One of my biggest regrets was voting for Trump in 2016. As soon as he became president, I immediately saw that I made a huge mistake. I voted for Biden in 2020 and would have voted for him this year. There is a very strange way that reality sometimes plays out. I have often thought about what would have happened if Hillary would've won. I suspect she would have been a vey controversial and polarizing figure all while Trump would've continued to campaign against her, dogging her constantly all while growing his base of Hillary haters in anticipation of the 2020 election, which she then loses because the pandemic did her no favors either and Trump becomes president. He ends up doing better because the pandemic is beginning to pass. and soon ends. He wins reelection in 2024 and never releases power and the US descends into total fascism and Democracy dies. We had to have Trump in 2016 in order to get us to where we needed to be here now. I know it sounds strange but my mind cant help notice the strange way things seem to work out in our favor but only when you look back at it and realize we achieved more by being forced to face a demon we were trying to avoid altogether.

There's also the fact that Trump was losing so badly in the polls to Hillary and was seen as such a joke of a candidate there was no way he could win, a lot of people didn't even bother voting because they assumed he didn't have a shot to begin with. Now that people understand that being complacent and not voting can lead to a catastrophic outcome, I think people will be way more motivated to vote than they were in 2016.

I will never forget the morning after the 2016 election when I went into work and overheard a few coworkers all saying they couldn’t believe he won and that they wished (too late) that they had voted but didn’t have the time or had something to do, or some other excuse. I was livid. The complacency cannot happen again in this election.

Hilary's problem is she tried to out Trump Donald Trump and it didn't work. She was a problematic candidate that many people did not like. Harris doesn't have the political baggage that Clinton had. Clinton was in politics for a long time and lived in the White House for a long time. That gives a lot of ammunition to dissenting voices. Clinton's voting record was a liability and I was annoyed about Biden's nomination for the same reason. Kamala has a problematic history too but enough time has passed that I believe she has a rebuttal for most of that where she has evolved positions and course corrected to make up for past mistakes. I will say the same thing about Harris as I did about Clinton, focus on policy. Focus on the here and now and focus on the future. She will do fine. With contraception on the table to be regulated or banned, Roe v. Wade getting over turned and these issues have cause Republicans to lose in many states in the midterms, the timing could not possibly be better for a woman president. The rhetoric involving women's rights and healthcare isn't hyperbole anymore.

Hillary Clinton's team was terribly slow in reacting to anything that came out of the trump camp. They never successfully countered any of the crap thrown at her. She actually had a fairly stellar record, not political "baggage". She was known in the Senate as someone who was excellent at bringing both sides of the aisle to an issue. Many R's admired her expertise on many issues. A lot of people, including R's, thought her work as Secretary of State was some of the best work ever done in that office. They should have set rules for the debate. Instead they let the fat orange "stalk" her from behind and talk over her, all while playing to what seemed an unusually large # of his neanderthals in the audience. HRC absolutely destroyed him on substance in that debate. Instead of trumpeting that, they let the trump people write the narrative. I really think they thought she should just play everything close to the vest, to not make the big mistake. The big mistake was letting trump PAINT HER as a bad candidate. There is a very strange way that reality sometimes plays out. I have often thought about what would have happened if Hillary would've won. I suspect she would have been a vey controversial and polarizing figure all while Trump would've continued to campaign against her, dogging her constantly all while growing his base of Hillary haters in anticipation of the 2020 election, which she then loses because the pandemic did her no favors either and Trump becomes president. He ends up doing better because the pandemic is beginning to pass. and soon ends. He wins reelection in 2024 and never releases power and the US descends into total fascism and Democracy dies.
We had to have Trump in 2016 in order to get us to where we needed to be here now. I know it sounds strange but my mind cant help notice the strange way things seem to work out in our favor but only when you look back at it and realize we achieved more by being forced to face a demon we were trying to avoid altogether.

There's also the fact that Trump was losing so badly in the polls to Hillary and was seen as such a joke of a candidate there was no way he could win, a lot of people didn't even bother voting because they assumed he didn't have a shot to begin with. Now that people understand that being complacent and not voting can lead to a catastrophic outcome, I think people will be way more motivated to vote than they were in 2016.
This is so true. I will never forget the morning after the 2016 election when I went into work and overheard a few coworkers all saying they couldn’t believe he won and that they wished (too late) that they had voted but didn’t have the time or had something to do, or some other excuse. I was livid. The complacency cannot happen again in this election.
Also people genuinely thought “let’s give this outsider a chance” or “we need someone to run the govt like a business”. Little did they know they elected the guy who ran his businesses like the govt, racking up debt and always kicking the can down the road until bankruptcy was his best option.
Here’s hoping Kamala learns from the mistakes of 2000 and 2016 when both times someone adjacent to popular and successful incumbents took the electoral map for granted and lost an election they had no business losing despite getting more total votes.

Hilary's problem is she tried to out Trump Donald Trump and it didn't work. She was a problematic candidate that many people did not like. Harris doesn't have the political baggage that Clinton had. Clinton was in politics for a long time and lived in the White House for a long time. That gives a lot of ammunition to dissenting voices. Clinton's voting record was a liability and I was annoyed about Biden's nomination for the same reason. Kamala has a problematic history too but enough time has passed that I believe she has a rebuttal for most of that where she has evolved positions and course corrected to make up for past mistakes.
I will say the same thing about Harris as I did about Clinton, focus on policy. Focus on the here and now and focus on the future. She will do fine. With contraception on the table to be regulated or banned, Roe v. Wade getting over turned and these issues have cause Republicans to lose in many states in the midterms, the timing could not possibly be better for a woman president. The rhetoric involving women's rights and healthcare isn't hyperbole anymore.

Hillary Clinton's team was terribly slow in reacting to anything that came out of the trump camp. They never successfully countered any of the crap thrown at her. She actually had a fairly stellar record, not political "baggage". She was known in the Senate as someone who was excellent at bringing both sides of the aisle to an issue. Many R's admired her expertise on many issues. A lot of people, including R's, thought her work as Secretary of State was some of the best work ever done in that office. They should have set rules for the debate. Instead they let the fat orange "stalk" her from behind and talk over her, all while playing to what seemed an unusually large # of his neanderthals in the audience. HRC absolutely destroyed him on substance in that debate. Instead of trumpeting that, they let the trump people write the narrative. I really think they thought she should just play everything close to the vest, to not make the big mistake. The big mistake was letting trump PAINT HER as a bad candidate. She would have been an excellent president. Stop that false narrative that she was just the wrong candidate. They ran too passive a campaign. She was the right candidate whose people ran a terrible campaign.
