Hey group, This is some footage that was shot at the beginning of summer... save for the intro and ending clips. The more advanced hooks will have to come later, hopefully. Working on a variety of survival vids at the moment, though the winds have been up lately. We will keep them coming from here on out. The goal will be at least one a week. Engineering in earnest the EDC Survival Bracelet now. Expect a rollout by mid December if everything goes well. Thank y'all for watching and sharing these videos. Even more thanks to those folks that helped us through the 9 eye surgeries by donating. Visit our Patreon Page to help support this channel as a few amazing people already do (link in the description). Medical update mid-November after dr checkup. Until Next Time, Bob Hansler
Bob Hansler...well, it's really good to see U keeping up the channel &teaching us survival novices great techniques. Prayers continued for U & all family's of the dead & wounded.
If you haven't started doing this already, I would like to suggest you start writing a small book or three dozen about various bushcrafting skills and your own experiences. You are a wonderful teacher and I would hope that others would enjoy owning and handing down to their kids some good old fashioned hard earned real life knowledge from an honest and experienced outdoors guide like yourself.
Bob Hansler Dont want to be hars or direct.. But the mind can be your best friend. I know its easier set then done but Set to it. I know you can and you will. I hope you understand where im getting at. Good luck
11:25 thank you, I always messed the adding on part, I didn't gather that you had to use the next piece in the middle of the other two. I can't wait to try again
i been messing round the house afew times with rope making i never could get how to combine different pieces of threads without them being big ol knots never thought of doing it that way ive seen vids on it but i dont remember anyone showing it as well as you did here thank you for that love how you explain things well also that hook is awesome id have never thought of that and seeing what youve shown demonstrated is so cool :D thanks for the awesome vid keep em comin keeping yal n my thoughts and prayers
If you really want to help donate to eye research or help out directly. Praying might make you feel good but the best medicine is the one that saves your eye.
Poison Toad - I'm well aware of his need for advanced retina care. I have spoken to my own retinologist about where to go in Texas for the best retina care and I have passed the information on to Bob. I made a $ donation to Bob's Go Fund Me page several months ago. I'm a $25 monthly patron to Bob's Patreon account. I believe in the power of positive thinking, so I make positive comments about his great videos. And, yes, I also pray for the Hansler family because I know that prayer can work. I do these things because Bob Hansler has a unique gift of bushcraft knowledge, natural history and the ability to communicate that knowledge to others. I look forward to watching his videos with my grandkids for years to come.
Another EXCELLENT video Bob. Thank you so much. Your videos are always very easy to follow and descriptive. As a woman trying to learn as much as possible to be able to teach my daughters and grandchildren I am very grateful. I can't really afford to go take a big bush craft class cause the prices for those are pretty steep. I just try to find channels that are creating clear, concise, QUALITY information and you do that extremely well. Better than most really. Thank you for that. You and your family are in my prayers. God Bless you all. ~Lisa
You are one of the big reasons that we are making these videos. My daughter is trying to get a channel going, learning more as she goes. She is a Boy Scout as well, sent her to work a Scout High Adventure camp as staff this past summer. Everything for our kids.
Bob Hansler You said it! Our kids and in my case grand kids are our world! And that is so awesome for your daughter. I bet she had an amazing time. Let us know as soon as she starts making videos. This is one Nannie who will NOT miss an upload! Bless you both! And thank you for making sure your daughter knows how to care for herself! I wish my girls dad would have been able to teach them. They have a pretty tough momma but there's so much of this stuff I just didn't know. Being a single mom for the biggest part of their lives I was so busy working and raising them I just didn't have enough time in a day to learn as much as I'd have liked. Luckily my dad and brother taught them a lot. We also went hunting, camping and fishing a lot and still do. We make it a habit to go to the range together at least once a month too. They also married good men and for that I'm extremely grateful! Again thank you, your wife and family for working so hard through your own trials to still make great information available. It REALLY is a blessing to so many. Please take care of yourself. God Bless!
I did what I would call “primitive” fishing when I was young. But it was far less self sufficient than what you did in this video. I also used cane. We made frog gigs and fishing poles. For line and hooks we usually found discarded stuff. Good job on the video!
Excellent video Bob!!! You are looking pretty well and recovered. You are still in my prayers. Keep it up!! I'm sure you'll get through this my friend with such a possitive attitude which is THE BEST medicine!!
This was in May - June, the month long period where the oil had been taken out of. The eye... right before it began to detach again. Two more surgeries later and the oil is there to stay. Can't see much, but it is enough to get around somewhat.
pisuarez If you really want to help donate to eye research or help out directly. A positive attitude is great and praying might make you feel good, but the best medicine is the one that saves your eye.
I wanted to add, if you are able in anyway PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE to donate anything at all every penny helps and I know BOB and his beateful wife appreciate any and everything thing. if you are able to just stop for a moment and say a prayer for Bob and his family .
That is so cool. I never considered using those thorns as fishing hooks. Those thorns are razor sharp so be extra careful not to get ragged by one. I really enjoy the different fishing and survival videos you do. I really hope your vision gets better soon. It’s still inspiring to see you still doing videos.
Great "survival" info, Bob & as always, good to see you "Back in the saddle" and making videos for us. You have so many survival skills to share with us! Again, thank you Bob!
Have you thought about writing a survival book? It's very hard to find a really good read in the area of survival. Most "authors" simply tell the "what." What to eat. What to catch. What plants to prepare. But you actually go into depth on the "how!" Which is what most survival books I have read are lacking in. Just an idea I thought might be of interest to you. Thanks for all the great videos and for teaching us all you know. God bless you and your family!
...........Thank you for this adventure......as all your videos are.....but this one sparked memories of me as a kid fishing cane poles and hand lines and corks to catch perch ( bream ) , crappie and whatever from the banks of the lakes in Central Texas. Those cane pole days were just as fun as later life when graphite rods and fancy reels became the norm.....but I passed it down the line and started my daughters off on cane poles too..........Great memories.....many thanks and may God bless your home and family................
Gtrw up on those cane poles as well. Went looking for them to fish with my daughters and could only find over the top pricing for them. Cane is a fad I wouldn't mind seeing return.
this guy is really cool man! i love people like this! you just barely find them anymore in person :( this project and using what i made would actually make fishing for fun or keeps more fun for me! just..... like i said.... hard to find people who are down to do this type of thing
**impressed** GREAT video! And as I live in Southern AZ, I'm hoping to put at least part of this into practice come Spring-- there's plenty of agave and yucca out here, I promise you! I've made cordage out of a number of plant fibers and it's interesting just what works; some of the really horrible long, skinny-leaved agave varieties seem to make really fantastic fibers once you cut every damn hooky thorn off (they will *rip* your hands to absolute pieces if you don't.) I had the chance to spend an afternoon in some of the local Tohono O'odham tribal lands that had once been inhabited and were now no longer under cultivation, and you could clearly see the places where they had grown the really huge agave at; the original plants had, of course, long since propagated in their circular seeding fashion and died out generations back-- but the rows of stones that had been placed to channel runoff from Monsoon Season rains were still clearly visible. They still worked, too-- the current agave were HUGE, easily six to eight feet across in some cases.
I forgot how mush I love survival and bushcraft! I’m glad I found this channel. Oh, and if someone in the Midwest wants to try this, mulberry bark makes excellent cordage. I only really tend to see it near farms and roads though. I’ll have to do more fishing and start hunting next summer...
U da man! I’ll be waiting. I’ve been fishing since Spring. I’m on the Columbia so I’m afraid my catch and cook will lead to a third eye. But for me it’s the excitement of a fish on the line and a refuge from work. Will you do more gar vids?
bob , thank you for all the great videos you make they are truly impressive and I enjoy them very much . you are very good at what you teach . absolutely amazing!! but most of all thank you for being such a great inspiration to us all. you are truly a blessed man. you will continue to be in my prayers you and your lovely wife. you are a very strong man to go through what you're going through and be as positive as you are and not giving up on nothing to continue on doing what you do is very inspirational and touching. stay strong my friend, God has a plan for you. you have to remember that even when you feel you're down that's what the good Lord has intended for you so you keep your head high just as you have been doing so far. If the world had more people like you in it it'll be a much better place today. God bless you and you will stay in my prayers.
Well done. Your putting the hook, cordage, & bobber all in one reasonable length vid is an awesome job. Please keep up the good work. stay safe keep warm have fun & whittle to keep you sanity ol greybeard dino ; - )>>

Hello Bob, this is an excellent video. I live in Southern California, I have seen Agave plants here and a cane as well. However, the yucca we have here are not the Spanish type that you have in Texas they are a short leaf verity, the leaf is about 18 to 24 inches long. That unidentified fish is a juvenile common carp. The sucker mouth, barbel, scaleless head, and scaled body all point towards it. Cool catch!
Very good Bob. Your wife does an excellent job filming.

Thank you Bob! I appreciate you so much and have you in prayer as well.

Love you Bob. Teach the girls the intricate hooks and and share with us.

Bob Handler, thank you for sharing primitive fishing survival.. Love you TH-cam V/blog only thing I don't eat craw fish is a mud fish.
Amazing video Bob
Thanks for sharing

brilliant, super primitive and effective, no knife required :)
Miss you Bob.
Well done young man.

The fish you caught was a Carp. Good job!
wow. great video
rio grande perch for anyone wondering they get alot larger catch em here in hill country all the time great eating
Scuba into a school of them once, all dinner plate size. Dreaming of building a few stock ponds and having them in there alone to feed up.
theyre great in lake travis you sight fish for them with worms or a spoon great eating
I hope he is felling better
Great demonstration!....
Hello Bob, this is an excellent video. I live in Southern California, I have seen Agave plants here and a cane as well. However, the yucca we have here are not the Spanish type that you have in Texas they are a short leaf verity, the leaf is about 18 to 24 inches long. I will cut a few of those leaves and see if I can process them down to make the cordage. Again an excellent video, thank you.
Messing with some smaller yucca now as well. It'll work.
Very useful, thanks
I think it would be a good idea to soak the individual strands before you even braid them. It allows the fibers to expand and clean out the chemicals. In addition to that when the rope dries the cordage will shrink and become tighter knit.
That big silver fish looked like a really big shiner.
Incredible
Hey Bob, I'm late to the party, but I think your catch of the day was a carp :) usually they go for breaded hooks with some sweets
Never know what comes up from floods. Thanks.
Wow, you replied! Been praying for your family. I'm from San Antonio as well, although my family just moved
