From a Canadian, I salute these soldiers. Had to fight a war nobody wanted so never got recognition they deserved.
My American dad came back from there broken and an alcoholic. He's better now, but it took him until his 70's to snap out of it. All for "freedom and democracy" - the same line they sucker the young kids in with to this day.

I was there in ‘69 and that obscene corrupt war stays with me through the yrs. I wrote my memoirs primarily for my grandson, family
and close friends to better understand what happened to me over there. My son paid me the highest compliment he could…he had it published illustrated with my photos.

I lost my cousin in Vietnam. January 1969. 9th Infantry Division. He and his platoon were being inserted by Hueys in what the Army called a “quiet” LZ. The Hueys were coming in and had hardly touched down when the whole LZ opened up with heavy enemy gunfire. My cousin was killed running for cover. He was in country only 6 weeks. RIP PFC CHARLES THOMAS.
@stevejump9630 Condolences to your cousin. Thank you for remembering the fallen.
What a great job that was done with this film. It's clear and concise. I'm no stranger to Viet-Nam. I arrived there on Oct. 23, 1967, with my battalion, 3rd battalion 503 Parachute Infantry Regiment (same regiment that took Corregidor from the Japanese in WW2 by parachute assault). This film is high quality, especially the bush shots. I'd like to have one of my own times there. After my tour with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, I returned to the 'Nam' as an advisor with the Vietnamese Airborne Division advisory team MACV 162. Twenty months in Viet-Nam total. Greetings to all you paratroopers there in this film. Just turned 76 this year and all family and most friends are all gone now. No officer here, just an enlisted man. Peace to All!

This is the best video about the Vietnam War I have ever seen. I grew up watching it on TV and learned much about it as a soldier in the US Army. I was a newbie to the Army as an 18-year-old in 1978, and my unit was full of Vietnam veterans who told me stories, many of them horrific. I have long since retired from the military. My much older brother-in-law was in the thick of it. He never talks about it. He has only told me small parts of his experience that tell me he was in the worst of the war. I have been retired for a long time and live in Thailand, next to Vietnam. I have asked my sister to ask my brother-in-law where he was. I want to visit these places, maybe as a pilgrimage, to honor my brother-in-law who fought in that terrible war.

2:53 speaking from experience, those milspec machetes are terrible. In a Medieval melee, maybe not too bad. Stiff blade, capable of parrying, no hand protection tho. For brush you want a long, thin, wide blade. The US military machete is too thick, too heavy, too short, plus the handle is big/poorly shaped. It would be better for chopping down trees and splitting wood, maybe
Good introduction text, proper historians. The speaking by the narrator was a good clip choice to; from the period and poignant. Good use of footage, tho at times it was tough to hear the song and the people at once. Nice to see some new footage

Dear Tim,
Have been punched and kicked many times in the head and I was alright.
But on March 15th Sunday just about the start of the lock down these two Chicago Women, one of them got her wallet stolen when I sent them up to buy their own beer. Now, I was not happy, because they had to fly back to the States in a few days.
Then Monday 16th I met this real nice London couple.
We talked, played guitar, I gave him my cans of beer, bummed tobacco off the Man.
Then at the end he took me down to store to buy me cans of Guinness.
Then at counter.
He realised that someone had stolen his wallet. Then when he checked his card on his phone, well, whatever snake did that had already bleeped money out of his account.
Fuck me.
I have been punched and kicked in the skull many times,
But I tell you boy, every time, I remember those two Chicago Women and the London couple getting burgularised.
Fuck me, that it like a really good punch in the head.
I feel dazed and stunned and ashamed of myself.
Am not a happy Man. 😐

Those Hueys at 4:11 are not Cav. They are from the 114th Asslt. Hel. Co. Knights out of Vinh Long
My unit in 69-70.
The Hueys in that sequence are from the 227th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Cav Division. You can tell by the silver bird (with the raised wings) on the nose. The yellow lightning bolt on the cockpit doors was also a 227th AHB trademark. The Cav marked most of their Hueys with different colored geometric designs on their doors. Green was 227th AHB, Blue was 229th AHB, 1/9 Cav was yellow. A triangle was A Co. or troop, a square was B Co. or troop, a circle was C Co. or troop, and the diamond shape was D Co. or troop. I was a pilot with B and D Co. 227th in 1966-67. FYI, the green geometric designs with the yellow lightning bolts are still being used by the 227th Avn. Regiments based at Ft. Hood.
Those Hueys at 4:19 are not "cav", they're from the 2nd Lift Platoon (White Knights) 114th Asslt. Hel. Co. out of Vinh Long. I flew as a crew chief with the 1st Platoon (Red Knights) 69-70.
Those Hueys are from the 227th AHB (Assault Helicopter Battalion), 1st Cav. Div. The silver eagle, on the nose, with the raised wings is their insignia. Additionally, their Hueys had a yellow lightning bolt on the cockpit doors. I was a pilot with the 227th from Nov. 66 to Nov. 67.

@@leahcim59 I totally disagree. I did two tours of duty in Vietnam. We did our duty, had some outstanding soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen. However, most of the servicemen who fought in Vietnam were draftees. Acouple months Basic training, acouple months AIT (Advanced Individual Training), 30 days leave......then Vietnam. We became professionals as a result of " on the job training".
The military today is made up of Professionals from top to bottom. They are people who volunteered for service, and are extremely well-trained, extremely well-equipped, extremely smart, and extremely ready. AND, overall, they have much better leadership than we did. (my opinion)

The # of KIAs in-country, is north of 58,000. When I visited the Wall (Jan84) the # was +292; it may be more now, with remains coming home...😢. Not a Vietnam Veteran myself, but many of my senior NCOs were. My time was 6/81-6/85 [USMC] + 14 more years in USAR. Studying our war in Vietnam truly broke my heart.😢
To all who returned...
Welcome Home. To those who didn't make it back, we will never forget you. Thankyou one and all for your sacrifices.
Version two was when the Biden regime left Afghanistan! They never learn. Been there. Done that! Hooah and thanks to everyone who made it back and those who did not and those that came back but never left it behind. It would be so nice the have peace everywhere. When will the human race ever grow up?

Nice work, but your background music is too dang loud.

It is extremely annoying when you are posting a documentary and the people that is interested and want to watch it cannot hear what's being said cuz you haven't overlaid and stupid ass songs what is the point of it and then you're talking a lot through it so why do you post videos like that we all we can go by is what we are to see it deception from the depiction of what they're doing in the video other than that we hear you talking and loud music
Yeah 1st Cav the horse they never rode and the line they never crossed and the color is the reason why.

absolutely ridiculous. the end is a farewell love song by young boy dedicated to his girl. it’s not a war song by any means.

The Hollow Men
TS Eliot
I. We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar
Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralyzed force, gesture without motion;
Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Remember us-if at all-not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.
II
Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death's dream kingdom
These do not appear:
There, the eyes are
Sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are
In the wind's singing
More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star.
Let me be no nearer
In death's dream kingdom
Let me also wear
Such deliberate disguises
Rat's coat, crowskin, crossed staves
In a field
Behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer-
Not that final meeting
In the twilight kingdom
III
This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man's hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.
Is it like this
In death's other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.
IV
The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms
In this last of meeting places
We grope together
And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river
Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death's twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.

What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?
- Only the monstrous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.
No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells;
Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,-
The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
And bugles calling for them from sad shires.
What candles may be held to speed them all?
Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes
Shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes.
The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;
Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,
And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.

My husband served with the 101st. Just a kid, 19 years old. Didn't talk about it for 40 years. Cancer from Agent Orange.100% disabled Complex PTSD. All for nothing.
I'm sure you got MONEY from that. And for you to say it was for "Nothing" He served his Country! So, you can OPEN say that with free speech about a HERO and collect Money. You Voted for Kamalla and the FUDD WALTS I BET The guy was in WAR yeah cannot load a Shotgun .
@@kevinflorer1211 I was also in the 101st. Served as a combat engineer for 18 months in Vietnam. Didn't come home a hero. While boarding a plane going home a fat woman hefting a baby, called me a baby killer, while dumping the contents of a baby bottle on my uniform. Kevin, you know what that smells like when it dries. I had to buy a t-shirt and pair of pants, clean myself the best I could in a restroom in the airport. Because of the smell I was forced to throw my soiled uniform into a garbage can. Kevin, you know what hurt the most? Not one person in that airport offered assistance or condolences for what happened. I'm also 100% disabled, and have spent the remainder of my life trying to find a purpose why we were there. Know what I've concluded Kevin? All for nothing.
