This Album sold 1.76 million copies the first week it dropped and 34.8 million total copies, and YES it went Diamond. Eminem has won over 350 Awards including 15 Grammys and 1 Oscar along with many others, he's in the Genius Book of World Records over 10 times and even has his own word in the dictionary now "Stan". He is the (Artist of the Decade) with over 300 million album/single sold.
You should do the next Album Reaction LIVE (HIGHEST VIEWS COME FROM ANYTHING TO DO WITH EMINEM! ) and that way you can get all of your question answered on the spot by Stan's....it would definitely be interesting.
Especially a reaction by someone who listens mainly to certain genres. Like someone who you would think would only listen to Heavy Mental or Country and then turn around to do a reaction to Eminem & then starts to appreciate what all Em does and can do.
Marshall Mathers is his personal life in his music, normally very dark. Eminem is his rap career, normally very serious. Slim Shady is his jokey alter ego, usually funny but dark. Marshall Mathers is easily my fave as it dives into his personal life and his darkest music is some his best.
I'm a former purist metalhead, that now enjoys everything from the raunchiest metal, to hip hop, to classical, to boogie woogie, with everything in between. Skill is skill and good music is good music.
Especially a reaction by someone who listens mainly to certain genres. Like someone who you would think would only listen to Heavy Mental or Country and then turn around to do a reaction to Eminem & then starts to appreciate what all Em does and can do.
I was a metal purist aswell back in the day, but Eminem always had a special place in my heart. By then I've really expanded my mind for more music, of all styles.
@@thomassmith4826 Interesting how metalheads gravitate hiphop in the end aswell. Maybe the lyrical themes are similar and the anger and sadness expressed through their music.
Right when he said "My mom was fucked up" I knew he was gonna enjoy this album. Theres a reason why this album is 10x multi-platinum , diamond certified.
When I was younger and ignoant I was that asshole that would not give rap a chance...and then someone at work put this album on and my musical world was shattered. I am so glad you are getting to hear this masterpiece of music.
I grew up on Hip Hop but I listen to everything from country to salsa. I used to try and convince stubborn rockers that they should give it a chance because it is its own style of poetry. That a beatbox would make Marie sound than any instrument can make.
Imma go ahead and list you 4 classic albums down below. Which ever one you choose you will not be dissapointed. Dr. Dre - 2001 Eminem - The Eminem Show Nas - Illmatic 50 Cent - Get Rich Or Die Tryin' I watched the whole thing and really enjoyed the reaction! Keep up the great work!
I think the reason You don't like the Marshall Mathers song is because it has a lot of hip hop references and personal beefs references you didn't know about ... like help from d12 to beat up 2 females etc 2 females with make up he's talking about is insane clown posse
When this cd came out it was legitimately a full blown experience...buying the cd...going home and listening to it from beginning to end...lots of nostalgia and it's a classic album.
@@allensmith.aaffect.1626 Same, was the second album I ever bought after hybrid theory, linkin park. I was definitely way too young to listen to this album but my parents had no idea what I was listening to at the time.
This is his best album by far... The only one that is close is Slim Shady LP I'm a huge Em fan but a few of his albums are kinda lame and goofy. (Encore, recovery, relapse)
As a fan of a variety of music genres from different eras, I confidently believe Marshall Mathers LP is one of the greatest albums ever released. The word "timeless" is thrown around too much but it actually applies here. I sometimes forget how spectacular this is, until I hear it again. Respect
I respect the hell out of this reaction video. This is what society needs. We need to take that moment and experience what we normally wouldn't. it helps to build understanding, respectful dialogue and also assists with personal development. Great content and all of your thoughts were appreciated.
@@Oogidahboogidah I never knew I would get this big I never knew I affect this I never knew I would get him to slit his wrist I never knew I would get him hit this bitch. Banger
I watched this whole video and it was very impressive to see someone who doesn't listen to hiphop really take the time to listen. I think you would really enjoy the NAS illmatic album. This was awesome to watch and thanks for talking that time to do this.
1:19:00 not sure if anyone has pointed this out but its cool you recognised Xzibits voice from like a 30 second cameo during Em's 8 Mile Movie 😂 Love the channel I'm a new subscriber!
Came looking for this comment. I was like “dude you’re spot fucking on.” He thought we’d make fun of him 😂 Xzibits got one of them voices you can’t forget. Very underrated rapper
As a metal head myself, I love seeing other metal fans appreciate the genius that is Eminem. His lyricism is unmatched and his sense of humor is on point, as you noticed. Also, there is a lot of crossover fans of Korn (and metal in general) and Eminem.
Korn, Em, Blink, Greenday, No Doubt, Dre, Snoop, and others in this late 90s early 2000s. I love it all. This era of music was middle school through high school. Eminem though is probably the best artist out of the era. I hope people appreciate his music in 50+ years like people with the beatles, rush, U2, etc
@marc rodney Well... my first order from BMG (waaaaaaay back in the day) consisted of Korn-Korn, Tool-Undertow, STP-Core, Dr. Dre-The Chronic, Snoop-Doggystyle, and Warren G-Regulate.. G Funk Era. I'm white and grew up in Bismarck, ND sooooo I guess you're wrong. 😏 Maybe you shouldn't paint a group with such a wide brush. Makes YOU look like those you are casting judgement on.
Man this is the peak of Eminem right here. MMLP was his best album along with Eminem Show. Young, hungry, aggressive Slim Shady slaying any rappers on that era.
He also wrote it in like 1 or 2 days, following the meeting parodied on the track before it. He was told by the label none of the songs were single worthy for radio and he had to come up with a new song or no album. He went home, locked himself in the lab and wrote the way I am. It's an amazing song.
You gotta listen to Eminem's 1. The Slim Shady EP 2. The Eminem Show In fact every single Eminem album is amazing. Most are genius, absolute genius. Period.
i thought recovery was. i thought 'not afraid' was his best lead single ever. but to be honest, even through his weak albums, his multisyllabics were always crazy as hell he was a prolific writer.
*Encore* was by far his worst album, but it’s still an above-average rap album. It’s like Metallica’s *St. Anger* : it’s a good album until you realize which act released it, at which point you notice the steep decline in quality. Fortunately for both examples, they’ve both had better albums since.
Hey mate, I got no problem with you talking like that when you pause and giving us stories and what not, I actually reckon it’s interesting, just getting a different perspective
@marc rodney basically even if it's not your opinion, not putting eminem on a top 10 is disrespectful, as not putting pac. But you're free to do so, but not correct.
I remember listening to this album when it came out and being blown away, ever since then, I've been a die hard Eminem fan despite being a metalhead. I haven't listened to this album in a few years but listening along to it with you while you react is honestly a trip down memory lane. Awesome video.
The last song is D12, which is Eminems band, they are his closest friends. It is rather important to understand D12, if you want to understand Slim Shady. D12 was at first basically just a pact between them that the first person who gets famous, makes all the others famous too, it was Proofs (Eminems best friend since high school, he died 2006 after being shot in the head) idea to found the group, he also had the idea that all of the 6 members should have 2 personalities, therefore D12. He had also the idea that they should say things that would be over the limit and just saying whatever they want, but also funny things, like saying to fuck his own mom and having a new brother and son at the same time, it was already Bizarres (the other guy on the song Amityville) style so he inspired the others in the group and fundamentally is responsible for this famous style of Slim Shady, it is also probably why you thought that Bizarre is the counterpart to Eminem, which is actually very true, but Bizarre is still the most crazy one in the group, to name all members and the second personality: Eminem - Slim Shady Proof - Derty Harry Bizarre - Red Head Kon Artist - Mr Porter Kuniva - Rondell Beene Swift - Swifty McVay I recommend the song "My Band" from them, especially the music video, which is very funny. His first album "Infinite" has absolutely no Slim Shady influence and therefore are the song themes completely different, because it was before they came up with this idea, so even though the album was incredible good, people were not buying it because it was not unique and too similiar to other rappers at that time, it only sold like 1000 copies, even though the album is incredible, especially in terms of rhymes, but that´s basically it, besides that it was indeed not unique, but the title song "Infinite" is in my personally opinion one of the best songs he ever did. I think to understand Eminems music you have to understand his story, which is in rap music often the case, because of the heavy focus on the lyrics. If you really want to know more about Eminem, I recommend his book "The Way I Am", which is like his songs very well written, I think most of things I wrote are also written in the book.
the chic on track 13 : Drug Ballad is Dina Rae. she got vocals on "Superman" off the Eminem Show too. and she's on another album too, maybe D12's album
The song "Marshall Mathers" is one of those songs that you have to know previous knowledge about his career and all the drama surrounding his career in order to appreciate the lyrics, that's it man. 🤘🤘
Yeah I address this in my text dump. There's a lot of references to his "beef" with Insane Clown Posse who gave him a very dumb "diss" name which he destroys in one line. But, not to speak for Metal Biker Dude, but I think it wasn't the lyrics (as he compliments them) but rather the lack of a bass line & the use of a guitar (which he reaches for after).
I bought this album when it came out, 1 of the greatest albums of all time, some of those I haven't heard in a while but my top 5 1) The Way I Am (every em fan knows word for word) 2) Kill You 3) Criminal 4) Bitch Please II 5) Under the Influence
Just to give you some background info: Kim is his ex-wife & baby mother. Hailie Jade, Alaina (Lainey)& whitney are his daughters. Debbie is his mother. Slim Shady, Eminem, Marshall Mathers is himself and his alter ego's. His dad left him when he was little. Paul Rosenberg is his manager. Proof/Deshaun Holton (Doody) is his best friend who died in 2006. D12 is his group of friends from Detroit who rap together. You know Dr. Dre and that's all I got for you so far.
kinda crazy seeing a random guy react to an album that raised me. im gettin chills again like its the first time. right before church one morning, my bro copped it on napster ten days before release, and i just knew i was like entering an era.
beatsNstrings yo, same here man. heard this album along w other’s from Eminem thousand’s, and thousand’s a time’s, and watched this reaction vid not expectin much other than to see some hilariously unexpected reaction’s, but w every song I got the chill’s, and it was like I was hearin every song for the first time again... cept I knew every word to every song. I think seein this man react in such an open minded, and geniune way to everything from instrument’s, and quality of production all the way down to lyric’s, and delivery made this video so nostalgic, and impactful for me. also I usually don’t like the extra commentary that people have in their reaction video’s, but this guy isn’t tryna be someone he’s not in order to gain like’s, and/or subscriber’s, so not only did I not mind his commentary, I actually thought it was really good, and informative. liked how he was able to explain a bit about who he was, and his background by bein able to geniunely relate to certain thing’s in some of the song’s, and segway from those certain part’s into his commentary so smoothly by only talkin about thing’s that related to those part’s... because everything w this man seemed so natural, and never forced I subscribed to his channel. awesome guy w a genuinely awesome reaction video... 💯💯💯.
favourite Em album of all time here and Remember Me and Amityville have been on rotation for the past 20 years. "The fuck is wrong with this guy" is the exact thing everyone says when they hear Bizarre for the 1st time 🤣
Harold Pierce rakim is a goat, but EM took it way to a next level, he rhymes almost every word while still telling you a story, it's crazy. L and Pun didn't have much time, they woulda been as good as EM...well not good as him...but hella good
sZ Argyle! I disagree I think pun would've been better. Even with his short time he proved his greatness. L not so much he could spit but it wasn't a constant thing has some weak songs and a short career hurts him in that regard
I wouldn't call him the greatest lyricist, but he is by far the greatest wordsmith by a mile. The way he combines words, creates flows, emphasizing syllables, bending words to fit in a scheme, while telling a funny, coherent line is downright genius.
your reaction on Stan was priceless dude, I forgot how shocking this story was for me 22 years ago when I first heard this record. love your reaction on this one it brings back memories. about that "Paul" skit, you have it in all of eminem albums up until 2010 Recovery in which he droped the skit concept. Paul Rosenberg is his manager and lawyer. those skits are basically Pauls reaction to his albums
Exactly. I've thought that from the beginning. I'm also a father of a daughter. My closest friends don't even know her real name. She's half Japanese. Wise people move in silence..
Exactly, just gave her the opportunity to live a normal life and be treated like anyone else, instead of having to grow up being famous for being Em's daughter and deal with all the stress, reactions etc. (even though that did still happen to a small degree).
I clicked on this video with the intent of skipping around to some of the good songs to hear your opinions. Then I got sucked in cause I forgot how amazing this entire album is. Glad you enjoyed it too, brother.
All the songs on this album are good in their own merits. Especially if you know what was happening at the time (pretty sure that’s why he didn’t care much for Marshall Mathers, you’d have to know what was going on to get it better)
3 years late to the party but I gotta say it: watching you discover this album brought me back to when I was going into the 9th grade and heard it for the first time myself. We can never get the initial reaction back so it was great to witness this. Thank you for that. Also, those moments when eminem's word play and humor make you want to pause the song and let it sink in.. he has never lost that, either. I think (at least to me) that is part of his longevity. Listening to any of his releases take me back to being a kid and being transfixed by his wordplay, delivery and humor
Stumbled across this 3 years late. I always enjoy seeing someone unaware of the music that shaped my early years. I didn't cut my wrists, I learned not to be a b*tch 😂😂😂 You have an open and inquisitive mind on the subject, many people make quick judgements and stick to their opinions like their voting choices lol awesome video
Btw, you're right on about the guy in "Bitch Please II" being the same guy on 8 Mile in the lunch line...His stage name is Xzibit....I'm impressed...He also did that old show on MTV called "Pimp My Ride" lol
You are not wrong sir, this album shifted the music industry and forced everyone to pay attention in one way or another as you have witnessed. The Album is Fire!
@@GrazsPlace see most of Eminem's stuff is atleast serviceable so picking a favorite album for me would be hard but I really like this album and the slim shady LP
If you want to check the whole album ‘Girls’ is on, it’s *Devil’s Night* from D12 (D12 is the group you heard on ‘Under the Influence’ and ‘Amityville’).
TheComicBookJoker also don't forget to mention "Girls" is not on the Devils Night tracklist. It's a hidden track at the end of the album. If he doesn't know that he won't find it without an effort.
what the hell is wrong wit u guys, eminem show is nothing compared to MMLP and Infinite is terrible. Even Em himself hates Infinite. Slim Shady Lp is the only other album with the same caliber as this album
I loved this era of Em. I grew up on this. I remember having some of his songs from his first 2 albums on burnt CDs. I would record stuff off the radio otherwise. Em was just so cool, unique, wild and skilled! Hilarious too!
Jeremy Hodges I can relate, but I’m also lucky that I wasn’t able to check out every classic as they happened. I was able to experience 2Pac’s *All Eyez on Me* and *The Don Killuminatti* for the first time a few months ago, and I was blown away.
You mention how though his last few songs are good on their own, they don't live up to the rest of his other songs. That's the entire problem Em is having with his career atm. He's raised the bar so high, the only person we have to compare to him is his-self
Oyyou I agree for the most part but I feel like people use that statement as an excuse (not saying u in specific ) for some of his shitty music today . Just because u have classics under ur belt doesn't mean u can deadass drop a garbage album or albums (encore/revival) because all u have to say "I just raised the bar so high in my prime so whatever its okay"
Stan is sampled from a song by Dido called Thank You. They punched up the beat.. its a nice job. Elton John played the piano part and sang 'tears gone cold..." during the Grammy's that year. ok...i'll shut up... Dig your reactions bro. One metal head to another..
Sean Savage I want to thank both of you guys for helping put an end to the ignorance among music fan's. It's a beautiful thing when people from opposite genre preferences can sit, listen, react, and most importantly appreciate one another's preferred music genres. Instead of hating and bashing it, forming an opinion of the whole genre based on a couple of songs or one single artist, thus giving birth to music stereotypes. Thanks to people such as yourselves we can put those totally inaccurate stereotypes to bed and start a whole new trend of open mindedness. Finally a glimmer of light in what otherwise appears to be a cold, dark future.
KingOfTheJungle 2 there is only one definition to a stan lol its a fan that dickrides an artist and believes he can do no wrong. It started as eminem fans but over time you can be a stan to different artists
Edwin Reyes the reason I ask is because I've been labeled a "Stan" like hundreds of times since it became a phrase. And I don't fit the description at all.
You're a great reactor! One of the best, your heart is in it, and you understand music. just pure gems and gold. for me, it felt like you was going live. BIG RESPECT!!!
The song "Stan" is underrated as one of the best ever written. One of the best stories ever told in song. As a child of the 80's with parents of the 60's I've heard "the best" and it's right up there. Just sayin'.
Just watched this entire video. I loved your take on the album! Reminds me of my first time listening to it! You asked for Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg recommendations which are similar to this album. I would strongly recommend Dr. Dre's "2001" and Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle." Those are albums with somewhat similar vibes to this album. And the Dr. Dre production on both of those albums is nothing short of phenomenal. Much respect for what you are doing, and I'm looking forward to continue taking this journey with you!
Shamyl Siddiqi 2 Pac - All Eyez On Me is another good shout, amazing Dre production with one of the best ever. Epic double album though, good luck with the editing, lol.
I just spent two hours watching a react vid and I don’t hate myself for doing it. Great balance of play and pause...and when you did pause, I was interested every time. Already liked and subscribed, but I gotta say that you have a talent for this. Most react vids are garbage, but you killed it IMO. As to suggestions, I like Snoop, but never listened to any of his albums. Dre on the other hand...Dr. Dre - The Chonic, has always been one of my favorite albums. The kind of album that you listen front to back and enjoy it all. Also very curious to see what you think of Macklemore’s album “The Heist”, because that’s another that I enjoyed top to bottom.
yeah macklemores heist one was good with its different aspects i found as well, ill listen to chronic all the way through as well thanks for the recc. :)
ken kennif was just a character he played on his albums and when he was acting like someone was suckin on Ken he was acting like it was Insane clown posse they didn't like each other
What I’d give to hear The Marshall Mathers LP again for the first time. You’re so lucky to have discovered it. One of the greatest hip hop albums ever made. A masterpiece. Found it funny that some of the tracks you liked the least are some of the greatest (Criminal, Marshall Mathers etc.)- they’re lyrical genius, true classics, truly 🔥. But you talked over all the bars. 😂🤣Also, without knowing the context, I would imagine they don’t hit the same way. Study up, then maybe give them another listen? It may illuminate the context and give you a greater understanding and perhaps a greater appreciation for what he’s spitting. I loved it when you paused and shared stories though. Just please listen intently when the track is playing?😉 But your assessment of The Way I Am? YOU WERE DEAD CENTER ACCURATE ON THAT ONE. Happens to be My favorite Eminem track of all time (although my favorite album from him is Relapse- it’s a horrorcore masterpiece). Still as relevant, vicious and venomous as the day it dropped 22 years ago. And it always makes me happy when someone new discovers it for the first time. Thank you for doing the whole album. New sub. 👍🏼
Glad to see such a positive reception to this album. That's the thing about Eminem - he transcends the genre and pulls in people from all walks of life. He's easy to relate to for anyone who's had a rough spot in life. He speaks to issues that everyone else seemed to shy away from, and he took the negative press and turned it into lyrical gold. This might be his best album of all time, when he was lyrical, hard-hitting, solid beats all around, and his trademark comedy thrown in on a couple tracks. Eminem is one of those superstars who comes along once a generation. Now he has matured, but he has kept his lyrical skills and while not everyone likes his new content, he's using his platform to speak on issues that matter to him. You can't help but respect the fact that he was a high school dropout who took his pain and made a better life for himself and his kids from it.
Thing that makes these records so amazing is dre is top tier producer, he has more dimensions to his art than most. Em has the same kind of depth to his lyrics and when you put them together they are able to create patterns and harmonies on levels that people don't even understand for the most part. It's never been done belle before, and i don't know if it ever will be done again. Perfect storm.
Paul is Paul Rosenberg, Eminem's longtime manager and attorney. Just recently he became CEO of Def Jam Records. Steve Berman is an executive for Interscope Records, which is the label that owns Aftermath (which is Dre's label). Steve is a cool guy. He's featured in that new 4-part HBO Documentary Series "The Defiant Ones" that timelines the careers and partnership of Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre (including their signing of Eminem). Also worth noting: around 53:25 he starts his verse, "I take 7 kids from Columbine, stand em all in line. Add an AK47, a revolver and 9" but even his explicit version of the album censored half of the line (thanks FCC)! Not many people have had their explicit versions of music censored, but Eminem is one of them. The other guy on "Bitch Please II" was Xzibit, and yes, he was the actor for the lunch truck rapper from 8 Mile! Good catch! Also, Ken Kaniff isn't a real person. Kenneth Kaniff from Connecticut is a reoccuring character Eminem has used in skits for many albums. Basically just some gay, weird, overly sexual creep. As far as a Dre album, he's got 3 solo albums. The Chronic is his debut solo, featuring a lot of Snoop Dogg. Total masterpiece. Really, any of his 3 albums would be a good pick. He's such a perfectionist that he only releases albums that are perfect in his eyes - so they're all equally impressive. But if you do The Chronic, you can basically count that as a Snoop album as well because he's on almost every song. But yes, Dre is tough to get on TH-cam. But, if you want a Snoop album anyways, Doggystyle is by far his best. I stumbled across this video but I'm really digging your content. Keep it up man. I'll be here to answer any questions you ask in any videos! Biggest hip-hop head ever right here
That, "little Eric jumps over the terrace," line is a jab at Eric Clapton, who's son died after falling off of a ledge. The nanny was watching him. Damn.
@@NarcFreeFormula yes, it was. "Don't blame me when little Eric jumps off of the terrace, you shoulda been watching him, apparently you ain't parents." Who could he have been talking about?
Kim is just one of those songs that has so much raw emotion that it’s hard for me to even listen to the song. You should do the Eminem show though, it was one of those albums that originally wasn’t liked by critics and was later deemed one of his masterpieces
I never thought I would spend 1.45 listening to one of the biggest albums from my teens with a guy I’ve never seen before but I’ve really enjoyed seeing it through fresh eyes. If you haven’t already please react to D12s album Devils Night. D12 ( the dirty dozen ) were Eminems rap group featuring 5 other Detroit rappers including Bizarre that featured on Amityville. It’s a brilliant album filled with lots of F’d up stuff.
He raps under 3 persona's Slim Shady -a character he created as his alter ego that does and says the most offensive things you can think of Eminem - these are his songs were he is the biggest, baddest rapper or talks about rap game Marshall - these are his more personal songs. Most of these are in his later albums.
Rabbit may only be in 8 mile soundtrack, but you are very naive to not think this part of his life influenced him at all! It's what got him his start 😡
Rapping under several persona's is old news in hip hop. RedMan is one of Eminem's biggest inspirations- one of them. Anyway... RedMan used several persona's bck in the eighties. Alot of rappers do it.
OutKast only has the highest selling because it's a double album and they count as two per purchase. And even then, I'm not even sure sold more than MMLP.
Most of how well the melodies go together is credit of Dr.Dre The female singer at Stan, is Dido I'm From Argentina, so obviously my native language is Spanish. I started listening to Eminem like 18 years ago, i keep coming back to his albums every so often, and each time i can appreciate new things, small things hard to catch in the lyrics. It's art, the things he does with words.
Eminem is a genius and the best rapper of all time. Ironic he's a white guy but even every black rapper will say no one comes close to him... unless they are a "Hater." This was his early shit and he's matured sooo much and gotten 10x better as he's gone on. You need to just listen to everything you can by Eminem. He's is the best lyrically to do double and triple entendres. It's INSANE how his mind works. Oh.. fyi.. Eminem grew up in the hood of Detroit across 8 mile road... with 90% blacks. He used to go down to this place called "The shelter" and battle rap. Eminem = M&M (his initials for Marshall Mathers) Slim Shady is is "alter ego" according to him. "Will the real Slim Shady please stand up." Kim is his ex wife.. mother of his daughter Hailey. Debbie is his mother who he couldn't stand growing up. She had Munchausen syndrome.. and His father was a POS who walked out and was never there. Just a few things about Em, my favorite artist of all time. I say "Artist" cause as an individual he's my favorite artist. However I'm a rocker chic at heart.. grew up with my 1st Motley Crüe and Iron Maiden posters on my walls at 13... saw my 1st concert at 20.. Metallica and Guns n Roses front row center 1992 in Arrowhead Stadium. Then Pantera, Korn, White Zombie, Megadeath, Stone Temple Pilots..all live over the years and now at 50 I'm still listening, now playing Volbeat, 5 finger DP, In this Moment, Killswitch engage.. but I LOVE me some Eminem! 😜
It is great that you are picking up on eminem's rhyming. 90% of rappers after about the mid-90s use multi-syllable/slant rhyming. Even today there are a lot of rap fans (but not rappers) who don't know how to write multis or understand what they are. But every one hears them. Eminem was ahead of his time with his multi syllable rhymes and rhyme schemes/internal multis. I suggest looking into it, it will add a huge new dimension of appreciation from a writing stand point. Some stuff is waaay more complex than meets the eye. It's why if you are unlearned, reading something may appear to not rhyme but sound like it does when delivered.
Sorry for all the comments. But what you said during the way I am. Yessir. Some people relate to or are inspired by different people and different cultures; and colour doesn't have to stunt that either. Sounds like you are making some internal and external discoveries, but I'm not surprised. Seems you have a good head on your shoulders sir.
Luke Trottier his ryhme schemes are crazy when you see them highlighted on paper. I always wondered why his lyrics were so pleasing to the ear. The best is on renegade with jay-z and he keeps the same 5 syllable ryhme scheme going through out the song
One of the most ridiculous is his verse on Detroit vs Everybody, he goes back and forth with the "Adrian Peterson" and "potato peeler" mutlis. It's insane.
“I’m alive because of him”…love that about your Dad♥️ I’ve adored EMINEM since his inception. I am a 53 year old white lady from Stone Mountian, Georgia. I been knowin’ bout EM’s genius for a long time…glad you finally made it to the party(3 years ago). When he said “little Eric falling off the terrace…parents”, reminded me of Eric Clapton’s son, he fell out of a window…the name coincidence gives me shivers. You only have to hear Slim Shady once and you’ll remember it. In addition to his daughter Hailiey(with Kim), he also adopted and raised two children out of bad situations. I’m currently chair dancing. Just relinquish your body to the sound, it will know what to do. My Mom told me, when I cuss, she doesn’t hear anything I say after. She said it’s lazy and makes me sound uneducated. My Dad taught me to cuss by yelling at Atlanta traffic, political talking heads, and football. I got it honest and stopped it honest. I do not blaspheme God. If only I had a dollar for all the F’bombs you and EMINEM dropped in this video😁 In my humble opinion, EM talks way to much about s#€kn’ D and other crotch related bars. LOVE ‘Freak on a Leash’ it’s been on my playlists since I had CD’s. Brian Welch wised up and got saved. Please listen to ‘Not Afraid’ from EMINEM 2010. And the highly entertaining Rap Devil (video) by Machine Gun Kelley dissing EMINEM and the retaliatory dis song Kill Shot by EMINEM 2018. Every year, I listen to the epic 8 Mile rap battles on TH-cam. January 2021-Snoop’s work wife is literally Martha Stewart. EMINEM is a top ten favorite but… The Beastie Boys are unmatched in this category, with albums Check Your Head and Paul’s Boutique. They are the best. Period. Forgive my lengthy comment, I was typing as you spoke. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. I appreciate your hard work and editing. My first time here. Subscribed.
Eminem can relate to a 9 year old immigrant from Puerto Rico in Miami, to a 53 year old white lady like yourself in Atlanta, to a 25 year old black kid in Chicago, to a white teenager on a trailer park in Seattle, and that's why his music will stand the test of time. (or a 10 year old middle class English guy like I was in 2000) P.S. Freak on a Leash is a tune
I’m 32 my names Marshall and my mom is manic, needless to say huge eminem fan with that being said anyone can relate to his music if given the chance but I definitely understand people who are turned off him haha
This is by far one of the most iconic albums in music history let alone hip hop...sounds crazy to say but its true nonetheless...Em made history with this album
This CD came out when I was 16 and it's still one of my favorites. I love your reaction to Remember Me, that's my favorite track for sure. Thanks for taking us through the whole thing.
Wrote a music history paper on this album. Arguably one of the most important albums in the history of hip hop and rap music. Without this album, rap music does not make it into the mainstream the way that it has in the last 20 years. Respect to Biggie, Pac,, Jay-Z, Cube, Nas, Busta Rhymes, the list goes on... but this album was a crossover that no one could have anticipated. Meanwhile, Dre. still reigns king.
You're not wrong. Eminem dragged casual and white fans over to rap and hip hop. A whole generation of kids who otherwise wouldn't have listened to rap were suddenly the target market from 2000 onwards. It was a huge feat for a rap album to go more than 1 x Platinum in the 90s - All Eyez on Me went multi-platinum posthumously, The Chronic sold a few million, Biggie went 2 x Platinum, and they were anomalies for Hip Hop. Suddenly this white guy comes in and sells Nsync numbers eventually going Diamond (twice) with legit no-holds rap lifted from black rappers, and the other white and casual fans get into it. It really did open the door for rap to go mainstream when previously it had been second tier - 50 Cent, Kanye, Lil Wayne all go multi platinum in the 00s and its standard for hip hop albums to go at least Platinum, and its been THE main genre for the last 15 years. Its a shame that society needed a white guy to make this amazing genre seem accessible to the mainstream but oh well.
@@sjn6704 your paper was really fascinating I bet. Unfortunately that trend of Black music entering the mainstream through white artists is nothing new. Look at how spirituals, jazz, blues, rock, and eventually hip hop all began with Black musicians and gained widespread popularity mainly through white artists. This is not to discount the greatness of those Black artists because to this day they remain some of the biggest influences on American culture.
I got recommend this video and I was suprised to see that it was uploaded so recently. I'm a huge Eminem fan so it's cool to see that you enjoy the music because it truly is amazing. But I like your personality, you seem like a really cool guy. I don't usually like reaction channels but your videos are actually enjoyable :)

MrDenaun Porter Are you really Kon Artis??! If so, big fan, both as a lyricist and producer. I wish this guy would give Devil's Night a listen. ✌

The song 'Stan' blew up so hard that they added a new word in the Dictionary "Stan" which means An obsessive Fan. That's dope
Oddly enough I always thought it was overshadowed by his other songs, but in more recent times Stan finally got all the attention it deserved

Truth
I was a metal purist aswell back in the day, but Eminem always had a special place in my heart. By then I've really expanded my mind for more music, of all styles.
Yep
@@thomassmith4826 Interesting how metalheads gravitate hiphop in the end aswell. Maybe the lyrical themes are similar and the anger and sadness expressed through their music.
Right when he said "My mom was fucked up" I knew he was gonna enjoy this album. Theres a reason why this album is 10x multi-platinum , diamond certified.
Lot of fucked up moms fr
When I was younger and ignoant I was that asshole that would not give rap a chance...and then someone at work put this album on and my musical world was shattered. I am so glad you are getting to hear this masterpiece of music.

There's good shit everywhere. It's rare to realize that before 30.
Nice. If your Just Now Getting into Eminem you got a long way to go. im kinda Jealous
I grew up on Hip Hop but I listen to everything from country to salsa. I used to try and convince stubborn rockers that they should give it a chance because it is its own style of poetry. That a beatbox would make Marie sound than any instrument can make.
Okay, calm down Eddie
Imma go ahead and list you 4 classic albums down below. Which ever one you choose you will not be dissapointed.
Dr. Dre - 2001
Eminem - The Eminem Show
Nas - Illmatic
50 Cent - Get Rich Or Die Tryin'
I watched the whole thing and really enjoyed the reaction! Keep up the great work!
The chronic is better than 2001
Good suggestions
Æ AeoN Those albums are the absolute best, what a list
Marcus Nah man 2001 is better
Very good list. I’d like to add DMX - It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot as well.
I think the reason You don't like the Marshall Mathers song is because it has a lot of hip hop references and personal beefs references you didn't know about ... like help from d12 to beat up 2 females etc 2 females with make up he's talking about is insane clown posse
Golovkin Ko Yes, he's talking about underground rappers from Detroit, all of that. I understand why he didn't get it but it's a classic.
I think it also has to do with the fact it has a more R&B sound as opposed to funk.
Cole Hopfenberg because em headlined them without their permission nor even contacted them.
Cole Hopfenberg don't forget that sloppy toppy jay and shaggy give at the end. SLURP
Golovkin Ko and musically the song is like pop rock of that era.
When this cd came out it was legitimately a full blown experience...buying the cd...going home and listening to it from beginning to end...lots of nostalgia and it's a classic album.
Fr, same with the eminem show. It was an Era.
@@allensmith.aaffect.1626 Same, was the second album I ever bought after hybrid theory, linkin park. I was definitely way too young to listen to this album but my parents had no idea what I was listening to at the time.
You should do his next album The Eminem show
Ivan Acevedo Especially since it is a bit rock influenced he might quite enjoy it!
Need it
i think he would like Relapse aswell :)
This is his best album by far... The only one that is close is Slim Shady LP
I'm a huge Em fan but a few of his albums are kinda lame and goofy. (Encore, recovery, relapse)
I agree with respawnz. Slim shady lp. Older is better with Eminem. He gets too political the farther you go into his career.
I vote listening to the album Kendrick Lamar - good kid m.A.A.d city
MrDivined What about To Pimp A Butterfly?
Garbage
YES! good kid m.A.A.d city is an amazing album
GKMC first and foremost then TPAB then Sect80 and then don’t even listen to DAMN

The way I am was actually produced by Eminem.
mixed by Dre
As a fan of a variety of music genres from different eras, I confidently believe Marshall Mathers LP is one of the greatest albums ever released. The word "timeless" is thrown around too much but it actually applies here. I sometimes forget how spectacular this is, until I hear it again. Respect
I respect the hell out of this reaction video. This is what society needs. We need to take that moment and experience what we normally wouldn't. it helps to build understanding, respectful dialogue and also assists with personal development. Great content and all of your thoughts were appreciated.

Junzstyle Madapaka Slim Shady Lp
Out there absolutely slayin the whole game in that era. Nobody wanted smoke with the crazy white boy.
I love Ems newest albums too tho. Music to be murdered by is incredible
“The way I am” was actually one of the first songs Eminem produced himself
He also wrote it in like 1 or 2 days, following the meeting parodied on the track before it. He was told by the label none of the songs were single worthy for radio and he had to come up with a new song or no album. He went home, locked himself in the lab and wrote the way I am.

I don’t like his newer albums, I stop listening after that curtain call the hits.
*Encore* was by far his worst album, but it’s still an above-average rap album. It’s like Metallica’s *St. Anger* : it’s a good album until you realize which act released it, at which point you notice the steep decline in quality. Fortunately for both examples, they’ve both had better albums since.

He had also the idea that they should say things that would be over the limit and just saying whatever they want, but also funny things, like saying to fuck his own mom and having a new brother and son at the same time, it was already Bizarres (the other guy on the song Amityville) style so he inspired the others in the group and fundamentally is responsible for this famous style of Slim Shady, it is also probably why you thought that Bizarre is the counterpart to Eminem, which is actually very true, but Bizarre is still the most crazy one in the group, to name all members and the second personality:
Eminem - Slim Shady
Proof - Derty Harry
Bizarre - Red Head
Kon Artist - Mr Porter
Kuniva - Rondell Beene
Swift - Swifty McVay
I recommend the song "My Band" from them, especially the music video, which is very funny.
Slim Shady LP, this album, and the Eminem Show is the holy trinity of Em albums. Maybe even albums period
Agree; but i also dont mind encore; but its defo after those 3
You catching Xzibits voice from the 8 mile scene was amazing. Man vs. Machine was a great album.
yeah that was crazy how he made that connection
Robert Byrd right lol
This guy is very observant and he really listens to the music
Defiantly
And "Restless"..i thought he would recognize his voice from pimp my ride lol
the chic on track 13 : Drug Ballad is Dina Rae. she got vocals on "Superman" off the Eminem Show too. and she's on another album too, maybe D12's album
He's called Eminem because its a play on his name Marshall Mathers - M&M
He once called himself M&M, but he changed it so he wont have problems with the copyright
The song "Marshall Mathers" is one of those songs that you have to know previous knowledge about his career and all the drama surrounding his career in order to appreciate the lyrics, that's it man. 🤘🤘
Him talking through that song is what made me comment lol
@Ryan Cosby I mean, it's not the most obvious metaphor, it's damn stylish, but you can take it literally, especially if you mishear a few words.
One of the best Em beats - by the great Bass Brothers
Yeah I address this in my text dump. There's a lot of references to his "beef" with Insane Clown Posse who gave him a very dumb "diss" name which he destroys in one line. But, not to speak for Metal Biker Dude, but I think it wasn't the lyrics (as he compliments them) but rather the lack of a bass line & the use of a guitar (which he reaches for after).
It's also hard to like a song that you talk over the entire time. Talking about unrelated things. He missed 80% of the subject matter.
This one of the greatest album of all time not just in the rap but every genre. Eminem’s “the eminem show” is also an absolutely amazing album.
I bought this album when it came out, 1 of the greatest albums of all time, some of those I haven't heard in a while but my top 5

In My Opinion. Eminem is the greatest rap lyricist of all time.
DmgOvrTym Yeah how high do you rate Big Pun big l or Rakim?
James Burgess I can understand that. And I would have to agree.
your reaction on Stan was priceless dude, I forgot how shocking this story was for me 22 years ago when I first heard this record. love your reaction on this one it brings back memories.
about that "Paul" skit, you have it in all of eminem albums up until 2010 Recovery in which he droped the skit concept. Paul Rosenberg is his manager and lawyer. those skits are basically Pauls reaction to his albums
Ever wonder why you never hear about Eminem's daughter's. Exactly. That's because Eminem was a good Dad!
Josh Hubbard he literally made a song saying how he regrets talking about his daughter as much as he did and would rather have left her out of it
Just proves his point.
I think Josh means you never hear about her doing dumb shit in the news.

I wish he had the ordinal music videos too that would have added to much to the experience

Personally, I think it's Eminem's best album to date. And I think it will always be the best album of his career. Followed by The Eminem Show.
@@GrazsPlace see most of Eminem's stuff is atleast serviceable so picking a favorite album for me would be hard but I really like this album and the slim shady LP
I literally get goosebumps every single time Em comes in on the 4th verse, "Dear stan, i meant to write you sooner but i just been busy" EVERY TIME!
Easily one of hip hops best album
Personally i think its the greatest hiphop album. I put this over illmatic, blueprint ready to die or any other so called classic.
Ikol Russell Check out Mic Righteous - Dream Land. Its a great album
Oh man. If you don't like Fred Durst, you're in for a treat. Shortly after this album, neither does Eminem.
Check out "Girls" by Eminem.
Great diss track (I still like Limp Bizkit)
Thank you for this reaction. The next album you should do is The Eminem Show
hello Sure Infinite is quite good but it’s not better than the MMLP, Slim Shady LP or The Eminem Show. It’s arguably better than the rest.
what the hell is wrong wit u guys, eminem show is nothing compared to MMLP and Infinite is terrible. Even Em himself hates Infinite. Slim Shady Lp is the only other album with the same caliber as this album
Eminem show is amazing
I agree
He looks like Robert deniro
I loved this era of Em. I grew up on this. I remember having some of his songs from his first 2 albums on burnt CDs. I would record stuff off the radio otherwise. Em was just so cool, unique, wild and skilled! Hilarious too!
Fuck I clicked on this vid real quick! GOAT album
Right on!
You're very correct my friend xd
I’m kind of jealous that 34 year old me doesn’t get to listen to this for the first time instead of 17 year old me
Jeremy Hodges I can relate, but I’m also lucky that I wasn’t able to check out every classic as they happened.
Oyyou I agree man
Oyyou I agree for the most part but I feel like people use that statement as an excuse (not saying u in specific ) for some of his shitty music today . Just because u have classics under ur belt doesn't mean u can deadass drop a garbage album or albums (encore/revival) because all u have to say "I just raised the bar so high in my prime so whatever its okay"
Oyyou Idk WTF he's taking about Criminal is a sick song
Oyyou caterpillar and the chloroseptic remix were amazing so I think he is going in the right direction
Dre is one of the greatest producers ever.. I put him on par with Phil Spector, Rick Ruben, and the RZA
That's def a hof list
Had Taylor not died, I would have loved to see him do a Foo Fighters album. He loved Nirvana so im sure he'd love to work with Dave.
I foresee Eminem Stans coming and blowing up this video. Be prepared for the views this video is gonna get. Do Dre 2001 album you will love it.
yeah. i hope he does diff artist too.
TallMocha .HD as a self proclaimed Stan. 100% correct
TallMocha .HD what is your definition of a "Stan"?
KingOfTheJungle 2 there is only one definition to a stan lol its a fan that dickrides an artist and believes he can do no wrong. It started as eminem fans but over time you can be a stan to different artists
Edwin Reyes the reason I ask is because I've been labeled a "Stan" like hundreds of times since it became a phrase. And I don't fit the description at all.
Robert de Niro, we recognized you! Respect from France, good video :)
You're a great reactor! One of the best, your heart is in it, and you understand music. just pure gems and gold. for me, it felt like you was going live. BIG RESPECT!!!
Yep. That is Xzibit from the lunch truck scene. You may also know him from hosting the show Pimp My Ride
Honestly glad you like Remember Me. That is one of the most slept on tracks from this album period!
I was looking to see if anyone said this.
@@startingQB CRAZY
It was the edited version there's 3
Censored version with no swearing
Edited version columbine is edited out
And the full explicit version
Damn straight, I know alot of people hate on it, but it's my second favorite from this album and in my top 10 em songs of all times
It takes a lot of heart to sit through this entire album. Props to you for that but keep diving deeper into his catalog because it’s quit the journey!
ken kennif was just a character he played on his albums and when he was acting like someone was suckin on Ken he was acting like it was Insane clown posse they didn't like each other
True I thought he was being Cage Kennylz
Just please listen intently when the track is playing?😉
But your assessment of The Way I Am?
Exactly. And then people mindlessly requesting some random rap album not realizing this.
Damn.
I knew Eric Claptons son died...didnt know that was who he was referencing...my name is Eric too so I always loved that bar.
He's also uses the name Erik in white America.
Na I dont think that was it.
@@NarcFreeFormula yes, it was. "Don't blame me when little Eric jumps off of the terrace, you shoulda been watching him, apparently you ain't parents." Who could he have been talking about?
@@JerichoGreen1 wow never heard about that one, you shure? did he and clapton have any personal issues?
Kim is just one of those songs that has so much raw emotion that it’s hard for me to even listen to the song. You should do the Eminem show though, it was one of those albums that originally wasn’t liked by critics and was later deemed one of his masterpieces
You were so spot on when you recognized Xzibit as being the dude battling in the lunch line in 8mile
literally just went to the comments to look for this at 1:19:00
Dr Dre 2001. But you gotta be high when you listen to it.
If you gotta be high, then....

That's amazing, what a legend..
It’s a brilliant album filled with lots of F’d up stuff.
haha, me too.
He raps under 3 persona's
Slim Shady -a character he created as his alter ego that does and says the most offensive things you can think of
Eminem - these are his songs were he is the biggest, baddest rapper or talks about rap game
Marshall - these are his more personal songs. Most of these are in his later albums.
Rambling Rants You forgot Rabbit!
Spinosaurus4ever Rabbits only on the 8 mile soundtrack tho
Rabbit may only be in 8 mile soundtrack, but you are very naive to not think this part of his life influenced him at all!
It's what got him his start 😡
Rapping under several persona's is old news in hip hop. RedMan is one of Eminem's biggest inspirations- one of them. Anyway... RedMan used several persona's bck in the eighties. Alot of rappers do it.
I know. I was responding to what OP was saying about him rapping under different persona's.
It's the best selling rap album in the entire world you should enter the wikipedia of this album, your mind will be blown away
Killstreak that‘s right
2pac's all eyes on me is second after this album eminem n Pac are the biggest selling rap artists
^ All eyes on me is no where close to SSLP, let alone Eminem Show or MMLP. I'm just saying.
OutKast has the best selling rap album but this is close
OutKast only has the highest selling because it's a double album and they count as two per purchase. And even then, I'm not even sure sold more than MMLP.
Most of how well the melodies go together is credit of Dr.Dre
The female singer at Stan, is Dido
I'm From Argentina, so obviously my native language is Spanish.
Eminem = M&M (his initials for Marshall Mathers)
Slim Shady is is "alter ego" according to him. "Will the real Slim Shady please stand up."
Kim is his ex wife.. mother of his daughter Hailey. 😜
You've gotta do The Eminem Show, fantastic album
Couldn't agree more
Luke Trottier his ryhme schemes are crazy when you see them highlighted on paper. I always wondered why his lyrics were so pleasing to the ear. The best is on renegade with jay-z and he keeps the same 5 syllable ryhme scheme going through out the song
Luke Trottier a good example is "Legacy" from mmlp2 where he starts every verse with the same rhyme scheme. Its very difficult to pull that off.
One of the most ridiculous is his verse on Detroit vs Everybody, he goes back and forth with the "Adrian Peterson" and "potato peeler" mutlis. It's insane.
The way I am was produced by eminem and that song the way he flows is my favorite by him every genius
don The Xbox Don Luciano the way he follows the hi hat toa tee is absolutely phenomenal
So refreshing seeing a genuine reaction on youtube, loved it
yo you picked Xzibits voice from 2 min clip in 8mile nice ear

I’ve adored EMINEM since his inception.
I am a 53 year old white lady from
Stone Mountian, Georgia.
If only I had a dollar for all the F’bombs you and EMINEM dropped in this video😁
In my humble opinion, EM talks way to much about s#€kn’ D and other crotch related bars.
LOVE ‘Freak on a Leash’ it’s been on my playlists since I had CD’s. Brian Welch wised up and got saved.
Please listen to ‘Not Afraid’ from EMINEM 2010.

EMINEM is a top ten favorite but…
The Beastie Boys are unmatched in this category, with albums
Check Your Head and
Paul’s Boutique.
(or a 10 year old middle class English guy like I was in 2000)
P.S. Freak on a Leash is a tune
@@sjn6704 IKR!

This is by far one of the most iconic albums in music history let alone hip hop...sounds crazy to say but its true nonetheless...Em made history with this album
You’re right!
Eminem wasn't wrong when he said his music reached suburban white kids. It actually did. It gave them SOME way to rebel.
@@AtomicMama42 reaching suburb white kids was very important
@@IM-hx7jt i wish it was never Considered black music, cause that makes a divide which is totally unnecessary
its not just u.. this album is considered to be one of the greatest albums in hip hop history
