I started smoking pipes and cigars in 2020 during the pandemic. I was 55 years old so I wasn't really that concerned being that I stayed smoke free of 55 years. If I was much younger I doubt I would have made that decision. I started out smoking a couple times a week and now I'm a daily smoker, I just enjoy it so much.

Can't think of a better thing to do in 2023. To sit out in the winter sunshine, sipping on a favourite pipe stuffed with a delicious tobacco, it's joyous.

I just picked up the pipe this past Summer. I am 59 and this is the first time I have ever smoked. I find it quite enjoyable and relaxing. Plus the pipe community is awesome and very helpful.

My 49 birthday, I picked up pipe smoking. I ran 4 miles a day 5 days a week and a very active life style. I was a PT and 100 percent motorcyclist. Then a very large person had a loss of balance while I was working with them and i herniated my L3 and severe impingement on L3 nerve that has left my left quads flaccid and I have had a micro discectomy and no return of the left quads. Can't do any of the things I did before, my job, ride, run, kayak, beach and I live at the beach. Will need to move as I am unable to afford this place, sell my motorcycles, and rethink at my 50 birthday, where do I go from here. That pipe has been the only thing I can do that gives me time to enjoy life right now. So happy I picked this hobby up.

In 2021 I had a 2 level total disc replacement in my cervical spine(neck) c5-c7. . . And life has changed a bit since then. One thing I noticed is that a cigar/pipe gives me a healthy level of nicotine that relaxes not only my brain but my central nervous system, and when that c6-c7 continuing impingement flares up, a nice smoke is something that helps to relax it, and relax the affected muscles. This helps me sleep, which as you know is critical.

@@life_of_riley88 that is fascinating. I am amazed with your outcome with pipe and cigar smoking results. I used alcohol to get me to surgery along with use of cannabis for sleep only. It was able to have me tolerate pain in my L3 herniated disc. After surgery, I continued to use both up to two months after surgery and reduced intake from both since. Smoking a pipe as a new hobby last August gave me interest and a hobby that I could do during that time. Now 9 months in to this tobacco pipe smoking, it's apart of my daily progress. I am back on my motorcycles and showing a small amount of progress as I have a long way to go, if my left quadriceps even return, at this time I have see none. I am a high risk for loss of balance with all standing activity. As for pipe smoking, I have found peace with my current condition and having to change the way I do things. Never saw this coming. I have picked up small cigars that are made by the same pipe tobacco that I enjoy. I might have to pay attention to my back on days that I smoke tobacco. Thanks for sharing

I find l I'm so busy at this stage in my life, with so many people coming at me or expecting me to solve their problems, pipe smoking gives me that hour of peace with nobody bothering me that I need. It also gives me to time to reflect on what I've accomplished throughout the day and gives me that personal meditation time that I really need to keep my head right.

The best place u gonna be is pipe smoking; to understand the beauty of the tobacco and its labor. Best meditation for me also. And the best state of mind..

New subscriber here. Great topic and video. This is something that I've thought about as well. I smoke my pipe once a week, sometimes only twice a month. I do it because I believe it gives me joy and a better mental state. Poor mental health can lead to health concerns as well. I was way too stressed before. While the stress is there, pipe smoking helps reduce it for me.

I started smoking a pipe last year. I've been smoking cigars and cigarllos for serveral years and still love that.
Now I reach more often for the pipe than cigarillos and I guess it's beacuse how relaxing I find pipe smoking. I would only reccomend smoking a pipe for someone that want's to reduce stress and relax from time to time.

Agree. Using tobacco with a pipe is just a hobby and soothing! in my opinion, this is the safest use of tobacco today, you just need to know when to stop.

Cigarettes are a nervous habit but pipe smoking is a relaxing pleasure.

Is that your professional opinion or just something you pulled out from between your butt cheeks ? some would say smoking meth and crack is a relaxing pleasure as well...stop trying to classify pipe smoking into another category just because you like it...

Smoking cigarettes is what kills ppl, cigars and pipes are much safer, you don't inhale them into the lungs and less chemicals. I just took up pipe smoking in my late 40s, love being a real man.

I enjoy your content, sir. Quick questions: does that full bent billiard have a filter and if so, do you use one and find it beneficial? Nice pipe and great discussion, too. The internal dialogue of choice and weighing the benefit and burden of this meditative hobby is worthwhile. Thanks and take care.

I agree, I’m happy to know that health isn’t just working out and eating right, those are important but also relaxation, meditation and indulgences that bring joy. Indulgence that don’t become dependencies. By they way what kind of pipe where you smoking out of?

Great points. It definitely helps my mental health. Cigarettes were the polar opposite. They caused me stress and fit too well in my self-destructive way of rushing around and stressing myself out. My doctor wishes I smoked less I think but understands why I do it and agrees it's way better than Cigarettes. I also like having my lung capacity back. I'm very active and Cigarettes made it way more difficult.
