  • HOW TO SET UP YOUR GROUP -- This video is for my fellow counsellors and psychotherapists about setting up groups in private practice. There are so many different kinds of groups you could run from support groups to psychoeducation to more traditional therapy groups. Many practitioners like the idea of groups, but want to learn how to run groups as well as how to find participants.

This is really useful, thank you. Do you find it okay having new people joining existing groups in terms of building and maintaining a sense of trust?

I frame the ongoing groups as ever-evolving. Every time someone leaves/joins it’s a new group. Departures and arrivals always stir up new things, which is great; the group is encouraged to embrace these as part of the therapeutic work. It means working with loss and change, which are both such fundamental parts of life! I’m glad the video was useful 🙂

Hey Cathy. I’m afraid I don’t run the group anymore. Sorry about that 😕

      Hey Sammie,
I don’t work with therapists setting up groups anymore I’m afraid. I’ve thrown all my energy into the binge eating recovery field now ❤️
