Don't Go Chasing Paint Guns!

When I first started painting, I would buy one paint gun after another hoping to get better results. If I saw someone on TH-cam using a particular paint gun and getting great results, I would buy that same gun thinking I'd get the same results. I quickly found out that the paint gun has very little to do with the quality of your paint job. So, don't go chasing paint guns. Buy one, and learn how to use it.

Awsome video Mark. I was thinking of "Bad Chad" before you mentioned his name. He does incredible work. I love his tips on painting, welding and metal fabrication in general. Absolute proof that you do not need expensive equipment to do quality award winning work. Super duty looking great man! Its funny that I've found myself going back and watching a lot of your old building videos because i just enjoy them. Anyway thanks for all you do for all us Zenith freaks out here .

Great video!! Almost all paint guns are fine and will work well. When you say a paint gun wears out, it is usually because the needles become deformed, or the needle seats become deformed. You cannot avoid this but you can extend the life of your guns by never cranking down on the needles and meticulously cleaning every use. Always examine the needles with a magnifying glass when you first get the gun and every time you use it. If the needles are not perfectly smooth and perfectly tapered, they are NG. Some guns use higher quality metals for the needles and seats, but if you overtighten them even slightly, the gun is trashed. Adding a retarder, or using a slow catalyst will help with orange peel but you need a paint area that has little dust, bugs etc. I am a proponent of the new gun for every job philosophy as well.

Needles rarely get bent unless they are mistreated. It’s the internal parts that wear out due to cheap materials.
