After TBS saw that creepy promo they ordered Russo to stop using that character. So Russo told Dustin they have to stop it and they went for a shoot.

We're talking a decade where the exorcist was considered one of the scariest movies of all time, but pails in comparison to the things we consider scary now. I know I'm late to the game but I must express that I feel like Dustin Rhodes is such a confident, creative genius. IMO. I thank my lucky stars he is who he is because he's actually inspiring to me. I admit that at the time I didn't fully appreciate the true level of individuality and expertise that made what he did possible. But looking back nowadays, I'm thankful for people like him with a true passion of wrestling entertainment. He showed us what is possible.

I never knew about 7 until a few tears ago. I was wondering why the hell it didnt work out.. I was under the impression that Rhodes hated it. Just by what he was saying on the debut of 7. I never thought he liked it. Let alone created the character. Would have been nice to see that character grow like he said.

Sting really only ever just came straight down on one cable. To have Dustin attached to 2 cables, lift him up, move him from the ramp to the ring, lift him up again and then set him down in the ring....the precise movement and amount of rigging that would take would no doubt be costly...you know, if you wanted to hire professionals to do it
I seen it as a cross of Dark City and Powder. But I love how when Dark Order was recruiting, they told Dustin he could be #7 as a kick to the character. Seven would have worked well with Undertaker's Ministry. It would work great now, as a heel, have Darby turn on Sting, and join Seven, as his protege

That segment I watched live as it aired and to this day to this very moment that I am here watching this video I maintained in my minds eye that he didn’t really (for the most part) break kafabe and dump on everything that we loved about Dustin throughout his career! (Again for the most part) Because it hurt me as a fan! I think they're mainly on RoH now and are back to being heels, but I don't watch RoH and from what I've seen they are still a shell of what they were. Hell, over half of the group is gone and they're down to like 3 (possibly 4) members I think not counting negative one. Anyway, if not Dark Order leader, I would have at least liked to have seen a one-off return for Halloween or something. Would have been super nostalgic and probably gone down it history much like it did back in WCW. Everyone remembers Seven because the character was loaded to the brim with Mystique.

Golddust with Marlena is my favorite wrestler ever. Marlena especially. Terri is a beautiful woman 😍 But Golddust for his time was so outlandish and odd. Definitely Dustin's best gimmick.

Anyways, who cares about what Cornette thinks only? There are others in the business who have just as important, if not more important input to give. Not like Cornette ever had a hand in booking or writing some of the most watched TV segments, matches and PPVs unlike the guy he's been jealous of for nearly three decades.

So TV guidelines screwed us out of a character gimmick inspired by Dark City and that would have involved a young Cody Rhodes in storyline vignettes? Geez.
The Rhodes (aka Runnels) had no family pride with Dustin as painted face Gold Dust; Dusty in polka dot briefs; and Cody as Star Dust.
It was always going to be compared to undertaker because of the hat and cost. Should have went another route
I honestly do not believe this story. It makes no sense to completely kill the character. There was something else to this.
