To run multiple cameras, interview people, unload the cameras, edit the footage and add audio.... it's an art. The guesthouse manager had a lot of energy! It's incredible how those people's lives are so well organised around that water ! We take water so much for granted but they really have to work for it there and they have developed a very neat system for sharing it.
Great episode. Some of the freshest good food I ever ate was in Morocco. Really nice people. Always a good day when I stopped to camp and meet local people. Coming back to the west with it's plastic and metal wrapped food was so hard. I just sat outside a Spanish supermarket for half an hour not wanting to go in when coming back through Europe. Watching the garden tour was a reminder of how connected we are to the soil and how important it is to maintain our environment for food resources and clean water.
So true, my grandfather used to cultivate many vegetables and fruits like in the oasis for our home consumption, I didn’t get it until now that he was so connected to the land and he loved doing it, we unfortunately lost this heritage in those modern days, I missed the old days and someday I’ll go back where i grew up and renew my grandfather lifestyle because there i find my inner peace that I lost inside this digital society we become.
So cool to see how the communal farms worked in the middle of the Moroccan desert. This brought back memories of me, as a small boy, walking with and helping my grandfather irrigate his organic peach and plum orchards in California. He had over a 100 acres of fruit trees and was selling organic fruit to Los Angeles health food stores in the 1950's-1960's. Granny and Pop were ahead of their time. Thanks for another window into how unique and beautiful all the people of the world can be.

The simplicity in Noraly's approach in acquiring and relaying the information to us is splended. I remember my childhood in old country watching farmers siting by the canal in the middle of the night watering their crops. Watching Noraly's journeys, I noticed a common bond of love and respect between normal people across the World, if you take out the ugliness of dictatorship and corporate greed.
Exactly my thoughts as well. People are inherently good. I did not see any garbage anywhere and that is impressive compared to what one would find in modern cities.

The community living there at the oasis is how we all lived thousands of years ago....self sufficiency, your own rules and sharing between families for the good of all. Excellent vegetables, both for food and herbal medicines. Yes they have some modern conveniences, electricity and vehicles....but come the day of the next world apocalypse, those are the folk who will survive....I'm not so sure many of us in First World countries would do so well.
That oasis was amazing. The way they work together to share water for crops, making bread etc. It heartens me to know how close these people are. If they weren't then they wouldn't survive. Fantastic Noraly, this is so interesting. Thanks :)
They’re right to be proud of their cooperative oasis. Stunning achievement for so many people. Reminds me of childhood playing in my mother’s vegetable garden and snacking on fruit and vegetables as we played. I still remember the taste of a carrot straight out of the soil and rubbed clean on my trousers! Lovely episode.
It’s funny in the old days, our dessert were fruits and we can get all sort of veg as snacks . We wash them though in Marrakech hhh. Sweets are homemade healthy cakes or healthy sweets from shops . I miss the old days.

It's incredible to see the guy in the middle of desert knowing three major languages well besides the local language. The water delivery that he was showing is called "Qanat" that was invented in Persia thousands of years where they move the water frpm the mountains in the desert for up to 60 kilometers. It is amazing how these people live a comfortable life with not much! Share with others when we can!!!
The same system was used by the ancient Nazca people who lived in the Nazca Desert in Peru. The hydraulic system, known as the puquios, is a combination of underground tunnels, small reservoirs, and spiraling holes called "ojos" that lead from the surface to the water below. The spiral-shaped holes funnel wind into the underground canals. The wind helped to push the water through the system, with the spiral "ojos" serving like ancient pumps.

"Because water is life," his words are so true. The presentation of life in the desert was so informative. I like the way he emphasized how one should be present to utilize the water on schedule.....or you lose the water! Learning about Moroccan culture, and the oasis life by the desert was great.
Noticed how tidy it was around that village. no trash blowing around. As a farmer one can only bow your head to the enormous effort put into the irrigation.

As a child of the 60's, I immediately recognized the oasis community you visited. It is the ancestor of what we called a 'COMMUNE" here in the states. we can take so many lessons from other cultures that still operate under the systems that had been in place for hundreds, if not thousands of years. It is so neat to see how people come together to share resources, work and ideas to better the whole group. Side note - when you visited the village musicians, I took notice of the traditional garb worn by them all, but especially they were all wearing sneakers, high tops, running shoes, etc. it seems that different cultures CAN CO-EXIST!!!!!😅👍👟🐪 You have shown us a culture and part of society we never had seen before. It's fantastic to see how well organized these people go about growing their food, with very little waste. Very nice guide, too. In western, modern society, people have become lazy and impatient, just wanting everything on the cheap. Makes me think of so much culture we have lost.

Like the Hohokam, from centuries ago, they developed irrigation for farming...hundreds of years before Phoenix Arizona became what it is today. The gentleman giving you the tour talked about conservation and distribution of the very thing that gives life. The venting of the underground channels blew my mind. Thanks for taking us along. that system of irrigation is an ancient Persian technique, in some places in Morocco it goes for several tens of kilometers, and in Iran there's one that goes for almost 80KM, things built over 2000years ago and still working

Watching the garden tour was a reminder of how connected we are to the soil and how important it is to maintain our environment for food resources and clean water.
So true, my grandfather used to cultivate many vegetables and fruits like in the oasis for our home consumption, I didn’t get it until now that he was so connected to the land and he loved doing it, we unfortunately lost this heritage in those modern days, I missed the old days and someday I’ll go back where i grew up and renew my grandfather lifestyle because there i find my inner peace that I lost inside this digital society we become.
So cool to see how the communal farms worked in the middle of the Moroccan desert. This brought back memories of me, as a small boy, walking with and helping my grandfather irrigate his organic peach and plum orchards in California. He had over a 100 acres of fruit trees and was selling organic fruit to Los Angeles health food stores in the 1950's-1960's. Granny and Pop were ahead of their time. Thanks for another window into how unique and beautiful all the people of the world can be.

The simplicity in Noraly's approach in acquiring and relaying the information to us is splended. I remember my childhood in old country watching farmers siting by the canal in the middle of the night watering their crops. Watching Noraly's journeys, I noticed a common bond of love and respect between normal people across the World, if you take out the ugliness of dictatorship and corporate greed.
Exactly my thoughts as well. People are inherently good. I did not see any garbage anywhere and that is impressive compared to what one would find in modern cities.

The community living there at the oasis is how we all lived thousands of years ago....self sufficiency, your own rules and sharing between families for the good of all. Excellent vegetables, both for food and herbal medicines. Yes they have some modern conveniences, electricity and vehicles....but come the day of the next world apocalypse, those are the folk who will survive....I'm not so sure many of us in First World countries would do so well.

Reminds me of childhood playing in my mother’s vegetable garden and snacking on fruit and vegetables as we played. I still remember the taste of a carrot straight out of the soil and rubbed clean on my trousers! Lovely episode.

It’s funny in the old days, our dessert were fruits and we can get all sort of veg as snacks . We wash them though in Marrakech hhh. Sweets are homemade healthy cakes or healthy sweets from shops . I miss the old days.

It's incredible to see the guy in the middle of desert knowing three major languages well besides the local language. The water delivery that he was showing is called "Qanat" that was invented in Persia thousands of years where they move the water frpm the mountains in the desert for up to 60 kilometers. It is amazing how these people live a comfortable life with not much! Share with others when we can!!!
The same system was used by the ancient Nazca people who lived in the Nazca Desert in Peru. The hydraulic system, known as the puquios, is a combination of underground tunnels, small reservoirs, and spiraling holes called "ojos" that lead from the surface to the water below. The spiral-shaped holes funnel wind into the underground canals. The wind helped to push the water through the system, with the spiral "ojos" serving like ancient pumps.
It does not surprises...most Maroccoans are multilingual...French and Spanish is common because of their colonial past.

Indeed she is an awesome person ! but just so you know, in moroccan culture, whoever you are wherever you go, people will invite you in and share with you whatever they can with nothing in return. its just a part of the tradition because they judge no one or seek no one's approval, but simply being normal human beings who live life one day at a time

Morocco is just an amazing country....... I lived there for 5 years and I enjoyed the natural beauty🌴🏔🏜 and the rich culture and tradition. However, i always wonder how these people survive in the desert with almost no water, Thanks to Noraly i now know. This is engineering at its best .💯👏

As a child of the 60's, I immediately recognized the oasis community you visited. It is the ancestor of what we called a 'COMMUNE" here in the states. we can take so many lessons from other cultures that still operate under the systems that had been in place for hundreds, if not thousands of years. It is so neat to see how people come together to share resources, work and ideas to better the whole group. Side note - when you visited the village musicians, I took notice of the traditional garb worn by them all, but especially they were all wearing sneakers, high tops, running shoes, etc. it seems that different cultures CAN CO-EXIST!!!!!😅👍👟🐪 You have shown us a culture and part of society we never had seen before. Like the Hohokam, from centuries ago, they developed irrigation for farming...hundreds of years before Phoenix Arizona became what it is today. The gentleman giving you the tour talked about conservation and distribution of the very thing that gives life. The venting of the underground channels blew my mind.

that system of irrigation is an ancient Persian technique, in some places in Morocco it goes for several tens of kilometers, and in Iran there's one that goes for almost 80KM, things built over 2000years ago and still working
It's amazing how well connected they are with their environment and learned how to take the most out of it with old and effective techniques.
And also improved the speed of water flow by using a little cement.
Part of the world most of us were unaware of and the people and community unheard of, thanks Noraly for taking us there.
