    What do you think? Did you know these variations already? Or any nice additional uses of the Pultec that you've found?

    I know the trick for lows but didn´t know the one for guitars, thanks!

      Yes that's usually the one that gets most attention but there is a bit more to it. Good that you learned something new.

    I was one of those idiots who thought that boost and attenuation were cancelling each other.
    Thank you for this video!

      You are welcome. They definitely do not cancel each other out, so enjoy the Pultec trick!

    The bass drum in your demo benefitted the most, achieving everything many of us seek in a rock track. I heard a night/day difference in the full mix but without any level problem. This squares exactly with my use of the EQP, almost always the bass drum if not a submix.
    Perhaps my favorite ‘feature’ of the EQP has only become a feature in modern times and that is its dearth of options. It’s dead easy to be happy when you know there is nothing more to do. Ah, for the ‘good old days.’

    Very nice, as it was new to me. Time to spend some money for the UAD plugIn. Thx 🙂 🤘👍

    Nice demonstration! I noticed that the UAD Pultec is NOT unity gain to start with. It adds about.7dB with out any EQ engaged. The "power swith" can be turned counterclockwise at then the "default" can be reset.

    • @LanewoodStudios
      @LanewoodStudios  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you! Yes i know some people just put a signal through a Pultec without doing any equalization. I guess it sounds better due to the tube thing and a bit of that boost maybe 😉.
      I could have done some leveling with the power switch in this video but didn't think about it in time.

    Love the Pultec and just use the trick for kick. But what an improvement for the rest too! It really buffs it to a shine! Lovely smack on that snare too! What’s on that?

    • @LanewoodStudios
      @LanewoodStudios  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Just an 1176 on the snare 😁

    night and day! 👍 When applying my own starting point recipee for the Drums, I use the SSL Channel Strip but, part of it *snares mostly, I have to low cut and at the same time, I have to boost/accent a smaller bell around that freq.... so I need another EQ (SSL has only LC, LMF, HMF, HF and filters..... This Pultec emulator will be my next goto to use along with the SSL. ProQ3 I tend to avoid it in analog recordings, I love this FF ProQ3 and I over-use it all the time.

    Good video, the high boost on guitar seems to work great. You really should level match though.

    What is your opinion about the Cubase 13 equivalent of this Pultec pugin, compared to the UAD version?

      I haven’t really used the Cubase one very much but checkout Chris Selim’s comparison: th-cam.com/video/DQGvSEajXEA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=T4tBmeIziNCYy7Zw

    I don't think anybody really cares what EQ is on the Kick drum. Like many of these 'Nuances' that we producers agonise over, it all gets lost in the mix anyway. If you don't listen on suitable equipment you've no chance of noticing any difference even if you know what to listen for. My wife listens to a lot of music but i'm not sure she knows what kick drum is so I'm sure she isn't interested in which compressor or EQ was used. The majority of music lovers only care about the song. I'm not criticising you, i'm just making a point.

    • @shanebullard7995
      @shanebullard7995 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Mix engineers care a lot. And that’s who this is for.

    • @LanewoodStudios
      @LanewoodStudios  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I understand what you mean but yes, I think we still care about making it sound as good as possible. Even if almost nobody notices consciously.

    • @earledaniels4539
      @earledaniels4539 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      EQ doesn't matter on the kick? Are you serious? It's the most important element in any Rock, Rap or Pop song.

    • @morganmusic1504
      @morganmusic1504 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A good low frequencies mixing is very important. And personaly i think Vulfpeck or Cory Wong wouldn't be famous if they not haded their high quality of mixing.
      Other musicians and mixing engineers can hear a lot of nuances yes, but the majority of people is able to notice a "quality range of a sound" at least.

    Dear ciao ok clone puigtec plugin is nice . but could u try to compare ( put with the same shapes of waves that u used on pultq )VS the eq Frequency of official cubase 13 ?
    my ears ( on headset) seems not note any differences ( im just give a thin of normal plugin compressor than the sound remeaning very similar that ptq of WAVES )
    maybe i become deaf? ... i wish to see ur comparing video on next
    Thx
    Franco

    • @LanewoodStudios
      @LanewoodStudios  25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi Franco, especially for the Bass and Kick demos you really need to listen on something that can reproduce the low-end, so studio monitors or some good headphones.
      When it comes to comparing the Cubase plugin Frequency to any Pultec clone, it might make more sense to compare it to the Cubase 'Pultec' that has been included since Cubase 13. Chris Selim has a video on that: th-cam.com/video/DQGvSEajXEA/w-d-xo.html
      I've made a video myself comparing a hardware Pultec clone versus the UAD one: th-cam.com/video/6GuuTVqhumo/w-d-xo.html
