Kevin Tetz is a legend. When I was younger I would set my alarm clock on Sunday mornings just to watch him on "Trucks". Him Stacey David and the rest of the crew. Thank you Derek for having him on the show. Kevin's passion is infectious!

I really enjoy how you integrate Bentley/family into your work. You don't berate him or talk down to him, you educate him and teach him the easiest, best way to do things. I like how you ask him to do something and give him the info he needs to get the job done, goes a long way for relations between dad and son....you are definitely doing something right! This is by far one of the best videos you've made to date! I enjoyed watching and listening to you and Kevin paint the truck. I haven't seen anything from him, and loved him on Trucks! Kevin is a guy that when he speaks its instantly inspiring. He is so up beat and positive and when he says "You can do this" he is not pulling your chain. You really can do this. Its patience and not being afraid to dig deeper and have confidence in accomplishing the task at hand. Don't be afraid to try . You might just surprise yourself. I can attest to that personally. Thanks for all the inspiration!
I thought about skipping this one. You know what they say about watching paint dry... But Kevin is paint wizard, and a great educator! A true master craftsman at work.
I've got my grandpa's 77' F100 custom here in Huntsville, AL. He bought it new with 25 miles in 78' at Ken Hilton in Birmingham, AL. It's pretty cool our trucks came from the same place. My grandpa's truck still has the factory 302 with the 3 on the tree. Came with .273 rear gear. My dad and uncle used it as a tow rig pulling the drag cars from the 80's to late 90's until we upgraded to an enclosed trailer with a camper. It's like a time capsule, horse torque and tow mods from the late 70's to the early 00's. When it was a tow rig they had a different rear gear swapped into it. I put the original .273 back in and it'll run a nice 100mph at a cool 3,250 rpm 😂. I love these old trucks, we're chevy racers and chevy people with the last name Ford, but these old Fords are awesome 👌.
I've always thought Kevin was a hell of a mechanic/body man. I loved watching him on Trucks back in the day. I'm glad you two have come together and fostered a great friendship.

"Laying down the paint is a reward for good bodywork" - that is incredible advice and exactly the way you need to approach it. When someone really really knows their stuff, the simple one liners are worth their weight in gold.
Alot of knowledge and experience layered in one line. Quotes like that from people who take pride and care in their work, priceless.

I don't think I realized how incredibly intelligent Kevin is until I watched this video. You watch those TV shows he's in and you think he just follows the script, but you know with Derek that's just not his style. Everything you hear is for real and just what people are thinking in the moment. This dude knows so much about body work that I didn't know I didn't know. That don't happen often with car stuff anymore for me, and this guy blows my mind. I know guys that can do show car level paint jobs where you get down and look down the side of the body lines to look for imperfections in daylight and you literally can't see so much as a ripple anyway, and I've done work with those guys. Kevin definitely knows more than them about this stuff. It's that last 1-2% that separates the top level guys in any field from everyone else who's merely very good at the job. Kevin's obviously one of those guys. Mad props to you Kevin. You really know your stuff.
This is absolutely awesome, it was so nice of Kevin to go the extra mile and do the extra special paint job on this truck. Whoever wins this will be a very lucky person indeed! Keep up the excellent work and stay safe!

The truck looks fantastic. They're timeless, but sadly most rusted away like dust in a hurricane. That one's a jewel of a find. Worth all the work you guys are doing for sure.
When I saw the finished truck episode I had no idea you were able to get Kevin to paint for you. What a score! You got the Rembrandt of auto painters.
I am thrilled when I see Bentley and Bradley helping Derek with his projects. He is such a patient and encouraging dad and it is gratifying to see them (especially Bentley) soaking everything in. That’s the real value of these projects - spending time with the next generation and passing along values and life lessons.

I’ve been watching Kevin for years, decades actually, and he never ceases to amaze me. He is brilliant and extremely talented yet makes everything very understandable for the novice.

@@mikenonameneeded3485I don't know if it is the fumes or finding small imperfections/runs/specks in your nearly finished paint job thousand of times, but something seems to gently sand down the layer of sanity over a guy's brain over the years.
@@quixototalisa lot of painters I've worked alongside think they don't need proper ppe. Getting high off the paint, clear coat, acetone, etc fumes will mess you up over the years.
@@-_JayR_- I guess dudes that work on quartz countertops are dying from silicosys. Saw a video where they were getting lung transplants, didn't even know that was a thing. Did more research and basically yeah your lungs are something you really shouldn't play around with.
Which sucks because I am lazy as hell, but you REALLY REALLY don't want to be inhaling all the shit we do....
I'm not a brand guy. I am a truck guy. That old work horse is the pride of the show. You and Kevin should be proud of what was accomplished in such a short period of time.

I just found this channel after I spontaneously bought a 1963 Ford F100 Wrongbed. Lol. I didn't even know about that story. It'll be my first project vehicle that I hope to do mostly by myself. I'm a novice but I've already learned a ton from Derek. My truck needs a lot of work, but I'm going to try and make it similar to this truck in the giveaway. I want something I can drive and use but still be eye catching, just not a show truck. I love Derek's humor and talent and bringing his kids and wife in the videos shows he's a good hearted guy. It's always fun to see the cats make an appearance. I hope this channel will be a good place to get some advice from followers. Derek, I know you're insanely busy, so I won't expect advice but it would be so welcomed. I'm jealous that Lewisburg is only 45 miles to White Castle.

Kevin is great teacher. He tells why things happen, why to do things and not just "do it this way".
I have never been ok with a "because i said so" way of "teaching". I appreciate the people that take the time to explain why something is or why it happens. I want to know those things.

For wheel derek you should do a old steel rim with nice original chrome hub caps. It will fit the whole old Ford work truck look with the classic white steel rims and chrome Ford hub caps.
I bought the paintucation DVDs way back in 2011 time frame. I caught Kevins short seminars at Eastwood whenever I could. Before Vise grip garage I would have said Keven was the most entraining car out there. Now I say he is one of the most entertaining teachers I have ever seen. My hope is after I retire is to go to Kevins updated classes and hit up a couple of days at Ron Covell's school.
I forgot what a pleasure it is to watch and listen to Kevin work. He is excellent at communicating his technique so that the layman can understand and follow along! I am also glad I found his you tube channel, and yes I subscribed! Thanks Derick for doing this mashup of OG’s in the DYI industry! Good stuff buddy!

@@paintucation please do! I can't say enough how you both gave my friends and I the confidence to just try something. My first body work and painting was done on some fenders that I found around my uncle's. I'm no paint pro (far from it unless you count fauxtina) but those lessons of putting in effort towards research and preparation lead to removing fear of failure. This was applied to all of life, not just vehicles. We definitely had lots of failures but they turned into learning experiences. Also, I'm a ford guy (mostly) and I will always love the Rolling Thunder Ranger.

I learned years ago, those who can explain things so all can understand are those who are experts and truly know their craft. Both Derek and Kevin are prime examples (watch the engine rebuild for proof).
Those who make things sound so complicated to impress themselves or someone else are hiding ignorance.
I learned more about body work in less than two hours than I did in my previous 50 years. Very informative.
