You had me in stitches over the unicorn chair - maybe matching it with the feather-duster lamp, or whatever that foam treasure-chest thing is (or, all three together, with some vapid sign hanging over them), would make for an interesting design statement. ;)

“Stay gold” is a reference S.E. Hinton’s acclaimed novel “The Outsiders,” published in 1967. The line itself, “Stay gold, Ponyboy,” is a reference the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost, which is recited and discussed by the characters at an earlier point in the book. The poem and it’s subsequent acknowledgment serve as a framing device for the character arch of the book’s protagonist, Ponyboy.

The thing that’s fun about Homegoods is the dig. I enjoy going through the crap to find the jewel. But I’m glad you touched on the cookware. I bought a set of Cuisinart cast iron enameled pots in my 20’s as Le Creuset was way beyond my budget and the Cuisinart is as close as it gets. I’ve had them for about 15 years now and they’re still great. I’m a big cook and the cookware is my primary focus for any Homegoods trip.

I would suggest perhaps you might slow down just a tad bit. It feels as though the hour glass is about to explode with an urgency beyond time itself. Your advice is wonderful. The way you suggest or do not suggest different styles or certain ways of presenting ones furniture choices is very unique. I simply love your sense of humor coupled with a dash of class, your channel is priceless. Thank you for allowing us to benefit from the apparent years of your knowledge within the decorating business. I have been an interior decorator for the past 45yrs. all of which only proves to mean I have helped others push their belongings around the room until they were happy. Or helped them throw away and replace like ideas & things of such. But never have I heard or have I enjoyed listening to someone discuss decorating as much as I have found myself enjoying your advice , while looking forward to your next video and the next & the next. Thank you so very much. I have even picked up a few things from your offerings. So I thought this old dog could not be taught new tricks. But boy oh boy was I wrong. Thank you again and you might pick upone from this old dog and slow down just a bit. It would be alot easier for those who might be taking notes to keep up! 🧐✨

Your admitted delight in making fun of stuff is refreshing and adorable. So fun. Btw, we have both HomeGoods and HomeSense in the US (at least here in New Jersey) but they are different. HomeSense has more furniture and less household goods and HomeGoods is the opposite. I love them both and have found some great buys there. Home Goods has a nice gourmet food section. I’ve seen lots of interesting international stuff that makes for fun gifts. Also, they’ve always got stuff to organize with, especially stuff that’s geared to women (makeup lazy susan, jewelry box, etc.). There’s a lot of farmhouse and glam stuff at my Home Goods, but they also have a lot of costal decorations and they have blown glass all the time.

What makes me laugh is that 5 yrs ago, Rae Dunn was like the ‘IT’ brand. I used to work at Marshall’s and we would have people waiting outside to buy our inventory. They would buy it discounted at Marshall’s and then sell it for profit online. But now it’s so commonly found that their worth has seriously gone down.
Also, YES on the cookware! Found a 10 piece all clad set for like $70 usd over the holidays. Didn’t buy it, but I’ve found similar deals fairly often.

Dude I love homegoods! I really appreciate the wide selection of styles, even if many of them aren’t for me. There’s no store where I’ll want to buy eeeveerryyy item, I don’t consider only 10% of their inventory appealing to me a bad thing.
I love that they sometimes get good teas, and nice cocktail glass options, I also like many of their handmade wood items. The instant-skip is the framed art section. Neither are the pieces my style, nor am I into mass produced meaningless art. The only exception was that one time they had a 2.5 m tall “painting” (print on canvas with faux brush strokes) of an elk in a big gold frame. It was so over the top and gaudy that it crossed over into glorious territory. I would’ve picked that up in a heartbeat had I known what to do with it.

I enjoy scoping out the food selection at Homesense! There’s usually a great selection of condiments and spices. I’ve occasionally found an interesting cookbook, although the pickings have been slim of late. The toiletry section can also reveal good finds; the liquid soap I favour and would otherwise have to buy at a high-end store can sometimes be found at Homesense for half the price. I always browse through the linens, and have purchased sheet sets - during one visit, I found two sets of authentic Fendi sheets that must have fallen off a truck! Otherwise, it’s a miss. Thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable video. One more thing: we’ll never truly revive the ‘70s until we resuscitate disco, baby!

The whole 'words on everything' always reminds me of the "Hundred years of solitude" where the entire village started to lose their memories and it had to be managed by labelling everything.
"When his father told him about his alarm at having forgotten even the most impressive happenings of his childhood, Aureliano explained his method to him […] with an inked brush he marked everything with its name: table, chair, clock, door, wall, bed, pan. He went to the corral and marked the animals and plants: cow, goat, pig, hen, cassava, caladium, banana. Little by little, studying the infinite possibilities of a loss of memory, he realized that the day might come when things would be recognized by their inscriptions but that no one would remember their use. Then he was more explicit. The sign that he hung on the neck of the cow was an exemplary proof of the way in which the inhabitants of Macondo were prepared to fight against loss of memory: "This is the cow. She must be milked every morning so that she will produce milk, and the milk must be boiled in order to be mixed with coffee to make coffee and milk." Thus they went on living in a reality that was slipping away, momentarily captured by words, but which would escape irremediably when they forgot the values of the written letters. (3.14)"

This is my favorite video I've seen of yours. I had to pause here and comment on the Rae Dunn section. Because I also have to laugh, it reminds me when I was teaching my 4 year olds how to read. As a pre reading literacy skill, I literally printed out labels and labeled all the things in our house. Door, chair, bookshelf, basket. Etc. Hey it worked. My kids have always been above grade level in reading. Now only if I had thought to monetize that concept, like you said. I will say one other thing and that is I do love the font she choose and I a sucker for anything white, so... That’s what I do and when I walk into the different rooms, I smile. I never liked the distressed stuff, until I had my later kids. Now I have one or two pieces that are, because my kids are hard on them. I paint them every few months, but embrace the scratches. Everyone thinks it’s a style choice, but it’s out of Necessity. For holidays I have some of those little signs that say something, and they make me smile. Both my in laws and myself moved into new houses, next door. I'm decorating mine more modern black, skinny, functional and clean lines. She's doing farmhouse/rustic and every time she gets another distressed piece of furniture or another sign or rae dunn "decor" she asks me if I like it or if it looks good and I'm always torn because she loves it, she loves her "blessed" signs, her pigs and cows pictures/figurines so I say it looks great, just not my taste but I feel I won't be able to hide the look on my face forever. The look she gives me is like she sees right thru my polite answer and tells me how popular it is and it's so trendy right now like I'm somehow behind on the times. I love that she loves her farmhouse decor but I literally cannot stand it. It's so predictable and tries so hard to be authentic that it's actually cookie cutter decor. she will pick little extras out and ask me if I want them and I always appreciate the thought but I can't accept it bc she comes over a lot and will never see it up or used, I have a feeling I will be saying, "it's nice but just doesn't match my decor/style, thank you tho!" for the next year. Vent session over. 🤣

I totally agree with you on the predictable and cookie cutter farm style decor, which I have steered away from, but I must also admit that sleek modern can be pretty predictable too and can be quite cold if you go ultra modern. Don't get me wrong, I like the clean lines of modern furniture but, one major turn off is that you can practically find the same decorating elements in every one's home no matter where they shop. For me, an ecclectic style (mixing old with new) is much more challenging and has an element of surprise because it's not a trend. High end designers tend to have this style in their homes, if you notice. But to each its own, as they say.

Love your slightly mean (but still well-intentioned) sense of humor! I enjoyed the laughs in between learning some things. Your humor keeps me watching.

HomeSense is kind of like thrift shopping. Hit or miss and you have to exercise caution. It's excellent for bedding, towels, baskets and dishes

Our thrift shops in the Netherlands are also full of farm house stuff!!! 🤣 So prob feels the same.

Agreed. I like to stroll around and double-take at some of the stuff, but I don't buy towels anywhere else, and I've found a few cookware gems in there.

That's a close comparison, but I'd lean more toward it being "kind of" area. I usually can find one or two items per trip to Home Goods, but it might take two or three trips before I make a hit at the thrift.

"Stay gold, Ponyboy." - from The Outsiders, uttered by a dying Johnny Cade (played by Ralph Macchio). Otherwise - I don't know.

At a dept store back last year with hubby, I was just scanning the items to see what’s there…husband saw this huge ostrich feather lamp, ( not even my style), he leans in and says” if that ever shows up in our house, I promise u I will shoot it down and pluck it to the bone! “ Which was hilarious to me because he’s a chef , always focused on gourmet cookware and generally doesn’t even make remarks like that! All I could think was if he commented on it…must really be a no!!!!!

I have some large black throw pillows with feathers around the edge! Very Glam! When my Man saw them he was speechless! 🤣🤣🤣 They we’re perfect in the extra dinningroom chairs that were in the livingroom! I glammed up the livingroom!

I love Home Goods for kitchen ware. They often have great quality pots and pans for a fraction of the regular price. They also have a great selection of organization bins (like for the fridge and drawers) that are the exact same brand as BB&B for less than half $. I've also gotten great deals on bedding (pillows & blankets), table linens (selection varies greatly by season), and yes, pet toys. It's an easy place to spend a lot on garbage you don't need, so always ship with a list 😉

The pet stuff is actually really great! Decent deals on toys and other stuff like pet shampoo! I got clocked in the marble effect trash can but in my defence I’ve had it 10+ years and it’s a fine trash can so I’ve kept it despite it not being very stylish 😅

I have no issues with a faux marble trash can or other things! I have bigger issues to battle! 🤣

I have a bunch of the Rae Dunn cat dishes from Home Sense, and they’re fantastic. 😂 They’re actually really great for cats with whisker sensitivity, and they’re the only dishes my cat without teeth can easily eat from. (It has to do with the shape and slope.)

Omg the amount of the live laugh love vibe at home goods the last 5 years!!! 🤢 it actually had begun to anger me. I’m glad I’m wearing a mask when I’m browsing the aisles. Haha. 😷 ❤️

If my husband sees anything like that at work, he sends me a picture and tells his coworkers to wait for my response. It's usually in all caps and has many swear words and barf faces. His coworkers are jealous his wife isnt a "wine is life" "live laugh love" person and I feel validated af.

I love the way you tell it like it is, no BS. I absolutely agree with your observation in regards to the wine signs. I have a background in psychology & decades of experience in the field of mental health. Professionally, you hit the 🎯. Posting a sign highlighting alcohol is a trait that is not positive. Not to mention, as you pointed out, it is just plain tacky.
Obviously, that’s just my opinion. Farmhouse is not for me at all.
