Thanks so much for posting this. I arrived in Bristol in August 1980, lived in St Werburghs and worked in R and J's... lived there for another 18 years. The early 80s in Bristol were wonderful.
Bristol, was a fabulous place to grow up during the 80’s. I come from a mixed heritage background so I consider myself very lucky to come from a diverse background. My parents worked very hard to bring up my brothers & sisters, we were lucky to come from a mixed background of British & Jamaican heritage. I no longer live in Bristol, however I always enjoy going back to see my lovely family & friends. So! Here’s to Bristol & all it’s greatness! ❤️
Wow historic footage of the infamous black and white , love st pauls , peoples town , 80% of the populationnare lovely 10% are broken and another 10% are very bad men , but when you bring people into slavery you reap what you so for centuries , bristol built on the enslavement , bristol is one of the best cities on earth ! Its its own country , jah bless bristolmand a
My family moved from Scotland ta St Paul's Irish descent. Never had better memories and love in my live. Docklands youth club was our up bringing. We lived as one. Steve gallacher
I lived in Bristol for a while in the early 80's I loved it. The guys I played with in a sports club were all black and they took me to this cafe one time. (I'm white) We didn't stay long but I wasn't made unwelcome. I remember meeting my friend's mum and not understanding a word she said, her patois was so strong, that was also the day I tried my first mango! I went to a shebeen in St Pauls for a party and had a great time. Bristol was a great place and I hope it still is.
Gwaan Sledgehead wicked upload !! Just sad to see how diluted tings have gone from back in da day when we were unified and as u mentioned b4 the crack phenomenon, which cracked up the community.
1980 Wednesday April 2nd St Pauls stood up for their community not Brixton, but do we get a mention? do we hell. They sent me and this other black girl home from work early on that day, I was 16 , they said "We don't want you to get injured so it's best we send you home early", injured? little did they know what I got up to that night but they sent me home in a taxi and I jumped out on City Road and never got home until late ...memorable
I was in that record shop featured in the video with my mother some 46 years ago. Like the West Indians in the video, my mother was poor in material wealth but rich in spirit. Poor in spirit and rich in wealth, or poor in wealth and rich in spirit? You choose because those Police doing the bidding of the wealthy outside that Magistrates’ Court do not look happy!
@krukus7 yeah back then rasta was the main force in the area i remember being checked by dreads when we did anything wrong that could affect the community .at the time i did not like it much but now looking back they were right .nothing but weed could openly be sold nothing else was allowed . st pauls ...centre of my universe

Black & white got seriously bad, but now things are just as bad in harcliffe, knowledge west and Easton
Where is Knowledge west? Is it close to Knowle west?

One eye is smiling, the other eye is crying.
@missfunkyfunky09 i knew your dad he was a big part of our community and everybody knew him all for the right reasons. st pauls misses you frank
Top footage ☝️💥
Its always some 1 else's fault . If they got a job. Instead of sitting on their backsides . Spongingoff the state . It would be different
Have you watched the other documentaries and the bristol bus boycott..very few would employ black people!!

your right mina road itsn't st pauls but its was part of the reservation
So proud to be Bristolian and these are the people why
this place is rapidly losing its character as outsiders buy it up with their parents money ..becoming as bland as the places they are escaping.
It’s a utter shithole. Sooner it’s all bought up the better
