    EDIT 7: As of April 2017, the first 6 Caltrans locos have been delivered to Oakland. IDTX 4611 is now in Chicago. 9 locomotives have been conditionally accepted by IDOT after having completed their burn-in testing at Pueblo.
    EDIT 6: As of early March 2017, the first two WASDOT locomotives have been complete and are undergoing burn-in testing @ Pueblo before being sent to Washington State for introduction on Cascades services.
    EDIT 5: As of late February 2017, IDTX 4611 is undergoing test runs on WSDOT Cascades territory; here is the best clip of the locomotive testing so far: • NEW Siemens SC-44 Char...
    EDIT 4: As of 12/8/16, the first AAF Brightline train has departed the Siemens plant enroute to Florida: • Brightline Departs Sac...
    EDIT 3: As of 12/2/16, 4611 is on WSDOT property for Cascade service testing (or at least testing in that territory). The status of 4603 is unknown at this time.
    EDIT 2: As of 11/14/16, the following is known: 4601-4602 are back @ the Siemens Plant, 4604 remains on MARC property. 4603 is to head north to Washington State for testing along the Cascades route. All remaining locomotives up to and including 4610 to head to Pueblo, CO for 500 mile burn-in testing before being shipped to Chicago for acceptance and entry into service on Chicago based regional routes. Additionally, initial roster numbers revealed; IDOT 4601-4632, Caltrans 2101-2120, WSDOT 1400-1407.
    EDIT 1: As of 8/10/16, 4601 & 4602 have concluded testing @ TTCI; 4604 has arrived on the NEC for late night testing in real-world conditions later this month.
    EDIT 2: As of 9/7/16, 4604 is in Philadelphia for testing on the Northeast Corridor within the next week.
    Before you ask, ALL info on the Charger can be found compiled here: en.wikipedia.or...
    As I did with the ACS-64 when that tested at the TTCI, here's new footage of the Siemens Charger (SC-44) locomotives (4601) testing at 125 miles per hour out in Pueblo Colorado with MARC bilevel cars. This is the first time we get to hear what the new Cummins QSK95 high speed diesel sounds like. I get the impression that it makes the Charger sound like an oversized Dodge Ram lmao. Enjoy the action, and stay tuned for delivery updates that I will post in this description as I did on the ACS-64 b-roll video.
    Credits to Amtrak, IDOT, and Siemens.

    To all you 8-11 year old "railfans" who shouldn't be posting stuff on TH-cam yet and who like to comment how awful the chargers are and the P42DC's are better
    Remember that in the early 1990's, every railbuff and their mother hated the P42DC's and prefered the F40PH's and P30CH's over them for the same reasons you hate the Chargers (Ugly, claiming it would jump the rails any given moment, shouldn't be hauling passengers). They also said the same thing about the F40PH's, FP45's and P30CH's back when they first came on the rails in the 60's and 70's and said how prettier the F and E units were
    This is a generational gripe people have when they can't accept change in the transportation industry.
    Maybe because I love model trains by LGB and PIKO who made models of various German locomotives similar to the Siemens Chargers and Vectors as to why I like these.
    Besides it's not about just looks of a locomotive that mean it's a success, it's how it performs and runs that defines success.
    Let these locomotives do their stuff once they enter service and decide for yourselves on if you like them or not.
    Not to mention they aren't replacing the P42DC's, a seperate locomotive is likely to replace those on long distance services as the Chargers aren't suited for long distance travel
    Chill down y'all

      @eeyore.official 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      People are allowed to have their own opinions on the Charger- maybe YOU need to chill down. It's not just a generational gripe, you even said you like it because its similar to European trains. For those of us who prefer the typical "American train"- THIS is absolutely not it- and therefore a VALID reason to prefer the F59/P42s. It's also putting you in an absolutely terrible spot to assume everyone who disagrees with you is "8-11 years old," when that simply isn't the case. Not everyone has to like the Charger- which was only implemented because the federal government is overzealous with their regulations. This would not exist if the EPA wasn't corrupt and full of shit.

    I like the way it looks. However will take a while to get used to the sound of fast running diesel engines, same as with the F125. Then I am wondering why they are ordering 125 mph locomotives, when most tracks in the country still are authorized for 79 mph only. Even on the Lincoln service top speed is only 110 mph. But a fine locomotive for sure.

      The San Joaquin will soon be rerouted onto a brand new 200mph high speed line between Fresno and Bakersfield which has been under construction for a couple years already (search "California High Speed Rail update" in TH-cam), but the line will not be electrified for many years in the future since for now it's just an isolated segment. In the meantime Amtrak will be running as fast as they can with diesel locomotives, which is where this new 125mph beast comes in.

      I don't know the rules in America but here in Britain, the maximum speed with trackside signalling is 125 mph.
      To go faster as a routine needs in-cab signalling. Also needs overhead electrification (In our case 25kv AC).
      At the moment we only have HS1 which comes from the Channel Tunnel to ST Pancras Station in London.
      Maximum speed is 186 mph I think.

      Well, I am happy to say that Amtrak uses these locomotives for California, Midwest and Cascades service, and Amtrak is ordering 125 ALC-42 variants of these chargers for long distance services like the Zephyr. 2 or 3 of these long distance chargers are currently in service with more expected in the future, and a dual mode variant called the ALC-42E will also be built with Amtrak's order of new corridor rolling stock to replace the Amfleet 1s and the Talgo 6 sets that were retired from the Cascades service. The ALC-42E locomotives will be used in NEC service to avoid time consuming locomotive swaps. So, you bet they're gonna use these Chargers, a LOT! Sure, it sucks that the F59PHI was retired, and the Genesis will also be going adios, but I think it's for the best for Amtrak, the Genesis are getting hard to maintain, and just aren't as fuel efficient and can spew out a lot of emissions unlike the Chargers. But, hopefully one or more will be preserved.

    No amount of cab ugliness could subdue my excitement at a new 125mph diesel locomotive for North America! I wonder if we'll get any in Canada, after all we did end up with a bunch of its predecessors the P42DC and the F40PH. Then again, we've had 125mph diesels since the 1970s (TurboTrain and LRC), but still none of our tracks allow more than 100 mph.

The new Hitachi IEP train that goes in service in UK later this year have top speed of 140 mph but will only do 125 until all the tracks have been upgraded

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      MARC's passenger cars are rated for 125 MPH. I don't think any other commuter rail equipment in this country is certified for that speed and that's the goal they're trying to achieve in CO.

    • @Nouvellecosse
      @Nouvellecosse 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's extremely interesting. I've heard that MARC has the continent's fastest commuter rail before, but I figured it was the higher track quality or because there were longer distances between stops. I didn't know the actual rolling stock was higher speed

    • @MJofLakelandX
      @MJofLakelandX 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The MARC Penn Line primarily is suppose to be the fastest regional commuter [non- Amtrak] service in the country and the distance between stops are pretty vast in distance. When it comes to sharing the same tracks with Acela Express, these MARC cars can't lag behind to keep-up a pretty tight interval between the various services along the NEC. Plus it's stretches over a long distance (practically the length of the state) while keeping a 90+ minute schedule cycle.

      And Amtrak already has the P42DC. What's your point exactly?

    • @AllAboardAudio.
      @AllAboardAudio. 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The P32DC-AM is a dual mode locomotive that uses both DC and AC currents. The P42DC uses only DC currents. It is not needed for Metro North to order another dual mode locomotive, as it will seem redundant...

    • @PikalaxALT
      @PikalaxALT 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no such thing as the P32DC-AM. Just saying.
      The P32AC-DM, on the other hand, does exist and is of similar age to the P42DC which the Chargers are to succeed in Amtrak's fleet. So why does it make sense for Amtrak to get the Chargers to replace their aging P42DC fleet, but not for Metro-North to do likewise for their P32AC-DMs?

  • @amtrakamerica1913
    @amtrakamerica1913 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hmm. I see several important design flaws. The cab window is swing in, so it would obstruct some panels. Also if the locomotive hit a truck and the window was blown in, this could cause injury to the engineer. Also there isn't any side plates to protect the equipment under the prow. The vents are so big that it can actually compromise the overall strength of the car body.
