This looks like the most practical way for my mother to fish. She had a stroke and is paralyzed on one side, I just haven't seen handicapped fishing gear that works for a person who essentially is just moving their eyes, talking and happy to be there.

I agree, to catch rabbits this setup at the start would be a great way to improvise to set up a spring up snare if there isn't any Saplings at hand to tie your snare to. Your comment made me think of this which I feel is awesome because then you can set up a snare for rabbits anywhere with just some wood at lengths of 9 feet & another at 2 feet as this tutorial has used.
I said it before but this is the best channel on TH-cam. Delivery and pace of the video is the best and the closeups of the knots.... outstanding.
Well designed trap, if you don't know your knots it's quite daunting. I 've used this trap, it works great, but a line attached to a brick/rock, stick, thick grass/ foiliage, baited and thrown into a good spot will do the same job and is a more realistic way that will save your energy and time in a survival situation. Not all areas are blessed with wood. But I love your videos. 10/10 .

Started getting confused at the loop part of the lash, then realized I just did that exact thing to make a paracord handle for my ferro rod like 2 days ago lol

A few years back I made a similar video ;I couldn't catch any fish because like you ,I was explaining to the viewers, how to build this trap;well, what happened was, that since i said it our loud, some fish was listening to what i was saying and before i knew, the whole pond became aware of my evil intentions!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

When you are pounding the stakes into the ground. If the ground is hard wet it down just a little bit. You will be able to drive the stake in farther. Pack it back around the poles with your foot. Easier to drive the first stake down.
I have seen and tried a few spring pole set up and I have to say this is the most difficult looking one I have seen, for a novice in an emergency situation I don't think this is the one for them to use, for the more experienced that gets out and practices often I think this one can be used and mastered and will probably work a little better.

That's a great set up. I use a L7 trigger. You can also use this setup as a trigger for deadfalls (on its side) ,snares, and bird net traps.

I carry a couple of fishing yo yos in my kit they work great for fishing but also can be used for quicker set up of more common traps. But this traps is also great to know if my mechanical monstrosities break. So thanks for the information man. As always outstanding job.

This looks great if you have to set the hook, but a trout will swallow the whole thing. No need for a "trap". I use between 6 and 9 feet of a good powerful line, the smallest hooks and bait them with worms. I attach them to a springy branches with a small aluminum carabiner. With 10+ hooks out and you'll get plenty of fish. It works fine, keep it simple and increase your chance with as many hooks as possible. I did it with some kids the other day. 5 hooks out, 30 min later we returned and got 2.

Love the idea. I have caught fish with my bare hands, but never would have thought of using a trapping type technique on fish. My only problem is that this is not something that I will get a chance to practice. And those knots are not something that I will remember, over time. So I have created a 'Watch Again' playlist, and stuck it on there.
Just for info my 'watch later' and 'favourites' are full of pages of stuff and music respectively. So I would not want to loose this in the clutter. For anyone who has not created their own playlists, the easy way is to use the icon below this video, just to the right of the 'SHARE' icon. It looks like lines of text with a "+" symbol. Love and hate all the specific knots in the video. I have GOT to start learning more knots. I have learned a few but always end up forgetting them. I generally just start tying and what happens happens lol.

Hi : ) love your instructional videos! I am making notes and after you demonstrated how to tie a jam knot you moved on (at 8:22) to other aspects and never showed how you attached that knot to the top of the spring pole.
I am wondering: Do you slip the very end loop over the top of the spring pole, or does the centre of the slip knot go over the end of the spring pole, and that is tightened in the recess? How does it attach?! You skipped that part!

There is a gentleman earlier in the comments that requested a video on how to clean and cook the fish, and I'd very much like to see that as well.
Perhaps you could begin that video where this one ends and pull your fish from your trap.

very cool device, the whole cordage issue with attaching both poles together seemed to be an overkill. I am really impressed with your skill and I do agree the more traps you put out the better off you will be.

You can get anything to bite if you have the right bait. I catch bull 🐸 with a piece of red yarn or a small fly
