This is the best advice to give. The buddy system can be applied to many types of activities. 1 person is fine until it's not. Then it's too late. Adding just 1 more person opens the options and possibilities _infinitely._
@@Mindsi 1st thing is you need to have emergency numbers from that area plugged into both phones. Next, plot out and discuss the intended route from when you leave the car to the destination. Just a general direction from the car. And distance in a direct line to the destination. This is to simplify and reduce wasted searching. For instance, if one person can't be moved and the other gets out, to tell rescuers "he is North Northwest from where we parked, about 3 miles as the crow flies" or "East Southeast from where we parked 3 and 3/4 miles as the crow flies.' Whatever the case may be. It will help immensely just by knowing a general distance and direction. While hiking, always keep some distance between the both of them. Not a lot, just keep each other in sight. This way, if something happens to 1 person, it won't likely happen to the other, leaving them to seek help if necessary. Now IF something happens....say 1 person slips, falls and breaks their back. Hopefully, you can call rescuers and tell the direction and distance from where your car is located. Then just keep the injured person from moving, provide shade if possible, and keep them hydrated. When you hear voices yell to get their attention. If you hear a helicopter, get to a clear area, take off the brightest, biggest piece of clothing and wave it in great big circles to be seen. But if there is no cell service, then the uninjured person provides shade, leave the injured with some water, and hike back out to the car as fast as safe as you can. Then either drive or find cell service to call emergency. Then everyone go back to where the car was parked and give the distance and direction and go along to help locate the injured.
@@michaelmoore7975 is correct. The buddy system is best. I would add that smoke is also good at getting attention if you don't have brightly colored fabric. I've just been following this channel for a relatively short time and decided to recommend it to my husband tonight. When I talked to him about it I had it paused on a screen where your wife was gazing at you, and my husband's first comment was, "She loves him." I think it's so epic to see couples who truly care about each other these days. I'm 18 years into an awesome marriage, and when you get the right person, everything just clicks
What a wonderful place to bring your wife. The word "ideal" comes to mind, as does "garden of Eden". Just beautiful! Lovely to see you Evelyn. Such a cute couple!
Having Evelyn along with you sure adds a new dimention to your video. I think this was your best one so far. The sculpture was a real surprise too. I really enjoyed this.
Omg I literally gasped at the stone face!! This was the best one yet, not just because we got to meet Evelyn but the drone footage of scenery, the sounds, everything… this is going to be hard to beat!! Wow, thank you Andrew and Evelyn!
i gasped too when i saw it....... i cant believe what modern humans will do. destroying sites left and right leaving less and less of the historical sites of the ancients to learn from. Leaving us nonsense that serves no historical use beyond "at some point some asshole came in here and carved his modern crap into stuff that was some of the few remaining pieces of evidence of ancient civilizations".
That carved rock was amazing and even though it was an ancient site and I do believe in leaving everything alone, it does say that human life goes on and that it wasn't just for the ancients, we really don't know how old that is but I don't think that it was such a bad edition. I think if there were only a few ruins out there that I would probably be more upset, but they're scattered all over the place and more are discovered every day, so yeah, that's pretty amazing. I hope you got a lot of pictures
As an artist, I was just thinking about this very question watching this channel several videos ago. Where are contemporary artist able to leave their mark on nature? Tough question. The sculpture placement was pretty good.
When i was 18 years old (1998) i went to the Smoky Mountains to camp, it was my first time in nature, I am from Chicago, and it was a good time! At that time i’ve never heard of the phrase “Leave No Trace” or anything about outdoor ethics! I remember my friends and I started driving away you could see our mess (cups, paper towels, paper plates) it just stood out like a sore thumb! I forced them to go back and we cleaned up put everything in bags or just inside our car and took it to the visitor center and threw it away. That experience changed the way i looked at things and even now i go out of my way to clean up whenever i go hiking or camping!
I’m glad you understood that instinctively. Having grown up during the national anti littering campaign I just assumed that was part of everyone’s upbringing now, but if the understanding comes from within that is even better.
That one small tree growing out of that small patch of soil is a perfect example of how even in a minimal environment life expresses itself so beautifully and powerfully! God you are AMAZING! ❤️
That tree reminded me of my wife and I going to Volcano National Park in Hawaii. Out in the lava fields you could spot something green growing here and there in that rock. Just enough crack to sprout up a plant.
I'd say it's nature that's amazing. Give it some credit! I find there's more beauty in the fact that such incredible complexity and history can form in a universe without an "intelligent designer." As physics plays out, this is what happens. From the most distant galaxies in wavelengths we can't even see with our human eyes to the microscopic life only resolved with technology like electron microscopes, all truly wonders to behold. Giving some sky daddy all the credit would ruin the beauty of it all.
Sure, having someone to share the day with is excellent. As an old man, I vote bring your wife along. If you were a couple that fought all the time, leave her at home, but that is not the case. Take her with you. Build memories!
Bring her again. It will enrichen your marriage, give you both shared memories and respect for your later years. A true partnership, and the two of you can cover more ground together. An extra set of eyes. God bless.

The stone face looks very contemporary and apropos. A talented artist felt inspired and made a tasteful sculpture for us to enjoy. It is not vandalism or graffiti.

I just HAD to pause at 14.00 just now. My venturing person, Hubby, finished his last quest in this life 08/12/2020. He was disabled and couldn’t explore like you guys do now, and I am now 65 and unable to explore like this. Jim would have so much loved watching your videos. This one in particular has me blown away! I paint/sketch. The view where I paused to type this, is so amazing! To think that generations upon generations of young men have probably camped with other strong Fathers or brothers, and probably went on their first hunt, the coming of age. I can also see a group of family etc spending a season of time there, to hunt also to grow things. During the cold days, the Sun would warm the rocks and protect little ones from harsh winds. I’m just thankful I found your channel. You guys spend as much time together like this that you can.❤ Happy Trails to you both? What’s the most unique little thing you ever found ie button ?
This so far is my favorite video that you have put out. And I have really admired a lot of your videos. You make some wonderful videos about creation and ancient people that live there. I am always intrigued. But not only do. I think this is one of your best because of the location and the scenery but also because you brought your wife with you. It is very heartwarming to see your woman be able to enjoy what you do also. And to have her accompany you on this one particular video warms my heart to see the two of you together. My opinion, it would be nice to see your wife accompany you on other video excursions through the canyons of the southwest
That rock sculpture is truly amazing!! When I look at it carefully it gives off a message that only a native American Indian could carve filled with ancient knowledge. I am not saying it is ancient in itself but the imagery it portrays speaks of the ancient knowledge passed down through generations. Someone who intimately knows of their roots and connection to this location could carve something like this monument in memory of this place's significance. To me this what the highlight of the trip. Wonderful meeting Mrs Drifter and she certainly such a blessing in your life.
You have a beautiful wife, both of you look to be made for each other. I'm 63now and when I was your age (my guess is 31) I used to comb over Eastern Oregon. My favorite area is cabbage mountain, following the Oregon trail. Thank you I watch every vid you make, it makes me feel young again. Bring your wife with you on future vids please.
How sweet is she? Hello Evelyn! Thank you for lending Andrew to us on these amazing hikes. Such a gentleman. The natural arch was just stunning! The contrast of the black and brown. The spot where the lines curved up, gorgeous! That view is one of my top 3! The drone footage over the creek... I could smell the sage and juniper. That carving was mind blowing. I wonder who did that? How long ago? Will we ever know? Probably not but still a cool find! Love how he overlooks the canyon while sitting in a somewhat protected area. Andrew thank you AGAIN for another fab video! Mrs. Drifter it was a pleasure. Stay safe and well. A'ho!

I think it's so epic to see couples who truly care about each other these days. I'm 18 years into an awesome marriage, and when you get the right person, everything just clicks
Evelyn is a breath of fresh air and a lot of fun and energy. I vote to having her with you on as many adventures as possible. ❤❤
What a wonderful place to bring your wife. The word "ideal" comes to mind, as does "garden of Eden". Just beautiful! Lovely to see you Evelyn. Such a cute couple!
There was a place where the river looked like the garden of Eden. I'm glad I wasn't alone in noticing.
Having Evelyn along with you sure adds a new dimention to your video. I think this was your best one so far. The sculpture was a real surprise too. I really enjoyed this.
❤

You're blessed with such a lovely wife and good wisdom, nice to see the two of you on the trail.
MORE EVELYN! You two are wonderful on camera together, and she’s just as adventurous as you are…do it for us ladies!
✨💖✨
Agreed! As a lady follower, I’d enjoy more cameos of her, or an outright shift to dual hiking adventures would be okay too!
"do it for us ladies!"
And gents!
Omg I literally gasped at the stone face!! This was the best one yet, not just because we got to meet Evelyn but the drone footage of scenery, the sounds, everything… this is going to be hard to beat!! Wow, thank you Andrew and Evelyn!
I agree!
@@millierader2517, je suis d’accord moi aussi !. 🇫🇷 Paris French .
i gasped too when i saw it....... i cant believe what modern humans will do. destroying sites left and right leaving less and less of the historical sites of the ancients to learn from. Leaving us nonsense that serves no historical use beyond "at some point some asshole came in here and carved his modern crap into stuff that was some of the few remaining pieces of evidence of ancient civilizations".
looove the drone footage.. that natural arch is just stunning
That sculpture was incredible! Absolutely blew me away. I think you're right it's a modern artist who was carving that and using the cave as a studio.
Thank you!
I’m glad you understood that instinctively. Having grown up during the national anti littering campaign I just assumed that was part of everyone’s upbringing now, but if the understanding comes from within that is even better.
You are the luckiest man on the face of the Earth, for all of time. Evelyn, thanks for joining us, and I hope you’ll be a frequent co-host.
I think Evelyn really was a nice breath of fresh air in your video series. Please ask her to come more often!
Most definitely include Evelyn on a future adventure. She's quite the mountain goat. Very easy on the eyes and a genuine joy!
What a lovely way of expressing a thought. That made me feel so peaceful suddenly. TY 👏🏻👍🏼
@@Cara.314 What do you think nature is? 😂😂😂
Also proves Ian Malcom's saying "life finds a way"
Definitely worth having your wife along! Looked like she was enjoying herself.
Yes. Take your wife. She seems like shes not only beautiful on the outside, but inside as well! ❤
A blown up photo of the sculpture would be greatly appreciated! Beautifully done. Thank you for all you do!
God bless.

Until the inevitable divorce comes, and then bitter resentment sets in .
Have a wonderful day ! 😊
You two make a beautiful couple. Nice to meet you, Evelyn! This was a gorgeous spot, and that carving was amazing. Thanks for taking us along!
great username!
WOW!!
That chipped out face is incredible!!!
That guy was a true artist!!
awwwww your precious precious wifey!! How gorgeous are you both!! and absolutely INcredible terrain!! thx for bringing us along🥰🥰🥰
4:57 omigosh that outstanding rock art!!!! isn’t that just so wild??!! wow! totally wow… that’s so cool… that flood debris is intense too.. beautiful beautiful beeeeeutiful
I’m 58 yrs old and never knew places like this even existed in the US until a few years ago. I love your videos. These videos should be shown in schools so young kids can learn from them!
Western Americana is a long forgotten jewel imo starting to die out in the 70’s the Grateful Dead were the last ones to embrace it
The stone face looks very contemporary and apropos. A talented artist felt inspired and made a tasteful sculpture for us to enjoy. It is not vandalism or graffiti.
An homage to the ancestors.
I advocate for more of her on your productions!!! "Mrs. Drifter "is a great and welcome addition.
This area is absolutely gorgeous
Your lady compliments you nicely. Adventerous with a killer smile! Best wishes to you both.
Your wife Evelyn is charming and adds good humor to your video. Take her out exploring more often.
Evelyn is a welcome addition. Have fun!
You are carrying the past exploration dream of what looks like a huge boomer generation. Fun is mandatory so go for it ❤
Oh! Yay! Mrs. D! (D for Drifter of course) So glad to see her! ⛰️
Man, you’ve got terrific drone skills - you send it right where I want it to go, awesome work! From one desert rat to another, cheers, mate!
Thanks dude!
My husband and I loved getting to see Evelyn. Her personality shined through. We can tell shes a real character. Please have her on more adventures. As for this hike we both think it's your best one yet. It was so beautiful with the red earth, green trees and stream. The sculpture was really interesting.
I'll never get to see anything like that in real life, so thanks for sharing. A creek in the desert, complete with cotton woods and clear pools, is amazing.
Saw a new video and said "Yay!" And then the added bonus of meeting your wife. I have a feeling she keeps you on your toes. LOL!

Thank you for sharing, and sorry that you lost him. It is a blessing to look back on all the great joys of our lives, it is its own gift of time.
How lucky are you? Fantastic views, exploration, now you introduce your beautiful wife. I love your show and you bringing us along to see the art and architecture of the ancestors and of coarse the nature.
You guys are beautiful together.
Caught myself smiling while watching.
Like Ken Burns said, "It's not what you do, but who you do it with." That is a stunning place. Glad I got to watch! Sign me up for The Desert Driftess. Great video, again! Hello and welcome, Evelyn.
Thank you for not having music when flying the canyon in order to enjoy the sound of nature. This place is a paradise! Thanks for sharing.
The canyons with trees, amazing rock formations, and water running thru are so inviting...I can imagine people staying there awhile. Beautiful place!
Evelyn is so cool! I'm glad she finally made a video with you. You should have her do some of the narrating.
I think the use of "the ancient ones", is quite appropriate, Andrew. This Pueblo member approves 👍,Coming from this (recent one)😂
It's one thing to be able to admire the beauty and grandeur of the desert solo... but it's 1,000 times better being able to share it with the one you love. ♥
Absolutely!
So happy to meet her! Yay! Glad you brought her along!
What a lovely wife to seemingly fit you perfectly.
May God continue to bless you both.
🙏🏽🥾🥾
Keep bringing your wife along. She's a good addition and probably nice for you to have along.
What a beautiful little family!! Along with some absolutely beautiful scenery!! Thanks for taking us along with y'all!!
Enjoyed your wife being with you. It's always nice to have another thought
I’m an Australian living in Australia. I love watching your channel. Great photography and commentary. The places you explore are amazing.. Thank you.
Very lucky couple. I imagine you have the struggles we all do but you can tell there is a natural chemistry between you two.
I can see she keeps you awake and alert -- a good partner. A different vibe than with your buddies. Variety is the spice of life!
Loved having Mrs Drifter along. And that piece of art work was the bomb. Whoever it was can leave their mark where i am any time they want.
It's great to see your wife the "boss' with you 😂. We enjoy your adventures.

Andrew..... lovely addition to your adventure. Thanks for letting us follow along. Hope you'll bring her on more of your future trips. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes..... Ax
This landscape is hauntingly beautiful. What a treasure! And bring your wife whenever she can find the time to join you.
Ms. Drifter MOST DEFINITELY adds to your video storytelling. I'm glad that she came along. Would be happy to see more, especially from her perspective.
Thank ya for sharing your wife Can't even explain the Beauty of this place 😊👍😊✌️❤️
Evelyn was a great addition for sure!... you're a lucky man to have a wife that shares the adventure.
Unbelievable, spectacular scenery. So beautiful! The drone shots were fantastic. Thank you so much for taking us there. Evelyn should appear in more of your videos. She's a lot of fun.
Good to see your wife EVELYN .you’ll have to rename your videos THE DESERT DUO
Or desert drifters
Absolutely yes to Mrs. Drifter! She adds a fun spark to the explorations.
My wife and I are 60 + . We are so happy to see you both together. Her mom's name was Evelyn too. Happy to see you both. Good day Blessings .
We're so glad to meet Mrs. Drifter. My wife was a rock climber, ice climber and mountaineer. I was a sea kayaker, now we are mostly sailors. I first discovered the Trek Planner and then your channel. I shared your video's with my wife and now we look forward to watching every new video together. Thank you so much for sharing Mrs. Drifter (Evelyn) with us, she seems great! We look forward to seeing you both again, and again, and.....
You guys are awesome! Keep exploring, we love the adventures!
I loved Evelyn’s adventurous spirit! Definitely love to see more of her!
Oh please please have Evelyn back in future videos. She really enhances the whole adventure. I just love her smiling enthusiasm. Great video!
Thanks Mike. I will let her know. And I’m sure she’ll join me again at some point
@@Desert.Driftercan you remember how long it took from the cliff to Ortho-Bridge?
Your wife is amazing, and beautiful too. I would say you won first place. I think you two were made for each other. Love to watch you`ll.
So Beautiful!…. What a wonderful life you guys share. Incredible
How can you not have Evelyn along again; lots of smiles
We all enjoy your content so much- Evelyn is a wonderful addition and her smile is electric!
Oh Oregon . Saw big foot after Saint Hellins eruption.
She's lovely. So glad you have her. What a beautiful place! Thanks for taking us.
A'ho!
It was such a treat, seeing Mrs. Desert Drifter along with you, she’s very cool. Thank you both for the wonderful time drifting in the desert.
