    Wished it included some crew. Its always very difficult finding appropriate crew after market.

    Finally some 1/32 love for us airplane guys! I just completed HK's 1/32 B-25, I would say the exterior detail has been definitely taken up a notch. Incredible!

    Very nice mid-range kit for those who model 1/32 scale, and want something larger than a fighter but smaller than a massive four-engine bomber.

    Including the nose weights is a nice touch. I've seen this in a couple of other kits, but most don't Many times, the best you can expect is a guide as to how much weight needs to be added.

    What a great looking model. I also spent some time this morning reading up on the original plane. Interesting history. The searchlight variant sounds like a particularly crazy plane.

    Not my normal scale due to size but I'm sold. Gotta have this! I'll find someplace to put the finished model. Maybe the wife won't notice it on the dining room table.

    I would replace the wheels as I prefer the open hubs without the covers, and I think the nose wheel is not indicative of a wartime aircraft, but of the restored airworthy example flying in the states.

    • @billestew7535
      @billestew7535 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Border models have a few 1/35 aircraft if you are interested, but you are correct it has always been puzzling I think it comes from the old days of box scale where a kit was scaled to the box it came in for shipping purposes I think.

    • @wwiiinplastic4712
      @wwiiinplastic4712 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      54mm was the scale plastic toy soldiers used back in the day and were commonly used in wargaming. 1/32 is 54mm for a human figure of 6 feet in height. So, due to this a number of manufacturers began producing 1/32 tanks and planes to go along with the existing soldiers which is why you have the old Aurora and Monogram armor kits of that scale. Armor in 1/35 became a thing almost entirely due to Tamiya and their early line of kits, which were sized to fit the motor and battery setup that made them work. Due to this novelty and flooding the market with them they almost singlehandedly pushed armor into 1/35 where it sits today. Both scales got too well established to eliminate one over the other but that obviously isn't stopping Border from trying again. I myself have way too many 1/32 aircraft to start over but if I had a specific diorama that cried out for a tank AND a plane I might consider it for that situation.
      Box sizes date back a bit further and is why you see all those crazy scales on vintage kits. When models were new it was "Make them to fit the boxes we have on hand. Kids don't give a crap and who cares if they do?"

  • @jr7392
    @jr7392 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looks like a beast, both in size and details, njce!
    I'm not a rivet counter type of guy and as long as it looks close to whatever it's supposed to be it's good enough for me, but doesn't the R2800 have two rows of nine cylinders and not seven?
    You're not going to see much with the cowls closed up I suppose but it's one of those things you can't unsee once seen. I'm sure the resin guys will be along shortly but it seems like something HK should release as a small extra sprue, considering the MSRP of the kit.

    • @suzi_mai
      @suzi_mai ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they were 18 cylinders. Somebody was sleeping when this was made. I can't think of any US 14 cylinder engines at all.

    • @jr7392
      @jr7392 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@suzi_mai Actually, I'm the goof. The A-20 used the R2600, not the 2800 and the 2600 is indeed a 14 cylinder twin-row, so kudos to HK and boo for me!

  • @genek8630
    @genek8630 ปีที่แล้ว

    I understand interiors to certain kits, an AFV you can, for most, take the turret off to see inside. But for this particular aircraft, once you put the fuselage together, how do you see all that interior, you can only see in the cockpit, and if you leave the bomb bay open you can see the bombs. Seems like a waste.

    • @wwiiinplastic4712
      @wwiiinplastic4712 ปีที่แล้ว

      But I know it's in there and that I did it. That's the reason I generally hear. True, you could open up more hatches and such if you were planning a diorama of maintenance or a wreck, but for most people that detail will be lost once buttoned up.
      HKM and Zoukei-Mura don't seem to like only taking it part of the way with their kits. I do appreciate their passion but it is a bit of overkill at times.

  • @broderp
    @broderp ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What happened to the cost of models? This is a $220 kit. I'm betting I'm not alone when I say that the cost of these kits, plus the supplies to make them has removed many hobbyists out of the market altogether. Kits this size need lots of room, so unless you have a lot of space, large model and kits such as this will be far and few in between or as in my case a no go simply because there is no point in spending that much money (it's likely $30 worth of plastic) to just store it or dispose of is not a good value to dollar proposition. This is sad.
