Another way to sidechain (or at least pump tona kick) is a master compressor with 100 sustain, 0 attack,100 ratio, 100 lvl or 303 vinyl sim with all at 0 and comp at 100, play the melodic part at low level and the kick at high level, this should achieve a rough sidechain effect
Of course. This is the usual way of doing a similar thing, and it is the only way to do it in a live setting. However while this video focuses only on simple sidechained/pumping sort of sound, this basic technique has more uses. Besides possible very dramatic pumping effects, you can also split audio using isolator into two bands, duck only the parts you want, and combine the bands back together, making the room for the kick. Or you can first multiply your sample with the kick drum pattern and then do the sidechain, ending up with a ringmod sound along with the pump. Or you can do the inverse -- play some sound only when the trigger hits. I'm sure it has more uses I can't think of :) It's not for everyone though, for most cases the oldschool way is all you need
Witness the sheer audio sorcery at play here- I appreciate you sharing your craftsmanship. Didnt realise this sort of onboard gating / sidechain was possible Reminds me of the excitement in learning compression/ ducking that was achievable when getting creative with settings in the old gen of mpcs.
Roland's employees have to watch this video before and after work to understand the pain their users have
Ingenious and unorthodox approach. Creative solutions like this one are the unseen first element of Hip Hop.
Using DC offset with sample multiplication is a very smart trick. Thanks for this!!
Wow. Fkn wow. That’s wild. Brilliant work sir! 🤯🤯🤯
You're most welcome!

Vinyl sim at 1000 level does the same thing
It does not
