You'll be surprised. If im right (which im normally not.....but I think I am this time) he is actually using medium gauge strings. He does it the same as me, doesn't want something too light because it will break in slap bass, but nothing too heavy because you cant get the nice popping sound properly
I would just like to add, that i went to the fancy band in eugene, i was drunk as fuck on chivas regal, but i was thrown out for smoking weed. less than 5 minutes into the first song, up on the roof again.
My amp has a preset effect called "synthesizer," and it sounds just like his effect. Although, he may not be using an effect. You must remember, he's like the god of bass. Haha
I'm not to sure on this but im thinking he uses a mix of falange and phraser.. ive tried it once and well it sounded close to it, but im not sure thats it cuz well i tried that on a guitar but try it on the bass, and tell me how it sounds cuz i wanna know...yea i dont have pedals but i try them when i can
This is so fucking cool. Honestly Primus is one of the few bands out there that sounds Unique. It doesn't need to be said that Les is awesome and I love all the other instruments thrown in the mix. A fucking Sitar! and a saX! Fuck! FUk! Oh man.
@BreakdownFOEVAH Give them a break, just because they don't understand "Primus Sucks" doesn't make them NOT a true Primus fan. True fans enjoy the art wrought by Primus, you don't have to hang on every single interview or video just to cal yourself a true fan.
I'm just p*ssed with everyone's attempt to make others look like less of a fan to make theirselves look more like a fan. If you enjoy the music that's all that matters... So stop trying to argue on who is a true fan and who is not, it's ridiculous... honestly...
I'm a huge fan of KoRn, do you think I've seen every one of their interviews? No... There was a point at time when the only members I could name were Munky, Fieldy, Hed, and John Davis and I was still able to tell you what song was on what CD and every lyric and breakdown. I'm the same with Primus, I could tell you many of their songs but have I seen their interviews? No. Could I tell you everything about the band? No... But I love Les Claypool and I love Primus.
It is ironic that Claypool would play on Father's Day as he was raised by three lesbian mechanics. It was a hard life for young Les, but they appreciated music and he was able to buy a bass with all the money he made from cleaning the carpets of the three lesbos.
in a bass battle between flea and les i so think les would win beacuse les is creative with his technique while flea jut plays with the smae technique i am not sayin flea sucks or anyhing its just my opinion
Anything he did was awesome, especially bass fishing! He is a GOD when it comes to hooking the bass. You thought he was good on bass, but he is much better catching BASS!!!!!!!!!
Yeah she is playing a Sitar in this song but I have seen the entire gig that this video is from and in a couple of songs she plays a Ukulele and she is terrible at it
Oh Sorry man. Yeah once you have kids you gotta lay off a bit. I think in an interview he said somthing like "I dont wanna not be able to remember my kids growing up" in response to why he doesn't smoke as much anymore. Anyhow I thought you were talking about to old to play. My bad.
After 2 months you can play Les's slap bass in his Primus songs.....Well then you really shouldnt be playing his songs anymore if thats true and you are the next Jesus of Bass and should be signed already!
If you can play any of Les Claypools songs on bass, you shouldnt be wating your time covering him and making up your own music because your the shit at bass! I could only have wet dreams of playing my bass any where near the way Les does!
Visto i Primus due volte Modena e Brescia.... li aspetto con ansia al più presto
One of a kind that's for sure.
That is 100% true my friend....People will make themselves believe anything they want to hear!
That barry sax player is awesome.
Gabby on this track is something I didn’t know I needed
best of friends, we smoke rock together at least once a day.
He's clean now, definitely.
i agree. that pisses me off!
les is awesome! its a shame he isn't coming to ny his 08' tour
my favorite musician of all!
that was just on the one track i think - back off turkey. nice of him to get his kids on the album.
les is using an envelope filter, it's basically an auto-wah. he using alot of compression as well
ah, thank you :D
You'll be surprised. If im right (which im normally not.....but I think I am this time) he is actually using medium gauge strings. He does it the same as me, doesn't want something too light because it will break in slap bass, but nothing too heavy because you cant get the nice popping sound properly
This is one of the best bass solos i have ever seen.
Two Thumbs Up son
Claypool's shadow is killer at 2:56
Been a Primus/Les fan sine 1990/91. If you dig the music you're a true fan - period.
One of the best solos Les ever did, and it even has an error, lol. 3:47 - 5:37
great lineup in this band
Thanks for putting this up! youtube needs more Claypool.
No probs
I would just like to add, that i went to the fancy band in eugene, i was drunk as fuck on chivas regal, but i was thrown out for smoking weed. less than 5 minutes into the first song, up on the roof again.
fancy..
This is groovey man!
Nah, he was trying to tell the crew something
Fine. Walnut, curly maple, padauk, purple heart, ebony and cocobolo, straight from the Carl Thomson website, if you want to get exact about it. Jeez
I saw him at Coachella this year. I was going to leave early and go see The Dead Weather, but Les was w ay too fucking awesome, I couldn't leave
My amp has a preset effect called "synthesizer," and it sounds just like his effect. Although, he may not be using an effect. You must remember, he's like the god of bass. Haha
holy shit this song is fucking catchy, btw she pwnt les with that citar
Then comment retracted
ya, its too bad they are no longer alive....
wow no comments thats bullshit cuz this is such a good song/vid
3 people didn't watch the whole video
On this song i'm pretty sure Mike Dillon's playing a marimba.
@usandthem1
Which affects the fretlessness how?
6 String fretless :^)
Whats the name of the one with the blue hair?
Les Claypool rocks btw \m/
because im curious of the gauge strings he uses to produce his sound
That's the most badass Xylophone player I've ever seen in my life, by the way.
I'm sorry if this has nothing to do with the video. But, Naked Clams is such a sick name!
I'm not to sure on this but im thinking he uses a mix of falange and phraser.. ive tried it once and well it sounded close to it, but im not sure thats it cuz well i tried that on a guitar but try it on the bass, and tell me how it sounds cuz i wanna know...yea i dont have pedals but i try them when i can
go to 3:50
this must be with the flying frog brigade. Les is the man, I'd love to see him work with Tom Waits again.
Technically it has no frets :)
This is so fucking cool.
Honestly Primus is one of the few bands out there that sounds Unique. It doesn't need to be said that Les is awesome and I love all the other instruments thrown in the mix.
A fucking Sitar! and a saX! Fuck! FUk! Oh man.
Going to see claypool again on saturday, i will be in eugene, drunk as fuck on chivas regal and smoking tons of humboldt weed. So Ha.
@BreakdownFOEVAH Give them a break, just because they don't understand "Primus Sucks" doesn't make them NOT a true Primus fan. True fans enjoy the art wrought by Primus, you don't have to hang on every single interview or video just to cal yourself a true fan.
judging at 5:59, is he using rly light gauge bass strings?
4:36 what was his hand hurting haha
I'm just p*ssed with everyone's attempt to make others look like less of a fan to make theirselves look more like a fan. If you enjoy the music that's all that matters... So stop trying to argue on who is a true fan and who is not, it's ridiculous... honestly...
Ah my bad. Yeah wrong bass. His fretless is made of mahogany and a bunch of other wood types all put together, rainbow bass.
You're a good friend of him I assume?
4:05
*dies*
why..? she plays that citar like a fucking champ
Lol, you mentioned "a lot" but you wrote " 'to many people" when it should be " 'too many people." lol, it's the little things in life
@crisco1up
I lol'd hard at this. Very hard.
......I dont copy him and he doesn't copy me...so it really does matter. You're just being picky
don't you mean you do the same as him.
I'm a huge fan of KoRn, do you think I've seen every one of their interviews? No... i dont get it.......
@crisco1up Prove it.
in a bass battle between flea and les i so think les would win beacuse les is creative with his technique while flea jut plays with the smae technique i am not sayin flea sucks or anyhing its just my opinion

What about his age matters at all?
Yeah she is playing a Sitar in this song but I have seen the entire gig that this video is from and in a couple of songs she plays a Ukulele and she is terrible at it
"badass xylophone player"... roflmao....
Being naked is definately fun!
Oh Sorry man. Yeah once you have kids you gotta lay off a bit. I think in an interview he said somthing like "I dont wanna not be able to remember my kids growing up" in response to why he doesn't smoke as much anymore. Anyhow I thought you were talking about to old to play. My bad.
Gabby is brilliant. Just take her ukulele off her and she'll be all good
After 2 months you can play Les's slap bass in his Primus songs.....Well then you really shouldnt be playing his songs anymore if thats true and you are the next Jesus of Bass and should be signed already!
He's too old to party and use drugs, and he has children. I was responding to other comments
I know for a fact that Les Claypool likes to smoke crack. not weed.
3:48 to 5:38 . Take notes.
flea is tight but les is def wayyyyyyy better no offense flea
I can't stand Gabby La La. She always seems out of place and plays some simple sitar riff over and over.
no shit
If you can play any of Les Claypools songs on bass, you shouldnt be wating your time covering him and making up your own music because your the shit at bass! I could only have wet dreams of playing my bass any where near the way Les does!
flea sucks
PRIMUS SUCKS!!
there really is alot of degenerate fucks on youtube nowadays.....
douche
