  • I've updated my LCR speakers from the B&W 600 Series of ten years ago. These new speakers sing by creating the most theater-like home experience I've personally seen.

Have a 4.1 setup with my fronts
Bowers and Wilkins 705 s2 and my rear are 606 with older Bowers sub running through a Yamaha HTR. Excellent sound

We have very similar taste in gear! I'm running B&W 804s for my mains, HTM4 for the center, and a couple of the anniversary edition 607's for rears. Also running SB3000 for the sub. Mains powered by a Krell KAV250, everything else powered by Yamaha 3080 pre/pro. I too, have "grown up" with B&W. I've owned all the 600 series, CDM series, P7, and now even in our car. I love the B&W sound! Anyway, just found your channel, and enjoy hearing from other HT lovers. Nice system!

I have the 703-S2 mains and HTM71 S2 center for the front soundstage in a pretty small room (200 sq ft). Also a new Denon 4700H has helped a lot. I was thinking about another sub but I decided it is not needed. The woofers on these speakers are fantastic and I reduced the crossover to 60. I tried a 5.1.4 but I switched back to 7.1.2 which works well in my room and makes better use of my surround back speakers (not much Atmos sound). Finally I bought the B&W ceiling speaker for my surround back (CCM 7.5 S2). Surprisingly, its a huge addition although way too expensive. I didn't know that much sound came out of that channel. I also recommend a dedicated pre amp for these speakers. I bought an Emotiva 5 channel amp ($1,800). These speakers need it to really shine. I am relying on a Klipsch for surround speakers. B&W don't have one for my setup. Yes I know its all expensive but that's why we make money! I am amazed what I have been missing and I am glad I paid so much. Thanks

Hello, so I am thinking of buying from someone two b&w 704 s2 and the center HTM 72 s2 , he is lowering the price for 1000 bucks so looks like a good deal but I am pretty new to this and not sure if I should go this route. I know it needs a lot of power as well right now I have the pioneer elite sc lx501 still trying to figure out if I can add an amp and what kind of amp any help would be so appreciated

Enjoyed the video. My HT Speakers are the Paradigm Studio Reference speakers which have always sounded amazing with very good power and articulation. My new receiver, Marantz SR8015 (only model made in Japan), was a huge upgrade to my old Marantz receiver. Unfortunately running it in a 4.1 configuration because my center channel sounds muffled and either needs to be repaired or replaced. Can't go cheap on a center channel due to its importance. Also know that I need to pick something I could build around for future upgrades of the other channels for timbral matching. So it needs to be a center channel that will have excellent speakers for the other channels and that will be a somewhat steady speaker line that can be purchased over next few years. This is why I am considering the B&W 700 center channel in this video. Paradigm no longer makes the Studio Reference series and the closest match does not seem to be of the same quality. The ones that are are way more expensive than the B&W 700 series. I like how you say, put another way, the sound pushes out through the room saturating each listening position. I have a large room.

You have one of the best recordings of your voice. I am listening on a pair of B&W PX7s wired in and this is one of the best voice recordings that I have heard. I think that the 704 S2 is a very good sweet spot, price and sound quality-wise. Thanks for this great video

I’m currently planning purchasing a pair of 704 S2’s and either the HTM72 or 71 front channel. From what I understand the 72 is the most sonically same as the 704’s but the 3 way channel on the 71 is very appealing. Would I notice any weirdness or inconsistency from pairing the 704 s2’s with the 3 way HTM71 center?

Thank you very much for your take on this fine center channel?
You mentioned some differences between the 600 & 700 series center channels.
Along the same line, when it comes to the
603 s2 & the 704 s2 Anniversary Edition tower speakers, do you have any thoughts or opinions? Perhaps you've heard other av hobbiest say things several times that have diffentiated the tower speakers in these 2 product lines.
    I own the B&W HTM 6
    Center channel and love it.
It's lively, very clean sounding and fun.
The 704's are a big jump in price over the 603's.
I'd appreciate whatever , you or any members of the community here can provide me regarding these 2 sets of tower speakers.

I've demoed all the speakers you’ve mentioned. I sincerely believe you'd be happy with the with any. The main thing is the imaging. You will get a better sound stage with the higher-end models, Especially when paired with a good power amplifier. But that doesn’t mean you would be any less satisfied with the 600 series. It has a fantastic sound within its price point. What are you specifically concerned about?

      I may audition the
HTM72 S2 to see if there is an appreciable difference between that model and my
      HTM6 center channel.
The crossover over technology in the 700 series is certainly a step up as should be the carbon dome tweeter & the quality of the speaker cabinets from the 600 series.
The beauty of music for me is found in the details.
I have enough good clean power to light up this 700 center channel , take them for a decent test drive..
enough to know if I want to keep it.

    • @davidstein9129
      @davidstein9129 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I was wondering if the 700 series was worth the jump in price point as compared to the 600 series.
I did a lot of reading up on the 700 series.
I decided I needed to trust my ears and listen to a pair of 700 series speakers.
( I was a bit familiar already with the sound of the 600 series)
I purchased a HTM7 S2 Center Channel Speaker and was blown away!
I listen to music in 5.2 Dolby Digital Surround Sound.
That 700 center channel gives me goosebumps...that, up until now, elusive feeling of
" being there" at the performance.
I intend on purchasing a small pair of the 700 series tower speakers as a mate to my center channel. I have a small listening room so maybe the 704 S2 mini tower speakers might fit the bill.

I just find the sound great but am looking into a speaker upgrade. It would be great to learn a little more about the differences between your 600 and new 700 series. @@hometheaterhobby9450 I received my set, same setup as yours just in piano black. My amplification is indeed more than adequate. As you well laid out in your review, the base is incredible and I feel a much better integration with the subwoofers, making the whole front stage fuller, great imaging and so natural. Since the center channel came later I was able to first witness the big difference with the L+R speakers, and another big step up after setting up the center. Amazing how well it complements the L+R, being a huge step up compared to my previous center, which is also large. Although the base is great, what most impressed me with the 700s was the improvement in midrange having a more natural presence while being smoother and less direct. The tweeter blew me away on how sweet it sounds, mainly with music, never any sign of harshness, even when playing loud. In movies the center sound no longer seems to come out of a box, it is magically projected into the room, and its base is so powerful that I had to insert the foam plugs. This speaker set is definitely worth the plunge, the return in listening pleasure is incredible. Even my wife was impressed, first she didn’t believe it would make much of a difference until she first listened and was blown away and understood the reason for the cost.
