You can make it sound even worse in Equalizer by adding a Low-pass filter and lowering the frequency :) Don't go too low though or you'll just go mute. I think around 500hz is a nice starting point.
should probably have included in his tutorial that the regular microphone input is still there, just choose that one. you can switch back and forward between meme mic and regular mic pretty easy

if you're in the US go to goodwill and look for a rockband/dj hero mic. its what i used to use, i got it for $3 and it sounded really good.

what happened to me is in the equalizer configuration menu thing i forgot to switch to the other tab and check marked the wrong thing
It only works when I set the input to it at the same time, and that means I cannot hear any Audio from my laptop at all.
