Laryngitis and not being able to counter a steady stream of lies within 60 seconds are not signs of senility or dementia. Neither is walking more carefully than in younger days. I walk more carefully also nowadays and I am neither senile nor demented. Just smart enough to avoid a fall that would be more dangerous at my age.
Biden was fine before the alleged debate and he has been fine afterward. This whole panic and feeding frenzy has been ridiculous. They are foolish to disregard all the primary votes for Biden and try to promote unknowns and unelectables as replacements just a few weeks before the convention. If anything does happen to Biden in the next four years, his very competent Vice President will continue. That's why you choose a good VP. You never know what will happen at any age. If they had stronger candidates, the time to promote them was a year or so ago. Look at history - the debates are not the deciding factor, they are not real-life situations and regular people realize that. 60 seconds to counter a stream of lies from Trump is not a realistic situation. Accepting debunked lies from one participant is not how debates are decided in the real world.
So what, his debate skills suffer against an unethical lie machine. He is 81, not 60. This attitude about age reminds me of the Texas politician who said old folks should be willing to die for the younger generation while arguing against mask during the high point of covid. I wished Lichtman's analysis were publicized more widely and I am glad you gave him adequate time to respond to questions that many people have about Biden's electability. The CNN interview, while effective, was still quite brief.

Lichtman said about his system “You can’t change models on the fly. That is a recipe for disaster.” I understand that. It reminds me of the saying “Don’t change horses in midstream.” You’ll never hear better advice than that. Democrats are doing the right thing by rallying around Biden. Changing candidates during a campaign is a recipe for disaster. Doing so because of one poor debate performance would make it a double disaster.

The story of Nixon in the 1960 debate was he wasn't wearing makeup at all. It was one of his first appearances on TV and he didn't realize how different he'd look on TV. I've heard that if you listened on the radio you'd say Nixon won. But if you watched it you'd say Kennedy won because Nixon looked so awful. He’s not doing ‘both-sides-ism’. How do you watch this show and see anything other than his consistent support for Biden in the race against Trump. And even when he allows that there is an argument for Biden to step down, he himself has obviously not been convinced by it. David does careful, thoughtful discussion of US politics and the media coverage of it. If you think that’s a threat to democracy, and it upsets you to hear it, you should just not watch.

I think Biden was stuned by Trump and kept thinking what a moron the whole debate.
I think Biden thought the rules established for the debate would prevent Trump from just spitting out lies as he does at his rallies. So he was caught off guard by that and certainly there was not enough time to deal with all those lies.
I was surprised that the moderators didn't insist on candidates answering the debate questions. Trump did not, while Biden did answer those questions properly. That needs to change, the minimal requirement should be stick to answering the questions. They let Trump barrel on with his standard list of lies instead. It was not a real debate as a result.
As much as I support Democrats, you can't deny Joe shows some signs of ageing. I don't care if he can do the job for four more years, he just has to beat trump.

Biden's appearance, glad you brought it up. Love this man, he's very capable and he needs to stop running himself ragged for us. Get him a proper haircut, more sleep, exercise (stationary bike, weights and/or swimming), a yoga instructor to help him with stiffness and neuropathy.
