    This might be dating me but, I remember a book of kits called Warriors and Priests of the Realms which had an entry on The Riders of Eturel that would have been an awesome Paladin kit. Anyone else remember those old books?

    "Zariel, thou hatred has you furious against the chaos, I see nothing but the chaos of your making." Set widen his smile.
    Floating stones rearrange into a sphere of earthen runes. Each written in chaotic magicks.
    "Time and Fate may be cruel." Set mourns, "But Elturel's fall is crueler than I would permit in my current station."
    The sphere glow and shape the magical energies. The image...
    "Destruction shall claim Avernus, as it consume all in its wake. Not even the mighty Zariel will escape it." The tall man's jaw unhinges and resets back into place. His low growl echoes among his silent library of stone.
    . . . Greeting the horror is the massive red moon.
    "For now, all shall continue as they are. And I to witness the lives in my journey." Set laughs. "The show must go on. I, The Actor, has been chosen for a role. Now... which name shall I chose for this?"

    They really need to improve their training for those Priest's, Clerics, & Paladins. They all seem to fall short in the resolve category. It's not like Zariel is a Falxugon or anything. Given her status in the nine hells, she should be on a top 10 most wanted list in most churches and temples.

    I haven't found lore videos this well done. Thank you for the incredible effort you've clearly put in. I've subscribed just for this and the nine hells series, since I'm running Descent right now, but skimming through your other videos I'm realizing how much better these videos are than most on yt. I actually rarely comment, but wanted to thank you personally. Really hoping you will finish these series. Thank you!

    Zariel made the ultimate sacrifice. She knew that the demons could eventually win. So sacrificed herself to lead the devils in the fight.
    Obviously this has corrupted her and she's made bad decisions. But her sword is her out.
    She may find redempgion in the end.

      @@RichesandLiches Yes it's really noticable how much effort you put into *everything* really. So I've played around with an EQ a little. I figured a notch at ~550-600Hz with -9dB and Q=2 did a LOT for intelligibility.
      I also added a slight high-pass around 180Hz to remove some more of the deeper low-end, although that might as well be personal preference here.

    So are the adventurers here characters you have directly created, or did you run the adventure with friends and are now chronicling it with the intermingled canon (As Baldur's Gate III did cement one of the endings of the module as noncanonical, without spoiling things for the other listeners.)

    In my honest opinion, the gods of the Upper Planes are definitely partly at fault here. They were ready to let one of the most devoted cities on the Sword Coast fall to hordes of undead, and Torm and the other gods worshiped by Elturel citizens basically just stood idly by as Zariel corrupted Kreeg. I know gods can't directly intervene in the Material Plane, but they can send visions or act through powerful mortal agents like high-level clerics and paladins, and high-level clerics in this game can call for help from more powerful servants of their deities.

    • @ravendelacour1917
      @ravendelacour1917 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@sagemagus126 It's a rinse and repeat of Asmodeus's backstory. A former Celestial who started getting things done and the Celestial bureaucracy going, "Whoa Nelly. Let's not be too rash. Let's consider things on our safe mountain aerie for a few centuries while the worlds beneath us burn instead." In response, the former Celestial answers back to their self-righteous brethren, "What are you even for?"
      No wonder Asmodeus gave her a job. He sympathized.

    • @sagemagus126
      @sagemagus126 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ravendelacour1917 i never heard that before. Asmodeus kinda evolved from angel into his role because of a demand for rules and justice. The other angels just didn't like his evolving appearance and evolving role. Asmodeus' evolution birthed the pact primeval, almost analogous to Singapore being ejected out of Malaysia like exile

    • @ravendelacour1917
      @ravendelacour1917 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@sagemagus126 @sagemagus126 Asmodeus in the early stages was a Celestial actually enforcing the rules over the early iteration of reality. In the beginning times, demons corrupted mortals to commit sins so the demons could get their souls. The young Celestials thought making rules against sin would mean mortals would just stop sinning. Turns out no, mortals will sin if there's no consequences. So they tasked Asmodeus and his people to punish sinners and Asmodeus was quite good at punishing people. Then Celestials found seeing the torment and torture of the sinning souls harshed their buzz and demanded Asmodeus do it out of sight in what would become the Hells. At this point Asmodeus started corrupting mortal souls himself because that would take them away from the demons much more effectively and by enslaving them himself, Asmodeus could ensure the souls were being used for what he considered positive aims. The Celestial found out about that, realized that the rules Asmodeus helped write totally allowed that and have been pissy but hands off about Hell ever since.
      In his mind, Asmodeus is totally the good guy and Zariel is now his willing disciple in that aim.

    Right at the beginning: doesn’t BG3 take place after DiA, not before as is suggested? I thought the tieflings in BG3 were refugees from being kicked out of Elturel due to racism caused by the whole Avernus thing.

    I feel like most of these people would have cause to dispute the contract. How can he put someone else's soul in there? Seems contrary to most of the lore that requires all parties to agree.

    • @bcfb21
      @bcfb21 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      If I had to guess it has something to do with the concept of a ruler owning someone. I don’t know if you played bg3 but a similar thing happened to karlach. I don’t know if these are retcons or the way things are gonna be in faerun going forward. I sort of understand the logic. If you give someone power over you maybe that has some innate magical meaning. Or maybe it has to do with the creed resolute. Maybe it’s written somewhere on the last page in invisible ink that if you sign your name you give up your soul.

    This is not how the story of Descent into Avernus was written. Thavius didn't have good intentions choosing the lesser of two evils. Thavius was actually jealous of High Rider Dhelt and plotted his assassination, which failed and was transported to Barovia and returning a vampire. When High Rider Dhelt returned a vampire, Thavius was unable to deal with Dhelt seeking justice, now in vampiric means. So that's when Thavius sought out Zariel
