      Gerrard was the only one to get in world XI's, UEFA all time XI's and got the most ballon d'or nominations, Scholes couldn't even get in the England team over him simple as that.

      Egotistical nonsense. The current generation is the greatest generation of England players. Even Sven said the current generation is better than the golden generation he managed. Yes people know the legendary names of the golden generation, but forget that golden generation lack major depth in quality and outside of 14 players the rest of the England players were 2nd division level talent by today’s standards. They also don’t mention that teams like France, Italy, Brazil, Netherlands, Portugal, Argentina and Spain had much better players.
      The current generation are the second most successful England generation outside of the 1966 team with 2 semifinals and 1 final in senior football. Had unprecedented success for any nation at youth level with 2 youth World Cup and 4 youth euros wins in just 6 years. The current generation are closer to the best teams in talent than the golden generation was and in terms of depth of talent the current generation is far superior with 60 players who can play at international football level. Not only are England’s back up players are in massive European clubs like Tomori, Smalling, Abraham, Sancho and Dier, but big nations are stealing English kids because they England have so much talent. Musiala, the Nmecha brothers in Germany, Frimpong in Holland, Robinson, Musah and Balogun in the USA, Broja for Albania, Fabio Carvalho for Portugal, half the Nigeria team is English kids and Michael Olise who was born and raised in England playing France. Rio can’t handle that England pride better generation of players after his generation.

    • @rafiu7660
      @rafiu7660 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Teams today are outstanding too. Spain dominance came towards the end of the Golden Generation (Beckham and Owens weren’t at their prime in 2008); Portugal’s current team is better than back then; Italy yes back then was better; France had a stacked team during the golden generation but their current team may be more successful and in terms of talent the teams are not far off each other; Brazil doesn’t have the players that they once had but they might still be the most talented national team currently; Germany may have a better team now then back then. Now add to that teams like Belgium and Croatia which back then didn’t make much noise, plus teams from around the world being better too whether it be the big teams with Argentina’s Messi, or even smaller footballing nations like South Korea with Son, Egypt with Salah or Senegal with Mane; football is more global now and the competition is higher now than ever before. Of course it was difficult to win during the Golden Generation, but it surely isn’t easy to win now.

    Id still take Neville, he seriously underrated and its probably to do with his own self depreciation. Great tackler, fast, very good crossing ability and knew exactly when to overlap or when to tuck in and he would run all day for you.
    I like Kyle walker dont get me wrong, I would just prefer Neville slightly more

    • @damiena341
      @damiena341 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Neville was not fast compared to Walker. Also an average dribbler and poor in attack. Crossing and defending yeah. If you could combine both players you would have a near perfect Right Back.

    • @IIDynamoDuckII
      @IIDynamoDuckII 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @damiena341 ah he was faster than you would think, he just had a awkward looking run, nowhere near as fast as Walker, Walker is rapid. I can't even remember Neville trying to dribble, thought he kept it nice and simple with a quick pass or a cross. Yes, I'd agree a combination of both would be quite the player.
      But what I always say in defence of Neville is, most people consider Denis Irwin as one of the best LB's in prem history (though I think Ashley Cole edges it for me) but Denis was a RB, he only played on the left because Neville was on the right

    • @nathanconnolly395

      @@IIDynamoDuckII Literally not true Dennis Irwin wasn't a left back or a right back he was a full back he could play on the left and right equally as good the reason he played on the left was because United had Phil and Gary phil was a left back gary a right back gary was better than phil so Irwin played on the left if Phil was better than Gary Irwin would have played on the right neither of them was better than Irwin not even close.

    • @IIDynamoDuckII
      @IIDynamoDuckII 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @nathanconnolly395 yes, I know all that, but Denis's preferred side was the right, and as good as he was on the left, he was better on his right, if Gary was no where near his level then Denis would have just played there and the would have got someone else for the left. I think Denis is overall the better player no doubt but Gary was good too, there wasn't a million miles between them

    • @fanueltullu1566
      @fanueltullu1566 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Exactly. Except his speed Walker is below the average Right backs in every parameter. He can't play football, his decisions are very funny, he can't defend players who hold the ball and can dribble but not run. The fact Walker played for City & the fact that he achieved everything with them eventhough he is the least contributor has tricked everyone to consider Walker as a good right back. Even Arnold is a much better RB than Walker. Walker can't defend well and can't attack almost at all. He only can hold fast forwards just because of his running. He is a runner than a footballer. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

For me football has evolved a lot I think one aspect players should focus on is following all the structures/ plans / tactics etc a team plays with they also should think and create or challenge the meta and do something new.

      100% Kane can’t run with the ball he’s too slow and the only reason he’s scored more England goals than Rooney is because they’ve been penalties. He’s scored 64 goals and 21 of them are penalties. Rooney 53 goals and 7 of them penalties. Take the penalties away and Rooney has more goals.

    The problem with the golden generation was the midfield
    It was a case of squeezing the most talented big name players we had onto the pitch based entirely on club form irrespective of their consistent under achievement and lack of balance in an England shirt
    Gerrard and Lampard was a 9/10 combo *on paper* but in reality it worked more like a 7/10.
    After that became obvious (pretty quickly) we should’ve been looking for alternative combinations that could get us an 8/10 or better (for example gerrard and scholes as one example to try). Instead every new manager that came just picked the same team and zero lessons were learnt that the best team is the one with the most balance and chemistry, not the team with the most individually good players

    On paper Rio is absolutely spot on, very hard to justify replacing any of those players.
    The problem is the balance of the team was completely wrong. We could have done with a Saka back then rather than four guys who all wanted to play central midfield.
    We could do with a Scholes or Gerrard right now.
