"Again, if you love it, put it in your home. But please don't." Quote of the century. Always love your great advice with a sense of humour!
I loved that so much.
I love you Nick
The best!!!!😂😂😂
"If you like ugly, by all means, put it in your home". Ive heard him say that too. Lol 😂😂
Yes I love him/ the comments as well!
“I can appreciate that these things bring people joy. And I’m here to crap on that joy.” All-time Nick. Bravo!
“If it’s made of sawdust, and hopes and dreams…” omg 😂😂😂
That sounds like my life.
Bahaha omg. Sawdust...and hopes and dreams
😂😂❤
I'm pretty sure that's what my old book case was made of. It fell to pieces when we tried to move it from our previous home, so I guess the dreams weren't good enough.
Was just going to comment on that and saw that you already did lol. THE BEST STATEMENT EVER.
No need to even BUY the outdoor umbrellas cause Nick is throwing all the shade we need.
My favorite line will always and forever be "Again, if you love it put it in your home but please don't." 😂😂😂
Ikea: assemblable with 3 screws, some pegs, and an allen wrench. Assembly is streamilned for the dummies like me..
Wayfair - required several sizes allen wrench, ratchet socket wrenches, flathead and phillips screwdrivers, several shots of whiskey, and several days to assemble a pair of dressers.
OMG, you gave them to your Mom? The owner of the best paper towel holder in this world? That is comedy and I love it.
“Why? I make the rules, it’s my TH-cam channel.” - Nick on the lewd gnomes
Hahahahahahha
The "not buy this are not listed because I don't like them"....thanks Nick I was drinking water that I snorted out of my nose.... 😂❤
You don't get those links! 😂
Why do posters have so much trouble containing their fluids?
My husband and I have bought pieces from Wayfair before that have said solid wood and were definitely particle board... I would definitely suggest reading any reviews and to still be aware when buying from the site
How shady!
“ I literally got rid of these outdoor chairs. Well, actually, I didn’t. I gave them to my mother so she could get zapped.”😮⚡️ 😂😂😂 Classic Nick. ❤
Poor mom. Does she know why she has those chairs? Did he tell her the truth?? Lolol

And Nick's better too!😁

A whole video on what's probably freaking out Chinese factory workers please.
Oh my god the Calgary comment had me cackling. As a former Calgary resident I can confirm this is exactly what everyone's painted patio furniture looks like
immediately thought "He just outed himself as a Calgarian" because.. who else would know that except ppl who've lived here... ( me.)??
Thanks, Nick! good advice to us, to be persistent when doom scrolling Wayfair, as a diamond can be found. "Who hurt you?" is now my favourite Nick-ism applied to design. I love your channel, and I re-watch them all, cheers!
"Why would you do that? Who hurt you?" Nick always makes me laugh out loud 😂
I rewatch them too mainly for the laughs 👍
I used to sell outdoor furniture... In the deep suburbs of Calgary! Here we go:
1. Agree on the sunbrella fabric. Amazing. I would not buy any outdoor furniture requiring fabric without sunbrella, and they have amazing colour options.
2. Plastic rattan: a bit ugly and icky, but very necessary here in Calgary. Unless you can store your furniture indoors, the perpetual freeze-thaw Chinook cycle that happens 2-6 times a month causes moisture to soak into natural fibers(wood, rattan, cotton/linen) during warm periods(Chinook), and then freeze - the water expands and causes cracks. Even covered, the moisture still gets in and freezes. We sold natural woods and wicker furniture, however it was either for indoor use or it had to be stored indoors over the winter - and that much storage space is luxurious. Plastic/acrylic/metal doesn't suffer from that, unless you paint it and then, well, you get bistro table - which may look like 40 years of neglect but that really looked more like 2 Calgarian winters worth of neglect. (it's also why the roads here suck - most places experience one or two freeze-thaw cycles per winter whereas we get multiple years' worth of freeze-thaw cycles in one winter)
Outdoor furniture is tough here because products that may work well in places like Vancouver would fall apart in Calgary in a couple of winters.
But all in all, agree with you here. One day I hope I can invest in some nice pieces but until then, garage sale specials for my home!
Environment counts for a lot. That’s why we have tiki huts and gazebos in Southern Florida that local Native Americans build for us as they’ve been doing for a thousand years or more. They’re exclusively licensed to build them and they’re so beautiful.
I posted a very similar comment regarding the plastic rattan material but for the opposite scenario: I'm in Florida and the extremely high moisture levels and heat totally requires that you either store your furniture indoors (which as you point out - is basically impossible unless you have a mansion, lol) or buy the plastic rattan. Even covering it won't save true wood materials outdoors!
Nick, can you do a fun video on how some people have way too many lawn ornaments of all different themes.
My sister in law has a 3 feet tall plastic grizzly bear standing next to a 1 foot tall plastic precious moments girl. Why ? And that’s just one example. Makes my head explode ! Ugh !! Lol
Stay away from my giant zebra and my tiny flamingo! 😆
I hate the Dollarama puked on my yard…decor 🤢
He roasts inflatable Christmas decorations, one of which he showcased that I own. Every year I put it up and think how Nick would hate my Tropical themed Christmas. ♥️
Your sister and I share the same sick sense of humor. Love the grizzly towering over the child.
Wait until Christmas! 😂
Some decades ago, in France, in the whole country, we had a " Garden Gnome gang" who used to steal every gnome they found in the gardens..just because they hated them. Then, they returned all the gnomes to the police...😅
The thieves were simply doing their civic duty - good for them ! 😂
That was because of the movie Amelie. They were taking the gnomes on vacations and sending photos home.
I am not a nome fan …but I don’t have the right to take them from anyone
I met a marine biologist in the Côte d’Azur who was distressed by neglected gnomes not being fed. He and his friends would go into peoples’ gardens at night and leave the gnomes food and drink. Draping spaghetti over their little shoulders, etc.
@@Lisa-jm3nk 😂 very nice !
One horrifying thing about neon thatch outdoor umbrellas is that there's a market for them. In these uncertain economic times, all our new furniture is made of hopes and dreams.
It just screams tacky
“A bit theme-y” lol!!!!
It's the outlandish post modernism style of intentionally being shocking, vulgar, intense, etc. And also for those who can afford to buy rather than rent for a theme lawn party. BTW, after you're drunk it might look better. Or, worse, in which case it may be a great way to get people to leave the party and go nurse their hangovers in their own homes instead of vomiting on your lawn furniture.😅
It looks like a piñata. So when all your drunk middle aged frat boy friends come over to your tiki bar, you know the sticks are coming out at some point to see what falls out of it. And you’re going to find someone passed on the lawn wearing it like a toga the next morning.
@@justapasserby,it would be amusing if a squirrel ran out of it at that time. 🤣
😂🤣😂 I love that gnome! My best advice for “real” furniture that is affordable is to follow Nick’s advice while shopping at estate sales and Facebook Marketplace personally. People get rid of some of the most amazing pieces of furniture when they downsize or are tired of it!
True!
Nick makes me laugh more than most comedians
Nick IS a comedian.. who just HAPPENS to have some great style sense. 😅
I have a son, 34 yrs old also named Nik..he is in the CAF. I am an avid gardener. He told me years ago that if I put a gnome in the garden he would do away with it. I believe him, and never would. They are so awful. Thanks so much for the intelligent but hilarious review of design items. You always elevate my day.
I have gnomes in my garden. But mine are badass, because they are tiny and holding machine guns.
“If you love it, put it in your home. But please don’t.” 😂😂😂
Oh my! I had no idea that gnomes were gnaughty now. This could be a whole video: Should You Decorate Your Garden? Think jockeys, cement woodland creatures, bird condos, sleeping cherub cupids, modern art, glass orbs, wind chimes, cow skulls, Aztec clay suns, fountains and bird baths, and rugs and fireplaces. Yay or nay Nick? :)
OMIGOD, I haven’t laughed so hard in ages as I did about your gnome hatred!!! I ADORE your sense of humour, and, your great content! Thank~you for the larfs, and, keep up the fab work!!! 🤣😂🩷
Agree with you, I hate the distressed look, it usually looks dirty to me, not a natural used look. Love your sense of humor, made me smile through the whole video 😊
It’s actually an extension of both Calvinist culture in France first and then later Shaker practice in the United States. Both religions believe that waste is sinful and that when cutting trees down for wood to make furniture people have taken a gift provided to man from G-d so when a piece of furniture becomes old and beyond the point of being worthy of re-stained, if still possible both groups believe in preserving the piece if it can be painted and that’s why there’s so much authentic French and Shaker furniture that’s painted but still in structurally strong condition as neither group would build anything but quality workmanship for the reason that the would was a gift.
Anyway that’s where the original style has its origins.
Sending my best.
I do like old furniture, I have a lot of it. I just don’t like when new furniture comes with a distressed look to make it look old.
We need more of these for Wayfair. Because you know we look there a lot…
And they should REALLY pay attention to Nick.
Nick - to me you are the funniest TH-camr! “ …. Made of sawdust, hopes and dreams…” fave line of this video!!!
Nick is high on my list of TH-cam crushes.
I’ve said it before, now I’ll say it again: “Gnomes are creepy.” Their beady eyes follow you everywhere, as do they. If you are in a garden, a department store, someone’s home; turn around and there’s a gnome, staring out at you from under its weird pointy hat….creepy
My son was so creeped out by the whole- elf on the shelf. It was not cute in the least to him
Agreed! And elf on the shelf is straight up creepy nome! He's at least a cousin.
I can just tell that pink boucle is the same acrylic pink boucle my dogs bed is made from.
@@dakat1726 Did you ever read the book? Oh my! I started reading it to my granddaughter and stopped a short way into it. Scary….I believe the so-called “elf”, is a young gnome without the beard. 😗 Act normally around them. Then, take your son’s advise; RUN
Years ago, I was the Advancement Chairperson for our sons’ Cub Scout Pack. It was a very large pack, with several dens, so there were loads of badges, belt loops, stars, arrow points, etc. to track for advancement purposes. At the end of the year, there was always an awards ceremony to celebrate the scouts’ advancements, as well as to honor the adults who put in long hours. The Pack leader asked me to come to the stage, where he discussed my time and efforts, and then ‘awarded’ me with a garden gnome! What the flip! It was the ugliest, creepiest thing I’d ever seen, and now I was holding this heavy 10-inch tall resin abomination ‘award’. Of course, I graciously accepted it. I placed it in my side yard, out by some ferns, hoping the weather would give it a gradual death. A year later, I received ANOTHER one of these hideous gnomes. Now I had two that I exposed to the elements. FIFTEEN years went by, and they both continued to look like they were brand new, probably because I’d placed them on the north side of the house, where they got no direct sunlight.
My husband’s job was being transferred nearly 1,000 miles away. What to do with the gnomes? While walking our dog each evening, I noticed a yard (about a mile away) in the neighborhood, where the homeowner had collected and displayed a number of gnomes. Over the years, she’d cycle out the old, weathered, and chipped fellows with replacements. I kept telling my husband that my little ‘monsters’ would look right at home with their ‘brethren’. Aha! My gnomes would have a new home after all, and it wouldn’t be with us 1,000 miles away. I wrote a silly anonymous note (I didn’t identify myself) to the homeowner, in the ‘voice’ of the larger gnome, explaining how they were at risk for pending abandonment, and if they could possibly be adopted and welcomed into the existing family in their front yard garden? I rolled the note, rubber-banded it to the large gnome, walked over to their house in the dead of night, and placed both gnomes on their front door mat, so they were the first thing greeting the neighbors when they picked up their morning newspaper. We drove by the house a few days later as we were leaving the city for our last time, and yes, they were welcomed into the ‘family’!
It’s been nearly 6 years since our move. Our adult son, who still lives in that city, will occasionally drive through the old neighborhood, and he reports that the two gnomes are still present in the yard, and continue to look just as new as ever - no chips, no cracks, no color fading.
For my Victorian styled home I purchased traditional style plastic white rattan, or wicker. It's now 22 years young! Sturdy as ever and fits the style of my home. Stays outside year round... its what you like... the real stuff would be a disaster, falling apart and needing to be painted. I hosing off after the pollen and it's bright white again ❤ never got a shock
I love your channel because it reaffirms that I’m basically RIGHT about everything design. And your delivery is hilarious. 😂
A giant maple tree’s canopy beats a big umbrella. A lush yard as a patio beats a concrete slab. People often under value what nature provides for free. I enjoy your “buy this not that” videos.
I have giant maples, elms, tulip poplars and I still need my sunbrella umbrellas on my stone patio next to my lush yard. Go figure
Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone had big trees and lush yards?
@@janicetribbiani7535 And no branches or sticks or nuts fell off those trees?
Great idea! Where do I get a 75 year old tree?
Wouldn't recommend this tbh, we cut down a maple next to our house because of leaves and also cut a pine because of needles and seed cones.
Now have compact citrus trees in their place and a sail for shade
If I cared nothing about interior design, I would still watch this channel for the entertainment alone. Excellent work Nick Lewis!!! Excellent!
“This gnome is the only one you’re allowed.” 😂
Rather have a line of trolls (wish nicks) with decorative grasses shooting out of the top….
Oh man! You are too real! You have the best running dialog of anyone and still give great advise.
Nick over here just keeping it real! 😂
Thank you for this, because Wayfair has been a challenge to sift through these days… sometimes it’s terrifying because buying interior or exterior furniture or “home goods” ONLINE is like going on a blind date… 😅
❤love your sarcasm 😂
I don’t care! I bought an Aldi L shaped plastic rattan garden sofa for £180 and it has lasted for years in Scotland despite spending a few winters uncovered - still doing well and must be about 8 yrs old! And never had a static shock! Recovered the cushions with expensive fabric that I sewed myself! We only get about 3 days of sunshine - so worth it!
C’mon Caroline, we had at least a week last year 😎😁
My have never shocked me, either! And I've had one set - a double lounger from Pier One - for more than 10 years. No issues at all!
@@terrysmith470 Wouldn't static require dry weather?
@@653j521 YES! Absolutely. I was thinking the same! Vancouver is NOT DRY! So... it may be something specific to Nick's pieces, or WHERE he had them? (Obviously it's the metal under the plastic. But I have one and have never had that problem).
Oh God, I've been in Scotland in July ... and had to wear wool!
I cannot tell you the immense pride I felt when you referenced my outdoor sectional. Fun fact, there are chairs that go with it, and Harry and Megan sat in those exact chairs with Oprah during the interview.
When we were first married my husband insisted upon a glass coffee table. Fast forward 30 years and I can count on one hand how many times he's cleaned the damn table. Needless to say, I take his decorating suggestions with a grain of salt.
"Made of sawdust and hopes and dreams". Good Lort! You crack me up!
Sometimes Nick reminds me of Stevie Griffin
"You're a gnome. Why are we having this conversation?" Sounds like the best overheard bar chatter.
“Who hurt you… cause this made me mad.” 😅😅
You say what we all think. Thank you for your service, sir. It’s necessary work you’re doing here.

You made me choke on my bagel at the pervy gnomes. It's like Santa's elves on Rumspringa.
Oh how I loathe gnomes
Brilliantly funny comment ! 😂

Too many to link?
The "You're only allowed one gnome" section had me crying 😂😂😂
I was doing ok until we got to the gnomes... the "assembly line worker in China" monologue - I'm dying!
My daughter bought her first gnome. She lamented not having a gnome for her garden. At first horrified, I thought 'ok, I'll get her one." To it I attached a note, "Your 1st gnome for your 1st home! P.S. Don't ask again." She had a laugh, which is what I hoped for. Love ya, Nick!
Good job!👏
I tried to shop for a vanity cabinet on Wayfair and was so overwhelmed not even halfway through their endless selection that I had to go to bed with green noise so I wouldn't continue to see them on the back of my eyelids!!
I like the rounded end table in the three colors, too. The shabby chic end table looks like it was glued on top of a plant stand. 😅
I recently watched a 'how to' video on faking old, worn, painted wooden slats for some project and left a comment about how the wood reminded me of an old park bench... and the creator mistook my comment for a compliment and gave me a heart! 😂
❤ wow. Insane
"If you love it, put it in your home. But please don't" 🤣
Canadians have a reputation for being really, really nice. Super polite and so careful with their words so they don't hurt anybody's feelings. They've never even heard of sarcasm.
Nick is here to show that reputation is wholly unearned.
And yet, he's ruthless in the most polite and kind way 😆 So I'm not so sure about the stereotype breaking here.
Thank you Nick for another really funny video! I enjoy your design esthetic and your wonderful disdain for utter crap.
I completely agree with you about Sunbrella. We wasted far too much money on cheap fabric umbrellas, and they fade in a heartbeat. We were able to replace just the canopy with Sunbrella and it looks good after several months of sun.
Loved this video. My husband couldn’t figure out why I was laughing so much. Keep your videos coming
I always admire your taste and insight. You amuse and inspire. You are beautiful when you are snarky. 😅
Yay! We agree! I have the acacia wood sofa you showed and I love it! It has another purpose for me. I live in an 8x16 tiny home and the dimensions were perfect to use as a sofa/bed in my house. I swapped out the cushions for a mattress and loose pillow back. It’s solid and beautiful and perfect!
@judyricco6635. Great idea and meets with Nick's approval! Score!
Love the reference to Calgary. Yup. Our weather is damn hard on outdoor furniture. Necessary to store or use heavy duty covers during our endless winters.
The timing of a ‘Wayday’ ad popped up as Nick was talking about cabriolet legs on a yard sale find table was incidentally, yet ironically placed. Too damn funny!
I bought a solid, heavy, white pedestal drink table the size of the wooden one you showed. I came up with a pretty good solution to help avoid it from easily tipping over, otherwise I would have returned it. I took a white ceramic salad plate (with a slight diameter bigger than the bottom of the base of the table) that has a round edge in bottom center of it, placed it upside down, put a piece of UHU extra strong glue pad (easily removable, reusable, and can be purchased at Staples or Amazon), and sat the bottom base of table on top of it. It fit like a glove! The table blends right in with the plate, and by looking at it, it looks like it's just the design of the table. It actually looks great!
There are stand-up comics who can't hold a candle to Nick. Seriously. 😂
The amount of quotable Nick-isms in this video is staggering.
I recently went through dozens of pages of accent chairs on Wayfair. You are so right, Nick. You MUST look at the specs, and hone in on the materials. If your price point is polyester (performance fabric lol) the textures vary widely. Zoom in on the fabric.
OMG when you said, "I gave it to my mom so she can get zapped." You are beyond funny. You ought to try stand up, seriously, Love it💖
“Sawdust and hopes and dreams…” 🤣😂🤣😂 Love you!!!
the "outdoor dining set" is perfect for an indoor minimalist space for one or two people. Yes it is not cheap but it is superb.
I laughed so hard at " there is someone in an assembly line in China..."
I can't believe he trashed my whole Gilligan's Island theme. It was so hard finding those coconut-shell glasses, too. Now I have to totally redecorate my hut.
My neighbors ( in Florida) have their entire front rock lawn of gnomes. Thank goodness they're snowbirds. I sent my sister a picture and what do you think she did ....yes...sent me one as a Christmas gift. Now that darn gnome stares at me from the kitchen window sill🤣🤨🙄
stick it your neighbors yard and see if they notice the new addition
I saw that same patio set when I was shopping for one a year ago. It lulled me into the same false sense of security. I was adding it to my cart when I took a closer look and saw that crackley looking paint job. It genuinely upset me so much. So thank you for validating those feelings.
I just love your humor!! I can’t stop watching your videos, please keep them coming 🤗
Bought a demilune hall table from Wayfair. Had it 3 years and the leg fell off. Bought a Harden solid cherry demilune table second hand. Refinished it with chalk paint to match my decor and that thing isnt ever falling apart. Fast furniture, ugh. Lesson learned.
Bad choices bad results?
I loved the outdoor sectionals part! I got a good laugh at that because I recently had my deck redone and purchased nice furniture, not cheap plastic! Teak is one of my favorite outdoor furniture materials!
"Who hurt you?" LOOOOOL!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I haven't commented in a long while, just have to say you totally nailed this one, Nick! I love how you call BS on all the cheap crap. Gnomes, ugh!🤣 So many products to get angry about! Just be happy you have class and UNcommon sense!
All I can say is I think you’re awesome. I like your subtle, and not so subtle, humor.
I love that your videos have chapters!
Ditto on the plastic rattan causing shocks! Drives me batty... didn't know it was a thing until I purchased some really comfy patio chairs a few years ago for my little courtyard and every time I get up from the things, I get a jolt of electricity that kind of dispels any relaxation obtained during the moments before (lol)
I absolutely love your sense of humour and insights! You could be a comedian! I watch your videos at double the speed because, well, that's how I watch all videos. And, wow, you're so articulate - it doesn't even seem like you're using a prompter - and it's very obvious when others are doing this. I hope your condo sells quickly!
When I was working at Pier One the plastic wicker or what we disaffectionatly plicker it always fell apart it would unravel on the show room floor just sitting there or just barely moved around! I would never buy it or real wicker . Real wicker fades and breaks with the heat cold thaw cycles as well. Lets ditch wicker all together!
Apart from your interior design knowledge and advice, I just love your humour and sarcasm 😂😂
Sometimes I like to do "themey"" in a self-deprecating, self-referential way...like I totally know that is a baby pool and that my dog is not a dolphin, but this is hilarious...ya know?

Small note on the boucle - when this trend first started I knew it would be short lived and overdone. Best way to manage things like this is: timeless upholstered pieces with boucle throw pillows. Get the look without the high cost and change it out easy & quick when the fad is over.
I’m watching for the commentary. We don’t even have Wayfair here in Australia.

"I gave it to my mom so now she can get zapped"-Nick Lewis 2024, quote of the year.....I literally couldn't stop laughing 😂
LOL - I totally have the generic plastic rattan outdoor seating with the big overstuffed cushions! 🤣 In my defense though, I live in Florida and EVERYTHING you put outside will degrade and look like garbage in a year or two if it's made of any kind of wood. Even if you cover it unfortunately. Wood just doesn't like the extreme heat/humidity. Even with composite materials, you still have to cover them (especially with the cushions). We have covers for everything outside (the bar, the bar stools, the outdoor patio furniture, the fire table, etc.). Even our deck is made from composite materials (because wood decks in Florida become rotting, splintered, degraded wood in no time flat unless you put water seal on them multiple times a year). Now I can walk outside barefoot on my deck and that's a lovely experience.
I LOVE how fast you talk. (I'm in the US. When I came back from France, I was astonished at how slowly everyone spoke. I would get bored listening to people... until I decided to just translate everything they said into French! It's one way of dealing with it... But I prefer You).
“…If it’s made out of sawdust and hopes and dreams…”!! 😂 oh please…that was a good one!
