You got right! He could sing his songs so wonderfully and you never get tired of hearing a n L.V. tune. Now when it comes to someone else's song...well. Luther Vandross can bring a new dynamic to anybody else's song. In other words, he can outsing a song of anyone else's. Sorry Sam, but Luther put some life into his song.
I listened to Sam Cook and he was good but Luther was SO much better. I know he has been gone for almost 8 years but no one since has come close to his level. Luther has always been and will always be my favorite singer. RIP sweet Luther. You are missed every second of everyday.
I remember seeing this as a child smh, Luther absolutely killed his version. Not comparing it to Sam Cooke's because his is classic, but this too is classic
Y'all know he have a brother who have the same voice Go to Luther funeral and listen his family's singing and you hear his brother so much like his(Luther)
Luther's voice made that place seem like a classic Colosseum or even a stadium. He told the whole story, no point in comparing this was Luther's version!
I agree with Steve Harvey that Luther was one of the greatest singers who lived, and this is a great rendition of a classic, but SAM COOKE is THE greatest singer who ever lived! Listen to WONDERFUL by SAM COOKE and THE SOUL STIRRERS and tell me who is the best. I do miss Luther,though.R.I.P.
PREACH!! PREACH!! Luther has NEVER sang a bad song in his life and he absolutely KILLED this song! Luther could sing the theme to the old TV shoW The Facts of Life and make it sound GREAT!! This man could sing about DOG SHIT and make it sound GREAT!
Nothing is better than the original (Sam Cooke), but I never mind hearing Luther sing anything! I so wish he was still here with us today. We don't get much of this kind of singing anymore :(
I never thought growing up listening to my parents music and the blues would stick with me. I listen to my old school jams 70,80,90 Blues more so now than today's rap music I don't like most of it. BLUES AND OLD SCHOOL ALL THE WAY
I was about to hate on Luther thinking it wouldn't sound right with him singing this song... I know, slap me. Love you, Luther. Love you, Sam Cooke. Love you, Al Greene.
who really care who he loved-----his singing is a gift from God and another generation where singers (soul) was often overlooked, but Luther was something else...He sang from his heart and change the songs to his voice and his singing style......thank u for beautiful music
Luther Vandross can sing any song. I've sung his songs in front of people. I have sickle cell disease and I pray the words of this song someday ring true. I have had so many painful days and sleepless painful nights. The doctors don't help. This pain is excruciating and nerve wracking. My family and friends can't understand. I pray God does male a change. We have no one else.
dblkrailfan hey! I'm a fellow warrior as well. Please join the sickle cell unite group on Facebook. We definitely understand what you go through. Keep your head up Hun.
Luther OWNED this song that night, and pretty much everyone who has attempted to sing it since. I will give honorable mentions to Sam Cooke, Patti LaBelle, and Al Green.
You are absolutely spot on. Luther was the man. He had a god given talent and the lord giveth and the lord taketh away. Sadly. Always loved luther and his choices in music were timeless.
It amazes me that someone who doesn't understand the depth of history, and the many facets that comprise it and allow us to be open to the vastness of songs, poems, speeches, and generational stories that have s
Awesome rendition of this classic. More updated version i love it Luther is the man. If you prefer the original version check out Otis Redding back in the day he was as bad as Sam and Al.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I still think that David Brown's AI Season 4 audition is one of the best I have ever heard of this song.
The times were so different. I don't think ANYONE can emulate the FEELING Sam Cooke put into this song, at the TIME he sang it. HE, FELT, DIFFERENT. One, may, imitate his sound, but NOT that HEART!
Gone way too soon, like Michael and Whitney. A great rendition of this song, and of course like Sean Connery, Sam Cooke is the James Bond of this song, but you can't deny Luther his due, he did his thing with it, and it sounds like heaven to me.
How is it possible that people dislike performances of artists like this one. Artists who are consagrated, who have nothing to prove. If you don't like it don't hear it but at least respect. I don't like Justin Bieber or other performers so I simply don't waste my time disliking or listening to it.
What an excellent version of this song..Change as gonna come...Beautifully song by the late Luther Vandross with his remarkable vocals... But whom could have expected anything less.
Growing up listening to Luther Vandross Music was awesome ? When I listen today it sound like he just wrote it yesterday? One of the Greatest Musician I feel deeply for and truly love and respect his music. There can only be One Luther Vand ross with all the Love and support thank you for giving and sharing your excellent talent to the whole universe with all the same respect.
I am the first to admit to not being a huge fan of Luther, more of a casual liking of his music but this version of the song is absolutely phenomenal. Luther makes singing look as easy as merely speaking for us mortals, he shows huge emotion and sings with a real sense of feeling the pain within the lyrics, truly outstanding and the duet with him and Sam Cook would be something to behold!!
Why do we always have to argue about which version is better? If you love good music you will appreciate both Luther and Sam's version and most of the other versions too. It's a great song which lends itself to multiple interpretations.
luther is so awsome how can't ya not like all he sings .what a loss for music and the deep ness he could get thier i never heard him do this but love the song algreens is super and aaron neville to awsome. so sorry lost him in my prayers always and his loved one alway so
This is Sam Cooke's song and he said out of his own mouth that Otis Redding's version is the best version of it he's ever heard. I love Sam's version but I'd agree with him. Otis' version just has soooo much feeling and pain in it. Hands down the best.
Love Luther Teddy Pendergrass ,major jhon Lee Harris ,Bobby Womack ,al green ,Tony Clark,Otis Redding ,billy Paul ,bill withers ,William devaugn But Sam Cooke is the greatest soul vocalist in history hands down no contest No one can compare with the real deal The original Sam Cooke Sam voice is sweet like honey as smooth as velvet so ,haunting ,moving no other singer, artist ,performer in the history comes anywhere close to the original

OH MY LORD I LOVE THIS RENDITION OF A CHANGE'S GONNA COME REST IN PEACE LUTHER .
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Luther could NEVER do a bad version of any song!!!!!!

I can feel this in my soul. Nobody sings like Luther, he could sing the Alphabets, and make you feel it!
Luther is one of the most amazing voices of the last century........clear and perfect.
He was gifted with such a glorious voice. Beautiful rendition of a difficult song to sing properly. RIP Luther.
I listened to Sam Cook and he was good but Luther was SO much better. I know he has been gone for almost 8 years but no one since has come close to his level. Luther has always been and will always be my favorite singer. RIP sweet Luther. You are missed every second of everyday.
Luther man oh man we've lost a great talent. A God giving talent. The BEST vocalist of my time. May you rest in peace BROTHER.

There wasn't anything Luther COULDN'T sing!!
Presumably, the 17 people who disliked this stellar performance have checked themselves into an asylum for the criminally DEAF!!
Only just discovered this and have watched it at least 50 times. Absolutely criminal that this version isn’t available to buy. SENSATIONAL!!!
Luther mastered the baritone voice
The smoothness in which he did it is amazing!!!!!!
Fabulous version of the classic. What a voice. RIP.
Nothing is better than the original (Sam Cooke), but I never mind hearing Luther sing anything! I so wish he was still here with us today. We don't get much of this kind of singing anymore :(
You are simply not human if you dont love this version.

BLUES AND OLD SCHOOL ALL THE WAY
In my mind, THE SINGLE MOST TALENTED MALE SINGER EVER! EVER! EVER!
I think that Luther being gay brings meaning to this song in a manner no one else but Luther could deliver.
Sam Cooke & Luther Vandross: best soul artists (in my opinion at least)
Let it be known by all: Luther Vandross is the geatest male vocalist in history!
10.22.16 my dad passed at 88 every time I hear a song like this its hurts

I can't believe there are 100 people breathing who don't like this
The LORD ALMIGHTY is REAL and WONDERFUL, HE gave different talent to every HUMAN!
Anthony Hamilton I think gave one of the most powerful delivery's!!!
who really care who he loved-----his singing is a gift from God and another generation where singers (soul) was often overlooked, but Luther was something else...He sang from his heart and change the songs to his voice and his singing style......thank u for beautiful music

true showmanship of a artist, the man could take a song a paint a picture of his own everytime he sung someone elses song
My mom use too play me luther vandross as a little boy and I now share him with my kids.
Luther OWNED this song that night, and pretty much everyone who has attempted to sing it since. I will give honorable mentions to Sam Cooke, Patti LaBelle, and Al Green.

4 years old when Sam Cooke released this song. 2021 and still present.

Luther was just damn too fine in this vid!
I really miss him.
Luther is good but no one can sing this song like MR SOUL
I surprised that this video has only one hundred thousand views above my million.
