I want to know what you do with the copper after you have melted into bricks? Do scrap yards take the bricks or do you sell to people doing copper casting?
I recently found an old aluminium window frame, melted it down in my 18 inch cast iron pan(I’m not sure entirely what it actually is I just found it at a charity shop) over a bonfire and it is just as satisfying as this
Wanted to see what happens if you put a little ascorbic acid in the water that the copper got cooled in, because it has anti-oxidant properties. Look up ascorbic acid + copper sulphate.
Thats what you saw him doing by skimming the surface of the molten copper. The impurities float on the top and you skim it off. To refine it even more pure I've heard you need to add borax or something. I'm an idiot so what do I know.
Hey mate, where are you from? Just curious. Good job with the melt. I liked watching you chopping the larger pieces in that machine you have. New sub. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘
Cool video ! Does quenching a hot ingot do any harm? Having worked with lots of copper wire and pipe and knowing how it work-hardens if flexed more than a few times, I kind of have this gut feeling that quenching to rapid-cool isn't really a great thing to do. And ... that is an AWESOME shredding machine !
yes , those are proper full size mans ingots, not like other youtube melters making puny 1 or 2 kg ingots. the biggest ive managed is just over 5kg. that mould is a beauty , hope to get to this level eventually.
According to the February 2021 values, 1kg of copper is 7.18 euro which means he just got 378.70 euro by melting some old metals. The more you know! I believe people won’t give away old copper items or materials easily though as many know it is worth quite a lot when sold to the right guy.
he didnt GET anything by melting it and changing its shape, he already had it and its value before he did anything.the melting costs time and money and does not add any scrap value
Great example of how much quality materials would otherwise be thrown in the trash. Nice haul. But I'm not getting why you put the copper in the water? I know it's hot. Learned this from dad who was an industrial arts teacher
Curiosity. Why is he brave? It's not hot. Dangerous is wearing gloves to feed the shredder. Get that glove caught on a snag on the copper and good luck getting your hand or whole arm back.. just saying I've seen similar happen on both a lathe and a drill press. On a similar note. Is horrible for the clean up guy.

For example if one man poops the other man can make a toxic bomb and throw the bomb on the one man's face. 😤 I agree with your quote.

Where did you get all the scrap?
Most likely frm a reno site I think? Cus it's hard to get all these scrap wires and pipes
Your ingots cant be pure copper, all that pipe work you put in was full of soldered joints.

No. That slag is the unburnable stuff, sand, ash, etc. the solder melts at lower temp than the copper so the ingots will be mixed. Not pure
stupid question, but dissolving these things in your garden, does not release toxic substances or anything else for the environment? thanks
Super cool!

How does that shredder do on #1 wire? I ask because I don't like feeding wire into the crucible. Folded, tied or whatever it's hard on the hands.
