Luc went to school in Winnipeg with my daughter Danielle and my son Lewis. Lewis always said he envied Luc as he would always be playing his guitar and skipping classes to learn a new revelation on the guitar. Look at him now! I first saw Melissa with Jesse Cook. What a beautiful voice and amazing writer. I fell in love with her the first time I saw her. I attended the concert with my son Lewis and I will always cherish that memory. A beautiful union of voices. Best wishes to both of you. :)
Wow. This is, for me, the only song to have brought tears to my eyes that i have ever experinced. It reminds me of so many negative things in my life, but tells me at the same time that it'll all be alright. It truly is an ineffable feeling. Thank you, Whitehorse
there is just something about these two together that makes me cry! i get all choked up inside! i just saw them in Louisville at Zanzabar. their vibe set my heart in empathy mode. i love them!
This is gorgeous! Someone on the website AskMetafilter linked to this song when asked to recommend up and coming Canadian musicians, and within 30 seconds into this tune, I was buying their album on iTunes... I wish Whitehorse great success!
I was brought here by a video Ed Robertson posted. He was whistling this song to the beat of a fire alarm. I'm so glad I heard this! It's absolutely beautiful, pure music. I can't get enough!
As a wannabe guitarist, I find this pair simultaneously completely disheartening (because they are an incarnation of inspired perfection) and utterly transcendent (because they are an incarnation of inspired perfection). Whitehorse's music is my drug of choice. Thanks for sharing.
mylulac Thanks for watching Mylulac. We're about to release some brand new material from them this week. Stay tuned or subscribe to make sure you don't miss it :)
I stumbled into you guys on you tube. I cannot honestly how ! Sat here tonight listening to you and its a breath of fresh air. Keep it up guys. You are great.
Very late response, but may want pick another one. Song is about being separated from someone, and “going through the motions” in a relationship when done it so many times before you just expect they’re going to come back “once her pretty little mouth says, I wanna go home”…I mean if she does come back this time…maybe I’ll sing it to her on our wedding, but I doubt it this time
that is a very good interpretation, but it is incorrect. This song relates to the time before they were married but had started a relationship; While both of them had performed together they had not yet decided to join forces- each had their own careers which they pursued. During that time Luke was into running and decided to enter a marathon in Ireland (Emerald Isle) and unknown to him Melissa decided to cash-out and buy a plane ticket to be with him. This is what the song is abouti@@PutYourQuarterUpGaming
I'm so used to say dirty things about what i see on utube that i'm really happy to love love those 2...I'm learning the song and i love it either ; Please , come and play in south of France
@kaleighloves i just figured it out, just so you know the progression. For the verses it goes A minor, to F, to C, to D minor, to F, to C, then to G. The chorus is just F to C and repeat, until "thats a lot of my heart out there. play g on that line
I hope the Canadian gov't doesn't kill the CBC. It's the best way for Canada to share and promote it's wonderful music with the rest of the world. In Minnesota, we have MPR and their alt station the Current. It's only partly state funded, but there are those who try to cut off the little funding they do get.
at around 50 sec, I keep hearing that ring from "thanks for the memories even if they weren't so sweet". Either way I love this flipping song 2 thumps way up the butt!!!
@nigadoo1 Also waiting for a NB show! I first heard you one saturday morning on Vinyl Cafe on the way to work. When I arrived at work I waited in the car to listen to the rest of the song, I was late........But well worth it.
Beautiful voice on that lady as well as herself in general. Buddy, if i win the loto, im coming to steal her from you, lol. Jk, great performance that i keep coming back to.
Does anyone have a clue as to what the lyrics mean? I love this song and get it stuck in my head all the time; this isn´t meant as a criticism, I just can't make sense of it.
I heard them explain it once. My memory might be a touch foggy but they had just started seeing each other and Luke was off in Europe running in a marathon. Melissa really missed him and decided to scrape up all her change to fly over and surprise him.
I have to respectfully disagree. CBC Radio is almost 30 years older than NPR. Not to mention that CBC Radio is an entirely publicly funded enterprise. NPR: CBC Radio for the South.
iam so afraid!!! that these true musicians show again what canada has to offer !!?? how stupid are we??we need a arts culture ! listen to these 2!!?? how much more do we need to see that we are soon going to lose this type of REAL TALENT!! ?AS A CANADIAN ARE DIGNITY ARE VIEWS AND OUR MUSIC SHOULD BE HEARD!! WERE ARE YOU NEIL YOUNG ? ANN MURRAY? TO HELP THESE GUYS ?!!! AM I DEAD? OR JUST LOST? READY TO GET FUCKED OVER BY MY LOSS TO THE USA

Love how their playing evolves and changes in subtle notes and solos… brilliant.

Wow, I'll bet the "Civil Wars" and Welch and Rawlins are sort of shaking in their boots. Love the harmonies and the RockaBilly thing you got workin'.
Good music aint competition, brother. Gotta just enjoy all the talent out there!

Ireland is called the Emerald Isle :)
all radio stations should close and only Radio2 should be allowed :-)
I like the live version they play compared to the studio album version, its got a little more twang and heart to it
I think about falling in love with my wife, hearing this song.

Cool, just don't watch our tv shows, or the spell will break. ;)
and our horrible government is trying to get rid of the cbc. I'm proud to be Canadian, but I am ASHAMED of my government.
I hate Taylor Swift for writing a song called White Horse.... this was nearly impossible to find. *angry face*
