I love how Shang Tsung here is made both intimidating, yet a bit vulnerable, you can really tell in some moments that he's really pinned down and not always he has a snarky comeback line or a clever plan to get him out of here. It is a nice change from almost indestructuble presence in MK11 (Even though we all love watching him stepping into every fight talking like he've already won)
It's a little sad that he says he prefers dying to what Liu Kang did to him. Honestly, Liu Kang could have done better. Given him a purpose instead of making him a homeless rat.

This Shang Tsung is probably the most perfect Shang Tsung ever... the attention to detail in his facial reactions, and the voice by Alan Lee is top notch. It exactly sounds like Hiroyuki Tagawa.
At least Cary Togawa will be forever immortalized in MK11, so will the actors from the movie that reprised their roles as Raiden, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade.
Cary Tagawa is a very high bar to clear in portraying Shang as a live action and voice actor. Kudos to Alan Lee for matching that vibe to near perfection in the game

Damn dude literally 90% of the cast are straight up good guys now. Seeing Mileena, Rain, Tanya, Reptile and Baraka being paragons of good feels weird but not at all bad. I actually enjoy rooting for these characters now in the canon. Liu Kings timeline is great.

It's also great because they're not shoehorned into being good guys. They all have actual motives that make some sense. My favorite ones are Baraka and Reptile. They actually have a past with actual motives and i love how they bond with one another because of their losses.
His arrogant/sarcastic demeanor and voice are so calm, sounding like a composed villain who is always in control. Shoutout to the voice actor! Also, a the facial expression is so well animated!
His face, voice and facial expressions are very much on point, I love everything about this character. They took a movie version of his face and rizzed him up to perfection. Gives me Loki vibes with his expressions. You can see they paid a lot of attention to the details especially when it comes to Shang Tsung in this game. Perceft villain, a lot of applause to both devs and the voice actor.

It actually speaks volumes that even though liu kang knows him and Shang are eternal rivals, he still gave him a chance in his own timeline he created, and even went out of his way to find a truly good version of him to help fight in the final battle against his mk11 timeline Shang tsung

Shang, on the other hand, wants nothing more than to kill Liu Kang, no matter who or what he must destroy to get it.
I like how among all the other characters who’ve had their personalities reworked (I guess Shao hasn’t really changed but you could say he wants to rule Outword because he thinks it’s in their best benefit), Shang Tsung really hasn’t changed much. Sure he’s had an entirely different backstory but he’s still the same conniving sorcerer he was in all of the previous MK games, just with a different appearance and weapons.

Alan Lee does a Fantastic Job Replicating Tagawa’s Voice Tone and Personality and makes it his own, That way Shang Tsung can Live On the Franchise for a Long Time and this Proofs that with the right person your Favorite Characters and Villains can appear in the Future.
I imagine Shang Tsung's intro with Homelander would show how even he is disgusted with Homelander's "antics", there's no better way to exclaim Homelander's perversion than making the most evil character of MK flinch in disdain.

Oh he's definitely prideful, he's definitely a bit arrogant, but he now seems to have a great deal more wisdom in showing remorse and knowing that he was lead astray. In short there is a great deal more potential for character development then we've seen with this character up to this point.

I love this iteration of Shang tsung. Soley because he knows he's a piece of shit and proud of it. Just like jack horner.
