Ive been trying to change my vocabulary about it, its not art, it's generated images. And thats fine, because thats what it is. Once you give it the term 'art' people think about it more emotionally, and its not an emotional tool. It's just a tool.
I do agree, I think generated images is a more fitting description. I think people will make an argument that “art” is such a a broad term that it still lives under that, but its sub-category is definitely generated images, and like I said in the video, it doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest. I find it boring and lazy. i respect people who spend time to learn a craft, and put real effort, thought and care into their work. Turning a sentence into a picture is a novel trick, but I don’t personally think that takes much effort or imagination.
My take on this premise. A person is driven mad trying to actually prove there is evil in their home. They take videos of the strange things that happen but no one believes them because everything is fake these days. Like a reverse boy who cried wolf
As someone that is working on a horror film about AI taking over the work of artists: I took note of this factor for sure lol like…. Im gonna get creative with mirrors on set now
seeing how AI fairs on its own makes me feel a little better to know it still has a long way to go in replacing us, i wont start worrying just yet but it is crazy how AI is being pushed on every app, even when its not really needed/adds anything
It's literally everywhere which is so stressful. Spotify even got rid of their person for music genres just to tell me I like Swedish Grandma Pop or whatever in Spotify wrapped. Big yikes. And AI just makes everything worse.
the amount of damage generative ai does to the environment is not talked about enough in the discourse surrounding it. like regardless of how it looks, we really do not need to start using even more stuff that destroys our planet than we already are 💀
I'm curious if the generative ai functions in programmes like premiere pro and photoshop have similar effects on the environment too. I wanna see more talk about that!
I feel like the only really good use for ai is within healthcare, because there are so many more advancements it can produce to make peoples lives easier. All the ai art or ai WITH art just seems like a step back for humanity with too little exceptions to make it worth it.
@@whatevername4873 the type of AI used here (generative AI) vs what is used for diagnosis (deep learning) is a different type of AI with the later not having the same issues with hallucinating information. this reminds me a lot of noodle's videos ranting about 60fps AI interpolation being done to animation. 60fps interpolation was promoted for things like sports and racing, so something like a car race filmed in 30fps could be interpolated into 60 and it would still look pretty smooth. so its intended purpose was for live action things that are pretty fast-paced. but then EVERYONE suddenly decided that they need to add it to cartoons that were animated at 24fps and rendered at 30, and it causes some really gross and stilted looking animation and yet you'll see people in the comments section like "wow this looks so good"????? noodles vid was from a few years ago but people still do this and now it's happening to official streaming sites, for example the boondocks on hbo max (which was animated mostly on twos and even threes) now has this 60fps smear all over it and its made it impossible for me to watch, and its literally destroying the preservation of art and artistic intent. so it seems like something like ai-generated frames is something like interpolation which CAN be a useful tool, if used correctly. it seemed to work well for still shots and backgrounds, but dear god those added faces 😭😭😭 very interesting video peej 👍👍
Oh man, ok so I've been on a quest to find a good site to watch full metal alchemist (legally of course) and it's such an issue between artifacting, and english subtitles just being awful sometimes or it's in a weird ratio and things qre cut off. Anyways this made me realize that soon I may also be competing with AI generated fma clips like how would I ever know what the original release had in it
@@whatevername4873 its kinda crazy to say but its possible that the best preservations of anime and cartoons, besides physical media, might be illegal streaming sites. the weird ratio thing is what happened to the simpsons moving to disney+ and all those early seasons being stretched into 16:9 and fully ruining jokes
I'm a graphic designer and photographer. I utilize AI sometimes for out of focus backgrounds, expanding some images, and removing noise from photographs. I also like to use it sometimes for ideas. Hate it when it's used on people, it's so creepy. But I think it can be a useful tool, but still needs a human touch.
I've loved the work of Aardman, Quentin Blake, and Beatrix Potter since childhood, and I've been drawing and creating my own characters since childhood, so "AI art" absolutely baffles and annoys me. It is not in any way "art" if you haven't physically created it yourself with your own hands (or feet or mouth). You need to hold the paintbrush or pen, or mould the clay, or carve the wood, etc. You need to feel what you're creating on the inside too, because it's a way to express yourself and your individuality. I have a little guy I created years ago; I think I was about 12 when I started drawing him. He's unique to me, and I've based other characters on him, so he's like a template, and I've recently realised that's my style. Everyone develops their own style naturally after a while, even if you start out tracing or copying what's already out there (I did from books), but you can't have a unique you-ness in your art if it's typing in a few words to a generator and getting some shoddy images back. And this was me putting it very politely lol. I could've said worse. Anyway, the video was great to watch. The results you got were kinda freaky tbh lol.
beyond all the moral arguments, theres just something taking an image of you and creating something thats Not You But Looks Like You And Learned From You thats so... existentially horrifying. really interesting experiment though!
God I hate the Ai shiney look. The only useful thing i've used it removing things in photoshop to save time clonestamping. All the Ai guff i see online and on adobe stock is awful.
i agree with all your points, and while so much of the AI bits gave me the heebie jeebies, there's a part of me that wants that ending shimmy to be a cursed channel point redemption >:)
still just gna note that AI is incredibly energy-intensive and the power grids of the world are currently not large enough to sustain it, and neither is the environment. the money behind AI doesn't care about the environment, and the environment will suffer while they demand to be able to advance their AIs. Also, please don't forget the sweatshops around the world that are used to do the manual categorising of information, and input of physical media into the computer systems. Regardless of the ethics of AI generated content, the environmental impact is a huge worry.
Ai is so off-putting. Would be kinda interesting to put the ai generated parts back in and ask it to extend the ai video. Feel like it would be cursed²
I realize you're an artist, but hasn't art always also had to reflect about the cost and repercussions of its making? I'm surprised and slightly confused that you're skipping over the whole aspect of environmental destruction and pollution, which - in addition to using people's work without permission - seems like the main huge problem with generative AI

I love this comment, it makes so much sense. We don't call stock imagery art, even though it is much more of an art then AI generated imagery
The mirror AI could genuinely be part of a horror movie about AI

It's not that it isn't adding anything, it's flat out taking away from it.
It's literally everywhere which is so stressful. Spotify even got rid of their person for music genres just to tell me I like Swedish Grandma Pop or whatever in Spotify wrapped. Big yikes. And AI just makes everything worse.
the amount of footage editing youd have to do to clean up ai slop...its like you might as well just film it and get it right
the ai clip of you turning to the mirror genuinely gave me the creeps
I wonder if the random shimmies are from AIs training on a ton of people doing tiktok dances??

you know those games that you have to "let people in" (like papers please) and some of them are clearly NOT people...? that is what this ai is like.
lol yeah, like that one game. i think it's called "not my neighbor".

I disagree with this a lot simply because of the hallucinations. There should be zero chance of ever diagnosing someone totally in correctly.

what sort of advancements does ai do in healthcare? like potential for eliminating human error/bias in diagnosis, or..?
Thank you for saying this
This is main channel video content to me

what's with ai creating shimmies out of nothing

The one of Fuji yawning creeped me out the most
this made me laugh hysterically, i needed that!
really interesting experiment
Glad you looked into this via a fun creative project!

adobe should be ashamed that their stock images are full of AI slop.
haha the mirror shot is scary
Wow I feel like part of an elite secret group here

AI people are so terrifying the eyes and mouth movements are sooooo off
lol, it turned you into young Ted Danson at 8:12
