    This album is a reaction to the backlash of his first slim shady album.
    He felt because he’s white, is signed with dr.Dre, and had some catchy sounding songs, he got lumped in with pop groups at the time that were on MTV all the time like a N sync, Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin etc, so he decided to make an album with even worse lyrics to piss off he critics even more, and to further separate himself from the pop acts on MTV.

    • @sjn6704
      @sjn6704 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Kind of true. Some of the lyrics on I'm Back, Marshall Mathers and in particular The Way I Am were a response to that, but overall most of the album was already written by mid-late 99 and was originally titled Amsterdam - it was mostly a response to the controversy that his violent/drug content caused, not being a pop act

    Man, your dad's a cool cat. It's awesome that he recognizes the shock value for what it is without letting it affect his sensibilities. Slim Shady always came with exaggerated levels of violence and sheer absurdity back then. Still astonishes me that people took those kind of cartoonish lyrics seriously.

    If you guys do more Eminem albums you might want to give your dad a quick run down on Eminem and a little about his personal life/career because that is one of the big reasons he is so popular. People feel like they know him personally because of all the details about his life that he puts into his music, and it kind of makes the music sit differently with you when you form that connection and understand where he is coming from.

Then one day it dawned on me that it was one of those songs I would have shared with her right away. Then she would have gone down the rabbit hole listening to the group looking for more…..it was a really hard week when that hit me. But it’s also what is helping me work though the loses of the recent years.

      Yeah it's definitely one of those songs u skip on a first listen but it's also one of those songs that grows on u after u let the whole album play back to back from front to back just like the songs "Who Knew" & "I'm Back" & "Amityville" & "Remember Me" cuz the album is so good so u let the lesser known songs & songs with the beats that start off a little slower at the beginning just play all the way through & thats when u finally realize u are really stupid for misjudging those type of tracks or beats & realize it's actually a hidden classic or masterpiece of a gem I found but still it's hiding in plain sight at the same time 💯 It's like fine aged wine when u really think about it cuz it has to grow on u💯 I think alot of the best songs on all albums are the ones that need a couple listens before they hit u correctly in the right way💯 Honestly this whole album ain't really got a single bad song even all the lesser favorites eventually became the favorites after u listen to all the most well known hits & catchest ones first 💯 It's fucking crazy how good the tracklist really is on this album & I might like some albums better but the tracklist on this one is perfect & everything goes together perfectly, it might be the single best tracklist on a album of all time💯 even if he got songs that u like better in his other albums, this one is masterfully back to back perfectly put together in every way even the lesser songs are all classics no doubt 💯

    The Steve Berman skit is exactly what it sounds like. The story is that after submitting this album for approval, he was told it was good but didn't have anything to market as a #1 hit. In anger and frustration Eminem produced and recorded "the way I am" which was the 1st beat that he himself produced. That gives the line "let's face it, I'm not gonna be able to top what "my name it," so much more meaning.
    Immediately after, he's supposed to have recorded "the real slim shady," then handed the album back to execs and told them "there's your hit."
    That's why those 3 tracks are in that order.
