It’s crazy how much the Marine Corps changes from generation to generation, decade to decade. A lot of shit obviously stays the same, but it’s so weird seeing footage from the beginning of your enlistment towards the end
it's so rapid now, too. For the last 20 or so years. 1969: an M16, green cotton sling or black nylon silent sling 1983: an M16, green cotton sling/black nylon silent sling 1986: mostly M16A2s now, wooo, still green cotton sling/black nylon silent sling 1997: M16A4s on occasion, woo, 3 point slings! WOOOOOOOOOOOO 2003: M16A4s with literally any optic you can get ahold of lmao, green cotton, nylon black, and 3 point slings 2006: TA31F ACO on M16A4s, green cotton/nylon black/3 point 2011: M27 IAR, SDO/RMR, 2 point vickers sling issued for the first time on a large scale, M4s for squad leaders around this time, machinegunners get M249 and riflemen lose it over time. Some time around here, the RCO (PVQ-31A for M16 and PVQ-31B for M4) is adopted. The SDO, because of M249, has two BDCs in it, for a 20.5" and a 16.3" barrel because barrel swaps. this is notable later 2017: Gen 3 MCT windowed PMAG, M855A1 adopted. In this period to present, you see: M38 SDMR (2.5-8x leupold mk4 mrt ts30a2) M27 with M7 RCOs. Those silly little two BDC reticles are now replacing every normal RCO in the Marine Corps slowly because they're rifle-blind. M4/M27 are compensated with what was originally the 249's shorter barrel's BDC, and M16A4 is compensated with the 20" from the M249's longer barrel option. So now everybody slowly gets 4x RCOs with the SDO's reticle basically. M16A4s with H6 buffer kits and collapsing M4 stocks grow increasingly common. As of 2021, both Parris Island and San Diego give them to recruits in great numbers. Until the tanker units were disbanded, they were a large user of these "tanker M16A4s" or "M16A5s" or whatever you want to call them. The SCO 1-8x VCOG is adopted for infantrymen. You see it on M16A4s and M4s and M27s and everywhere. As it stands now, there's a TON of variation in USMC rifles as issued. More than ever before, I'd say. You've got: M4s with: M7 RCO, the chevron PVQ-31B, the VCOG. M203s, M320s, nothing. KAC NT4 suppressors, A2 flash hiders. PEQ15s and PEQ16s depending on unit. M4A1s with the same as above in some units, and in others, clamp on quad rails that extend beyond the front sight base. Recon seems to love these, a ton of their rifles are like this. M4A1s are full auto. M27s with M7 RCO, the SDO, the SCO, PEQ16s, KAT NT4 suppressors sometimes. M38s, which are basically just M27s with a different optic and given to... honestly, I don't remember. designated marksmen or sniper spotters or something like that. whatever. M16A4s with M7 RCOs, or PVQ-31A normal original chevron RCOs, or even TA31F ACOs if they're still around, or SCOs, with PEQ15s or 16s depending on unit. M203s sometimes, usually not. I don't think we've ever fielded four different main rifles before.
In Vietnam they threw millions of dollars worth of helicopters into the ocean to make space for refugees on the ship. I'm sure a few bullet casings won't matter.
Why wouldn't they just sweep it into the ocean? Its a small amount of brass in reality... If you are thinking that it would save money to recycle it, it doesn't. Its the govt, and all the red tape that would be involved trying to recycle it, it costs less and involves less resources to just make fresh virgin brass.
Silly question form a non american: Who decides to get a underbarrel grenade launcher and who not or different gloves scopes or guns some have m16 others have m4 m240 m249 i m curious
It's based on their specific MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) which determines if they are a rifleman vs. a grenadier, or an automatic riflemen etc.
bower31 Theres no real MOS for grenadiers, for Marines they would be 0311 Riflemen and would have to qualify with the launchers through a course. Afterwards it is up to those in command to who get assigned the job/B Billet
Nice camera work and editing. But why didn't you show the targets after they shot them? I just shot a similar drill and put up my video- but I show my targets at the end... (They're Marines, so we can probably safely assume they hit their targets, but I still want to see...)
Kind've a unique experience when you think about it. Doing shooting drills on a boat in the middle of the ocean...
Nothing like the Marine Corps of the sixties but still our Corps. SemperFi
It’s better!

Wonder what they do with all the spent brass. Surely they don't sweep it into the ocean.
They probably do

I'm pretty sure he's moreso referring to the environment rather than monetary costs...
What's the purpose of the 550 cord wrapped around the acog mount?
insurance....should your Acog/PEQ fall off and it's lost you will be NJP'd for losing serialized equipment
Makes sense, thanks for the info.

Why are they not shooting in 3 round Burst also and also with double tap (rapid fire mode) in single fire and 3 sound bursts?
You don't shoot a standard infantry rifle in 3 round burst or full auto. It's not a video game or movie
Shooting on 3 round burst it’s not accurate at all, and they only carry 30 rounds on the magazine so it’s not a good option
How much can you carry?
why is there 550 paracord on some of the rifles?
Funni Asian Man to keep the ACOG sight in place and prevent from falling.
