice insurance companies are now offering insurance if you run out of power with a flat battery with an EV.
Up go the premiums.
You could have shown how you got in the locked car the access the bonnet release

This video will show how to access the car
thank you for the demonstration👍
I think it's the same engine as the Yaris Cross, right?
Yes exactly the same engine and hybrid system
Why is all these batteries going flat, is it because of user error and not selecting the charge mode while using the engine, is this correct 😮
Great video I’ve saved this in case this ever happens.
