I first learned to fly there in 1972 with Air Navigation and Training Company, which still exists and appeared briefly in your video

Blackpool, eh? I was born there 60 years' ago today 🎂 Escaped after a short while. My first ever flight was round the Tower from EGNH in a Cessna 172 - age 20 months, on my mum's lap. These days, I am simmer 🤪✈

I flew to Blackpool fron Stansted just there and back in a day on Ryanair.
Why would I? Just to tick off the BAe 146 from my list. For a short time Ryanair used the ex Buzz 146s they had taken over.

I’m sorry to report that we had a terrible experience with flying into Blackpool about 3 years ago. Hope they’ve sorted themselves out since …
We had group permission to fly in and overnight as part of the Fly UK tour. The day we were due it was forecast to be quite strong winds that night so we were concerned about tying the aircraft down. I phoned for PPR and yes we had PPR but there were no tie downs. Asked if we could push the aircraft back onto the grass and tie down there only to be told that no we couldn’t, we had to park on the tarmac and there wasn’t any tie downs (or hangarage).
So faced with the real possibility of our aircraft being blown over in the strong winds we went to Barton who had no such issues and even proactively found space in their hangar for our planes.

Party capital? Are you allowed to land in Whitehall?

Blackpool isn’t the party capital. Far from it. It’s a deprived dump where you have the locals that are in a desperate need of evolutionary heavy lifting.
The party capital is London or Brighton. Anyway, as ever, another great video showcasing what GA can do for you by visiting small airports and exploring the local area

Bit strong. Ok maybe not THE party capital but you can have a great time and the locals are some of the friendliest anywhere. Great review Jon, it's certainly whetted my appetite to visit!

If it's the party capital you're after you need to fly 100 mile North East to EGNT 😉

Full ATC? It's ATC or it isn't, i.e. FISO etc.
