I am 73 years old and bought my first Laser in 1973, the year I graduated from our US Merchant Marine Academy. This is the most exciting sailing I've done for a long time and certainly appreciate your excitement, "She's a Flier"! Congratulation's.
I am 68 years of age. I own a BMW K1300GT motorcycle. It is very fast capable of 150 mph. I have had it up to 130 mph and for this old man those speeds are pretty exciting. However, I’d say that your small sailboat more than matches the BMW for pure excitement and thrill. The smiles on your faces, the flat wake peeling off aft, the extreme tension and forces on the sails and rigging, all make for what must be a true, true joy ride. Keep pressing. Keep smiling. As I am pretty much locked in my home right now, except for my little rides in the countryside, your videos bring me some good old fashioned vicarious joy. Thank you.
My pal and I have great fun pushing the limits of his Top Hat 25 in Westernport, Australia. In 25 knots we do 6. We think we're going fast : ) What I wouldn't give to be 50 years younger.... Do what this guy is doing. Find a way to live your dream.
Thank you for going to the trouble to speak English! You do so, well! Your sailboat is very fast. It flies on the water. CONGRATULATIONS! I hope you do well in your race!
I have a scow design Barnett Butterfly dinghy. The splashing of your boat really looks like mine as I go through waves. The Butterfly design as I understand it is based on large racing scows used in some of the larger lakes in Wisconsin. Those boats have angled daggerboards on port and starboard and the object is to run the boat close to beam which increases wet length and allows the scow to more easily cut through waves instead of banging into them. Love your boat and your sailing!
My wife and I both laughed when you slept on the hard fiberglass and you said you need to get a proper mattress. Love your videos and your channel Hugo! You are proving that you don’t need a lot of money or possessions to be successful or happy. You were a great first mate on the clipper race, and you are a first rate person.
Well these mine transat with rounded bows made of carbon fibre more likely than glassware plus the fancy sails don't come cheap. Cheap is sailing a small yacht for less the €2000
I used to have an Audi 5000 I thought it flew. Truly, I was wrong. Your new boat could make the passage from Port Angeles, WA to Hilo, Hawaii in 10 days as the rest of us take 19 days for the same run. Wow!
Supernice! Dont eat to much Quine Amands, you are in a very nice area, nearby Douarnenez. I have been on holiday in that area for about 10 years. But sailing not further than Calais. Enjoy! If I come back next year I d love to sail a day with you on youre new boat!. I love the design!.
Could you show us a bit more about that new genoa 3D trimming system the boat has? You see it more and more these day. How does it work. Pros and cons? Is it better then the old genoacars/rails. Nice boat. Very nice sailing!!!
Awesome footage and sailing thanks Hugo ! Great new adventure and partnership sailing a skipping and singing flying fish ! Mesmerising sound ! Hope your friend made the difference in ballast to stop the near pitch pole. Spoon bow to the rescue?? Go well. Stay safe. Q in Sydney Aus’
Hey mate, thanks for the video, looked like super fun. What a great boat. Can't wait for more adventures. The french way of sailing is always balls to the wall, I think we're a little too conservative here down under !!!
Every once in a while you could hear the hull slam down on the upwind and the camera would shake. And that was in flat conditions ! I predict that hull shape will be a disaster upwind in heavy weather. I could even see the hull breaking from the slamming.
The hull slams and sounds loud because it's a race boat so no insulation...etc but the build is strong no worries, these boats cross the atlantic ;) >> th-cam.com/video/Ebv7NcRhY6g/w-d-xo.html
Hey Hugo!, great video, lots of fun. Question: at 10:29 you are trimming, and I see some thin white lines, mostly with a little ball attached. I've seen the same on Imocas. What are they for? Cheers mate!!!
Really impressive boat and sail inventory. Would like to see a womans touch in the cabin too make things a bit more cozy and comfortable for you. So after 2 days out sailing this way we gonna sail that way....lol.
Good job mate! Happy for ya ;) If you will ask me, i don't sail now, I try to make 100% pure carbon stair steps for our team boat ;) hope will make it until end of summer :D
Tant pis! You're hauling, my friend. But what is this? Are you like a test pilot for new naval designs? Is this your own personal boat before personalization? I do not understand. Thanks!
Ça vaut le coup de renvoyer les bottes de ris vers le cockpit sur les minis? Ou le ris de l'amure sera toujours pris au mât ? C'est que ça bouge ces bêtes...
Great fun by the looks of it Hugo, thanks for sharing, two questions, one, after tacking you said get back on the tiller, how often will you be actually hand steering? And two, does your autopilot take wind angle into account (like a windvane might)?
I really think you should be harnessed in all the time @ those speeds & 'that forward bow section your going to be frowen around some , Better to be safe than sorry .

The best episode of full-on high performance sailing based fun I've seen on TH-cam in a long while. Merci !!

Hugo the REAL BOSS!
A crazy little boat for a crazy Frenchman! Looks like half a tonne of fun Hugo, congratulations.
Reminds me of the Ann Ale days to see you on a small boat again! Love to see it.
Congratulations from a young/old 60´s brazilian sailman!
Your smile says volumes. Looks like quite the ride!
Amazing ! I don't know how such a small boat can goes so fast 👍👍👍
Benoit Matton think wind surfers, they go pretty quick, it’s the planing vs displacement, reminds me of flying in a Hobie Cat

Wow this little yacht goes very nicely. Very impressive. 👍

Very nice boat and skipper. Nice video.
You could've let that last section run on forever. WICKED FUN 😀
Good race, for the first start in mini! I saw you progress in les sables's tracker.
Getting ready for the next mini transat..hooo oui . 10 a 12 jour cest a suivre . 🤗
You must be very happy with the new boat! She flies!!!
Wow, efficient boat with 18 knots of wind and 12.7 knots of boat speed, Zowweeee... !And, saw even faster speeds...

Mmm sailing on apparent wind always good, missing being able to race the land yacht in these difficult times
Wow the boat was really flying at the end.
Very exciting! I am sure that a broach will occur at some point. I hope you will include it in the video when it does.
That's the plan! But the scow makes it really really stable
Wow nice surfs. You should do a video about what the Minitransat is about for your viewers (what you are training for, I guess) . Keep up.
Noted!

Is that a planing hull? Could it right itself after a knockdown?
PLanning hull doesn't mean it isn't self righting. This boat is built for offshore racing, so it will come bac up even if inverted
